Thoughts from watching yesterday's win

Jim in Forest Hills : 10/3/2022 10:51 am
Saquon looks like the best player in most games right now. He looks like the potent weapon we all hoped he'd be. Power, speed, agility, leadership, its awesome to watch.

Jones is being used correctly, Daboll has concluded that Jones needs to use his legs, alot. Combo of skillset and OL/WR woes help push this but I dont see Jones not running, its just too effective. He just sucks at taking hits, I expect he'll miss time every season. IF they keep him and thats a huge IF they have to draft a comparable backup.

Watching Aaron Rodgers yesterday he has no qualms throwing into tightly covered receivers. He trusts his arm and he trusts his wrs. I dont think Jones trusts his WRs at all. If they are in tight coverage he hesitates and you see him back pedal trying to wait to see someone more open. I think this is the "Judge" effect. Jones was coached not to make the INT. I dont think he can truly be QB1 until he gets past this, this is where I think he's broken.

Forgot how pretty Jones' deep ball is, if only Slayton could catch. That was thrown in high winds too. His play action was also top class.

So enjoyed watching Taylor's escapability before that unfortunate hit. He is just awesome at shaking people.

I think Brieda will break one soon.

Loved the wildcat and Daboll taking the offense together on the sideline. I know Kafka is the OC but that was a coach doing what was needed. A little like Belicheck taking the defense.

I hope Aaron Robinson is ok, he is playing better than his preseason mishaps (Do they not have to draft a CB rd 1 next year?). Adoree is playing at a high level and a big part of this defense. X looks like a probowler this year.

Ojulari looked very good. I thought he and KT both looked much better this week. KT is always drawing deep breaths, I wonder if his conditioning is still working in. If the Giants want to have a shot at beating the better teams, these two have to really produce.

I have always seen other teams exploit our backups, ESPECIALLY OL backups. It was so rewarding to see Dex completely obliterate the backup OG that went in. He was a monster this game. If the two ERs can make the QB step up, his numbers will pop.

Was shocked to see Gano miss one, he is so clutch but get that miss out now in a win!

I think the Giants likely lose the next two but want to see them with a chance to win both games in the 4thQ. Hopefully Toney and Wandale can come back and reinforce the WR corps. Want to see this offense close to full strength.

Some solid points. You mention Wandale/Toney. Let's see how Jones does if/when they come back and if he gets a little more willing. I just watch the games and the replays shown on TV. I suspect part of Jones hesitation is a little more warranted but one certainly to consider. BD has said he wants him to let it rip as Garrett did.
Good points Jim.

In respect to your comments about Rodgers and Jones not having the confidence, I agree. He fired one in yesterday to Hudson. Tight window, speedball right between the numbers and Hudson drops it. I don't fault Jones for not trusting his receivers, but keep making the throws. The more he runs the more he likely he's going to miss significant time.
On go routes as you know

The receiver MUST stutter step (to look like like a crossing pattern or post) before releasing. This stops the corner from turning and running for that brief second and maybe just as important it freezes the deep safety from releasing early to help the corner. If you watch Slayton he just took off) ending up with double coverage and an int. A veteran should help his QB on this
When a team is limited and full of holes in terms of talent

their margin for error is going to be a constant in games, even against other teams of similar caliber. Jones falls in this category as well, as evidenced by pass plays where it's clear he's not seeing the whole route combo or hesitating on pulling the trigger for a few reasons, eg receiver talent, lacking confidence, worried about forcing a pass and creating a turnover, etc.

Coaching staff is doing a tremendous job, and players are buying in and it's delivering results. Right now, injuries are making their jobs ever tougher, it's reducing depth as well as impacting starter talent.
Rodgers threw a pick 6 yesterday

looked like receiver didn't come out of his route correctly.

Jones sucks a taking hits??? The guy was unblocked and he's trying to escape, gets pulled down from behind with defender coming down on his ankle/foot. Really not much a player can do to avoid that.
first the receivers can't catch

Did you see the pass to the tight end #88 on the sideline. You can't make that throw any tighter and it hit 88 between the 8's and he dropped it.

Either you hall have a terrible memory or fail to give him credit, he makes very tight throws and even on the run. The receivers just don't catch it. These guys are camp fodder.

I thought the fakes to SB that led to bootlegs were very Rodgers eques. He even faked the camera man.

On the flip side he throws it into super tight coverage over and over again and they get picked. You all would be complaining about that.

They have to earn his trust. He can't throw it and run down there and catch it too.

Obviously Richie James has earned his trust.

The balls are there and they get dropped. Were all the balls he threw yesterday catchable? I believe there was one or 2 that were off target.
I put the Gano miss on

the snapper.

That snap was low and it should not happen

I don't trust them either
Instead of calling them receivers maybe we should just call

Them downfield blockers.

Which is just about all they are capable of, and even this only sometimes.

LOL - I like it. Fox should show the starters graphic with a QB, RB, OL, TE, and 2 DF (downfield blockers).
The point of Rodgers and Jones

Is way off the mark. You have the arm, the receiver, looking off receiver, release, recognition and I'm sure a lot of others.

It's not even close to "Joe Judge."

The Op is looking for an excuse that just isn't there.
