I believe this is the best horror movie to come out in the last 10-15 years. I’m a huge horror fanatic, and the atmosphere alone in this movie is unsettling.

I'd say best horror films the past 10-15 years are:
Hereditary
It Follows
The Witch
Under the Skin
Midsommar
Ôdishon AKA Audition [1999] by Takashi Miike
Re-Animator [1985] by Stuart Gordon
Hellraiser [1987] by Clive Barker
Dawn of the Dead [1978] by George A. Romero
Tsumetai nettaigyo AKA Cold Fish [2010] by Sion Sono
The Return of the Living Dead [1985] by Dan O'Bannon
Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn [1987] by Sam Raimi
Suspiria [1977] by Dario Argento
The Wicker Man [1973] by Robin Hardy
Zombie AKA Zombi 2 AKA Zombie Flesh Eaters [1979] by Lucio Fulci
Rosemary's Baby [1968] by Roman Polanski
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre [1974] by Tobe Hooper
La maschera del demonio AKA Black Sunday [1960] by Mario Bava
Martyrs [2008] by Pascal Laugier
À l'intérieur AKA Inside [2007] by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury
28 Days Later... [2002] by Danny Boyle
Shaun of the Dead [2004] by Edgar Wright
Based on previous threads I'm guessing it's in your wheelhouse but also based on previous threads I'm sure you've seen it already. A24 just put out Pearl but it wasn't exactly a horror movie. At least not like X was. I think there's a very good chance Mia Goth gets an Oscar nod tho, awesome performance.
I can't believe Hereditary made this list like 5x, I think its a terrible movie, just awful, nothing scary about it and the plot was dumb...but to each his own I guess.
My list:
The Descent
The Thing (the original and the prequal)
IT (Part 1 and Part 2) - The new one
Aliens - maybe qualifies as action horror, dunno
It Follows
In addition to the above, I'm partial to some of the Korean films, specifically for this list: "The Host." It is kind of startling because it doesn't stick to a single genre. One minute it's a family drama, one minute it's a monster movie... I really like that.
"Parasite" isn't exactly a horror film but it also mixes genres that way. Comedy, satire, thriller...
I’ve seen all the movies above and I think Sinister works better as a pure creepy horror movie with no real gore. Good original premise. Better than hereditary, babadook and a bunch of those.

of course i would, it's a classic.. but there are so many i could include. this was a selection of films that are perhaps less well known, some of them.
The Exorcist
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
The Beyond
Twitch of the Death Nerve
The Entity
The Omen
Don't Look Now
Tenebrae
The Shining
Funny Games
Them
There is a list of 11, every bit as classic as the first list. So many great horror films.
Sorry, I read your post as "the list" rather than "a list" as you actually said. Thanks for posting all those. I have to get around to some of them I haven't seen. Problem is my wife hates horror movies...

we liked it. Its more of a psych thriller than horror though.
I like the Watcher, pretty solid psych thriller.
Nope was definitely watchable and I thought it was better than Peele's last outing, but apparently, it's one that was really important to see in theaters with the way it was shot, and could see why (the absolute vastness of the terrain, spliced in with shots of the claustrophobia of the "belly")

I'd say best horror films the past 10-15 years are:
Hereditary
It Follows
The Witch
Under the Skin
Midsommar
I've read about Hereditary and I just don't think I want to experience that at all. Seems legitimately unsettling.
Also, tolerance for gore and mature themes?

great flick
Also, tolerance for gore and mature themes?
Anything goes on the themes. Wife prefers something new-ish (last 5 years or so).

I'm something of a horror film expert though I am more of a fan of older horror films and what one would call cult horror.

Hereditary
Still my favorite, rewatch it every year around this time
We recently watched A Quiet Place, found it pretty gripping and better than I expected
She wants to watch “Watcher” now - anyone see it?
Get Out
Us
Loved both of them... going to stream "Nope" as soon as its available to rent

I haven't seen it but it seems decent.
I recommend the series Black Bird. Quite good.
The Conjuring as well.

Midsommar
Get Out
The Babadook
Also not bad:
The Invisible Man
A Quiet Place
Host
NOOOOO!!! Don't tell me... Is he... Is he going to kneel again.... AGAAAAAAIIIINNNN.... ARGH...
It's on paramount plus. That's the answer.

oh no worries.. let me know how you enjoy them..
The Witch is wonderful. What Robert Eggers accomplishes on a tiny budget recreating 17th century rural New England is amazing.
I don't believe this for a second....
Nope - ( New Window )
Also on my list:
The Exorcist
Orphan
The Fear Street series on Netflix (3 of them in different times)
I like the Watcher, pretty solid psych thriller.
