An accomplished third linebacker for a defensive system in which the Buffalo Bills use only two around 90% of the time proved to be too much of a luxury going forward when the team released A.J. Klein on Tuesday.
Klein, 30, was due a base salary of $4.2 million and had a total salary cap hit of $5.5 million. The move cleared $5.1 million of cap space for the Bills, who started the day around $6.5 million over the cap, according to general manager Brandon Beane in a radio interview on WGR 550.
The NFL on Monday determined the 2022 cap to be $208.2 million.
Klein was not just the third linebacker, however. He played all the spots, filling in for starters Matt Milano and Tremaine Edmunds when they weren't available. In his two seasons with the Bills after coming over from the New Orleans Saints, Klein produced 110 tackles, including nine for losses, to go with 5.0 sacks, an interception and two forced fumbles in 31 games (15 starts).
With this many injuries you have to circle the wagons.
thanks for the info! what a fool, here's a team probably willing to actually sign his mediocre ass off the couch... and he's being stubborn about with where he plays.

The #Giants are signing free agent linebacker A.J. Klein, per source. Long-time NFL starter has had several suitors but reunites with GM Joe Schoen and HC Brian Daboll from Buffalo days. Most likely starts on P-squad with quick call-up.
or is this just rehashing old news from his Redskin and Giant days?
In other words, are you hearing this currently?
I keep seeing this in this thread, but I havent seen a link to a reliable source. Perhaps this is true, but for all we know, he could be a shot player and failed the audition. I find it hard to believe that a guy who is out of work would be offered work and turn it down because he isnt happy about the position offered, at least not unless he has other options
LB A.J. KLEIN
Klein saw his role decrease significantly in 2021 with the Bills due to a combination of a healthy Matt Milano and disappointing play in his first year with the team (2020). The 30-year-old linebacker posted a 46.4 PFF grade across 692 snaps in 2020 — which featured a bottom-three 29.7 run defense grade — and then followed it up with a 48.9 overall mark across 299 snaps in 2021. Klein fits best as a backup in a blitz-heavy scheme, but asking him to even serve in that limited role is a risky bet to make. He has earned a sub-50.0 PFF grade in five of his last six seasons with three different teams.

I can't imagine that this info is both current AND relevant.
Think about it. If the Giants knew that Collins had previously suggested that he didn't want to play LB... AND the Giants only wanted Collins as a LB, the two parties would have hashed that out on the phone (or through Collins' agent) BEFORE Collins came in for a visit.
Do they cut Calitro now?

Dude is out of the league right now. He's not too smart in regards to this.
...which takes the Giants down to ~3M in Cap Space for the rest of the season already. Yikes.

da gettlegod
Not paying for a full year. 1/18th of vet minimum per week, and can be released any time I think. Or sent down to PS, with max $19,400 per week.

Not far away from being a very productive player for the Bills. Cap casualty this season. Lets see how much meat he has on the tires.
That is quite the mixed metaphor.
Yogi Berra and Ralph Kiner would've been proud. *grin*
Meat in the bone. Tread on the tires. Whatever!

Lol. I believe the phrase is "kick the meats?"

To be fair, Washington fans think everyone on their team stinks.

Ha! When someone leaves a putt short..."Little tread left on that bone!"
That is one skill I would never question Jerry Reese about.
He always seemed to know right before a player would break down.

I’m not a football nerd but isn’t that impressive for one game if highlights to be in so many plays ?

the fact that they only added him now and not even for camp would lead me to believe he's a very limited player at this point.
