I realize there is a game tonight, but the top five QBR producers this week so far are:
5. Cooper Rush 75
4. Pat Mahomes 90.5
3. Justin Herbert 90.6
2. Geno Smith 91.3
1. Daniel Jones 92.3
Now, I wouldn't have graded Jones that high, but this is a good example of why QBR is a better measurement than other metrics like Passer Rating.
In the case of Jones, he is getting credit for his running contributions, avoiding big losses, not turning the ball over, and having to deal with a poor receiving corp. And in the context of the game, it's certainly deserved.

I always try to be fair and balanced. You know that... ;)
I was nervous about posting this out of fear of John running into Schoen's office and demanding a new contract right for Jones right now.

Don't you mean running into Chris Mara's office, Shadow GM...
I hadn't done a Chris reference since the season started so bear with me. I was in a bit of a withdrawal :-)
Keeping it simple, QBR is a two-prong approach. A human element and a formula element. There are actual multiple analysts watching each game and grading each play by the QB. And then those results/variables are weighted to determine the overall score of the QB's performance.
Passer Rating, on the other hand, is simply a formula where you plug the QB's final statistics and get a final result. It does not have any context.
Haha that’s a great point
The QBR approach works this way for something like that:
The QB makes a good pass to the below average WR who drops it. Therefore, the QB still gets credit for making an accurate pass.
If the QB is looking for an open WR, but no one is open, the QB doesn't get penalized for either running, throwing the ball away, avoiding a sack, etc. If there is an interception, that QB would get penalized for forcing a throw not there...

If a QB never throws a pass longer than 5 yards or never throws a TD, just blame his receivers and call him the best QB that week? Got it.
LG - I have reconnected with Matt in 'Cuse and he's working on something... ;)
BTW, when is the last time you spoke with Rob C?
Matt in Syracuse is the BBi equivalent of classic MTV

How dare he win the football game which allows you to bitch more., Got it.
Chiefs - 5th
Chargers - 7th
Seahawks - 11th
Giants - 22nd
4 games is too small of a sample size to make much of QBR.
