Scheme question..use of TE's

1st and 10 : 10/4/2022 8:17 am
This is a question for those with more X and O knowledge than me.

Considering that our WR's are one of the worst in the league, would moving to a formation of 3 TE's, 1 WR, Barkley provide any advantage over our current setup?

I know we don't have many good pass catchers at TE, but they are good at blocking and supporting the run. Maybe signing the big TE form the PS (the 6'6 guy??) would help in giving a big target.

The idea here is to support the run more as our OL is a good running OL group.
We run that scheme a lot anyway

The problem is unless you have a seam stretching matchup nightmare teams will just go 8 and 9 in the box which hurts running game
Would this scheme be a fit

with someone with the skill set of Wandale R?
Giants ran several 3 TE formations

against the Bears. I expect to see more of that against Green Bay.

As for WanDale Robinson, I have no idea what scheme will suit his talents best, especially since we hardly have seen him play during the exhibition season and through a quarter of the regular season.

Also, he's just one player, and an unproven one at that, so I don't think the Giants are re-thinking offensive play formations in keeping with how to maximize WanDale's skill set. So far, he hasn't proven he deserves that sort of attention.
3 TEs is not a scheme.

It's a personnel grouping.
They are playing to strengths

Which is running the ball and using multiple blockers to achieve that goal. On those bootlegs you had tight ends wide open several times.

You also had tight ends blocking down field on Jones‘s touchdown run

Trust the coaching staff to put the team in a position to have success despite a bad pass blocking line and despite a very depleted wide receivers group.
Multiple TE sets

are considered a running formation, but I question whether it is a better than lets say 10 personnel statisically.

Having said their, our WR room, or more like WR broom closet James Richie led aerial assault is beyond pathetic, so its worthwhile to go to multiple TE and/or RB sets to get the least worst talent out there.

And Wandale is a slot and not ideal for a 1 WR formation, I would prefer a big X receiver not named Golladay.
Didn't the Patriots run 3 TE sets

quite a bit under Belichick a few years ago? I think Brady had some success with that group (though any formation with a healthy Gronk is going to get yards back then).

One twist I would do is use Ezeudu as a TE, another on the line, and one in motion (to give an "unbalanced" line look). So the line would be Thomas, G, C, G, Neal, Ezeudu, TE.
