Graham needs a tackler in the triangle up front in his four man fronts, point and deploy downhill, and Wink was probably being tough on or dismissing him as the knee heals up.
Is that his system is very, very sound and structured.
You are either a Wink-type player or not.
If you hadn't had exposure to him, you probably don't know until you see his defensive plays or spend a mini-camp with him.
So, giving the benefit of the doubt to Martinez....you are probably right. He didn't know he wasn't a Wink-type guy until he was exposed to the Wink System....which seems to value linebackers who can move sideline to sideline.
a couple of the reporters insist it was Martinez who didn't want to be here and not the other way around. Take that for what it is worth.
Always thought that was the most logical explanation. We renegotiated him instead of releasing him and he made the final 53, correct,? Pretty much says they wanted him. Then he took a day off and came back and wanted out. Seemed like his initiative.
From what I have heard Blake and Wink did not get along all that well. I think he would have been a great scheme fit, it seems like just a personality mismatch.
Regarding the restructure, that was only a few weeks after Wink was hired and the new staff come on so I'm sure no one really saw this coming until much later on in camp.
I am not surprised that he ends up with Graham again - I was actually waiting for that to happen.
Would have been nice to know before getting his contract restructured.

That's not an accurate assessment of his play. He was very good and 2nd in the NFL in TFLs for inside linebackers
