The Improvement of having Bellinger over EE

Now Mike in MD : 10/4/2022 12:13 pm
Below is a link to Skinner's OL report. It's obviously about the OL, but watch Bellinger. I'm not saying Bellinger is Howard Cross, but I didn't see him get beat once on any of the critqued plays. The difference between him and EE as a run blocker is night and day. And while the improvement in the run game is due to a lot of factors and not just Bellinger. The upgrade over EE is certainly helping.

And he's just a rookie! With expected improvement, he can be the first complete TE we've had in a verrrryyyy long time.

on those two running TD's by DJ, we are in so much better shape at that position.
A TE that can block!

What a concept!

TEs may be very important in the London game. Hudson should be

Effective as the “move” TE, if he can hang on to the ball.
Packers will pack the box. To win this game, Barkley has to get more touches as a receiver. He is the only real weapon they have. I can see 2 RBs with a shift so that Barkley works out of the slot.
It's a plus

to finally have dependable TEs.
Addition by subtraction

a TE who can block, get a sneak 1st down/TD and move the chains is a force multiplier, especially when compared to EE.
Huge upgrade

I used to hold my breath every time EE was targeted or had the ball.
EE was also good for

about 5 interceptions a year on passes he bobbled into the defense's arms.
Engram had worn out his welcome and more.

The very idea the prior regime didn’t move him when offers came in over the last 2 years is astonishing. Brain dead.
EE leaving alone

may have been the biggest addition by subtraction ever. Bellinger's blocking and receiving is addition on top of the EE addition by subtraction, which = significant.
EE was just one of those rare guys

who's very physically talented, but who routinely caused bad things to happen when coaches felt compelled to involve him in the game.
Engram

13 catches 99 yards no touchdowns. Horrendous.
Blocking was Bellinger's forte at San Diego State

SDS rarely threw the ball, but they ran a ton and Bellinger was a major factor in their blocking scheme. A sports writer for the San Diego Union wrote that, in his opinion, Bellinger was the steal of the entire draft.
He'd be an upgrade by simply

not batting the ball up off his hands and causing 6 INT's.

Quite a low bar, of course...
