The Athletic: NFL Power Rankings After 4 Games

M.S. : 10/4/2022 3:15 pm

Behind a paywall so cannot link. They have the Eagles, Bills and Chief 1-2-3, which makes sense to me. The Giants are ranked 22nd and ahead of such teams as the Raiders, the Saints and the Colts, which doesn't quite make so much sense to me.

Here is a truncated write up on Giants:

"Good enough to beat bad teams...The players (after Bears game) gave the credit to the coaching... (and they) are all... pleasantly surprised by coaching competency...Giants defense... ranks 13th in defensive EPA per drive... second in the percentage of time they play man coverage... first in blitz rate..."
After the last 10 years especially the last 6

We will have to do more that beat the Bears and Panthers to get respect. If 9 games in we are 6-3 we will start to get some credit. Until then the only credit will come from the fans.
The W-L record

doesn't tell the tale at this point. It's a very flawed team finding ways to win. But those flaws WILL catch up to them over the season.

Most likely it will start to catch them this Sunday in London
Some of out flaws have a chance to be better corrected

with players coming back from injury. I agree it will still be a flawed team but how much still can change a bit imv.
I saw one site that had them ranked 15th

and another 18, but not 22nd?!
The test for the Giants will come when they play the Packers.

I am hoping they play good defense and run the ball well otherwise it will be a blowout.

Seems like the goal posts are getting moved here. Pretty sure many, probably the majority had them losing to the Titans, even quite a few to the Panthers.

I get it though, if a bad team, or even a perceived bad team gets an unexpected win, the opponent probably wasn’t that good to begin with.

This is a team that has exceeded expectations in the first 4 games, it is a team that can get better with each passing week or totally collapse into the lane of futility once again

If we use past performances as the metric in which to measure them, surprising start or not. 22 fIts.

But we don’t really know how this might play out. We ve been conditioned to expect and believe the worst, it might play out this team is better than most believe.

I think Giants games going forward will boil down to this

Against teams that have a competent offense (such as Green Bay, Baltimore, Seattle, Philly, Detroit, Minny), hard to envision the Giants offense matching their output. All other teams, I think the Giants stand a fair chance.
NY media seems to disregard the Giants

Boomer was praising Zach Wilson this morning because of his 4th quarter comeback. Rarely has any positive comments for us. He is envious of QB salaries today.
