Game 1: Carrasco (NYM) vs. Abbott (WASH)
Game 2: Walker (NYM) vs. Espino (WASH)
We've got a doubleheader with questionable weather today in Flushing, with Game 1 scheduled to start in about ten minutes, pending of course any further delays due to inclement weather (we can keep comments & discussion for both games on this thread).
The Braves have a magic number of 1 to win the division, so there will be three chances for that to happen today between their game in Miami later and the Mets' two games today in Queens. Let's see what happens. The odds are overwhelmingly in the Braves' favor (92%) according to
PlayoffStatus.com.
Let's see what happens with the Phillies and Padres too today. The odds are that the Mets will play San Diego (84%), but don't be surprised to see Philly slide in there on the last day since there's only one game separating them now and also because Philly has the tie-breaker between themselves and San Diego since they won the season series against them. Things are still up in the air other than the identity of the 12 playoff teams. The Brewers were eliminated yesterday when the Phillies won against Houston and clinched a playoff berth of their own.

And is it Jay on a the Island??? who was the Braves fan? To the only good Braves fan - congrats to your douchebag if a team in another incredible season.
Thanks Shecky and I will congratulate you guys on a hell of a season. 100 wins is no easy task and I know many of you guys are down after the sweep but as the Braves proved last year anything can happen in the playoffs. This was the most exciting season that I can remember in nearly two decades.
Keep Vogelbach on the bench for an important situation against a RHRP.
Assuming no Marte, start McNeil in the OF and Guillorme at 2b.
Nimmo
Lindor
McNeil
Alonso
Escobar
Canha
Alvarez
Guillorme
Nidon't or McCan't
Vogelbach, Naquin, Vientos on bench to hit for catchers if the situation calls for it.
100 wins :-) Let's make it 101 tomorrow :-)

let's pray for a 4/4 with 4 homers for alvarez. if he can do some damage it could be a real gamechanger and right now he's a total unknown. the 2 balls he mashed today were both of RHP too.
About a dozen times in all of mlb history
Worked out well for the dodgers last year
Would be pretty sweet.

I know that other teams have lost the division with 100 wins. But the Giants, for example, didn't clinch DURING the Dodgers 100th victory.

Mets are the #4 seed as the first Wild Card in the NL against either the Pads or Phils. If the Pads win tonight, then it'll be the Pads.
On to the Padres.
if he plays tomorrow, he should DH. i want the guy to win the batting title but they cannot afford an injury and it's 1 game. if they were winning the division and coming up on 5 days off it's one thing but they have 1 day off and then wild card. give him the day off or at worst dh him and dont let him play the field.

Sound logic. I'm down with that. Put Luis in at 2nd.

man tomorrow's lineup. it's crazy but i think id go:
LF Canha
SS Guillorme
2b Escobar (has played there before, who knows may need to go there in an emergency in postseason?)
DH Vogey
C Alvarez
RF Naquin
3b Vientos
1b McCann
CF Gore
not sure who else they have with the team that's not on the active roster but if they can they could use some more bodies.
Maybe start them, especially since Lindor and Alonso have played in every game so far this season (correct me if I'm wrong please) and might want to finish things off in that regard in the season finale, and then remove them during the game.
Padres have clinched the 5 seed. It'll be Pads at Mets on Friday and Saturday (and Sunday, if necessary).

With the way the matchups are though you have to figure the Mets/Padres will be in either the 4pm range or 9pm range for start time right?
I’d guess the lineup will be TB/Cle early followed by M’s/Jays, Phils/Cards and Mets/Pads in that order.
McNeil: .32645
Freeman: .32236
Freeman needs to go 4-4 today to beat Jeff
So... do you just sit Jeff? Doesn't seem in his nature but I guess we'll find out later

Actually won’t be 9pm from Citi but I’ll be curious to see the schedule MLB comes up with
And in no way is it over for New York. A year ago very few here in Atlanta had much hope for the Braves to make it to the promised land but some good pitching and a handful of epic at bats got them thru it.
Look forward to a good postseason of watching who comes out of the NL...

He should sit because he needs the two day rest, just like the other regulars

Yes, of course. While there are things you can complain about, it’s hard to be too down about a team that wins 100 games.
I don’t think that I would have signed up for it to go down the way it did, but the bottom line is that we are a damn good team. They have a really tough road ahead of the…so let’s see what damage they can do.
No need to rehash other than to say the handling of Alvarez was the most bizarre thing I have ever seen.

+1. Would you guys agree that there seemed to be a bit of a conflict of interests in the Mets' front office with Sandy and his son along with Eppler and Buck? Vientos and Alvarez should have been called up a long time ago, so that Alvarez's at bats in Atlanta wouldn't be the first ones he swung during the regular season.
McNeil: .32645
Freeman: .32236

I had a slight rounding/truncation error in above
McNeil: 0.32645
Freeman: 0.32237
If McNeil goes 0-0... Freeman needs 4-4
If McNeil goes 0-1... Freeman needs 4-4
If McNeil goes 1-1... Freeman needs 5-5
If McNeil goes 0-2... Freeman needs 3-3
If McNeil goes 1-2... Freeman needs 5-5
If McNeil goes 0-3... Freeman needs 3-3
If McNeil goes 1-3... Freeman needs 4-4
If McNeil goes 2-3... Freeman needs 6-6
If McNeil goes 3-3... Freeman needs 8-8
If McNeil goes 0-4... Freeman needs 2-2
If McNeil goes 1-4... Freeman needs 4-4
If McNeil goes 2-4... Freeman needs 5-5
If McNeil goes 3-4... Freeman needs 7-7
If McNeil goes 4-4... Freeman needs 9-9
So really no risk at all in giving Jeff a start.. if he gets a hit in his 1st AB, he basically forces a 5-5 day for Freddie... but if he is hitless in that 1 AB, it changes nothing

I think the thing that troubles me is that the front office did not facilitate success.

I said it earlier on this thread - a hallmark of Alderson is indecision. In trades and in callups. He constantly left the bench shorthanded while trying to decide whether or not to put players on the DL, while other GMs complained about how hard he is to trade with because he would take forever to make decisions
The handling of the minor leaguers is just another piece of evidence that Alderson has been running the show
He needs to go 4-4 to overtake Jeff
He needs to go 4-4 to overtake Jeff
5-6 or 5-7 would get it done too mathematically so making an out or 2 doesn't technically end it, but practically not really feasible
The Milwaukee owner hates big market teams and has never let Stearns interview. Maybe Stearns can finally talk him into it
Other than that, I dont want the guys from KC and Texas who were canned this season
It seems Alderson will lead this process, which would be bad
