Game 1: Carrasco (NYM) vs. Abbott (WASH)
Game 2: Walker (NYM) vs. Espino (WASH)
We've got a doubleheader with questionable weather today in Flushing, with Game 1 scheduled to start in about ten minutes, pending of course any further delays due to inclement weather (we can keep comments & discussion for both games on this thread).
The Braves have a magic number of 1 to win the division, so there will be three chances for that to happen today between their game in Miami later and the Mets' two games today in Queens. Let's see what happens. The odds are overwhelmingly in the Braves' favor (92%) according to
PlayoffStatus.com.
Let's see what happens with the Phillies and Padres too today. The odds are that the Mets will play San Diego (84%), but don't be surprised to see Philly slide in there on the last day since there's only one game separating them now and also because Philly has the tie-breaker between themselves and San Diego since they won the season series against them. Things are still up in the air other than the identity of the 12 playoff teams. The Brewers were eliminated yesterday when the Phillies won against Houston and clinched a playoff berth of their own.

We should have a result in about an hour if things don't go to extra innings.
We will see them again.
Haha was about to post that he's doing some nice Boras binder stat padding today
He deserves it. Him and McNeil only ones who showed up in Atlanta

The other hope is that the injuries to Jake and Max have their arms fresh for a playoff run, and that they are really pissed about their previous starts and ultra focused this weekend
Meanwhile 2-1 Braves going B7 in Miami
And the Phillies are down 6-0 in Houston 2nd inning, so if the Padres win tonight and the Phils lose - its the Padres this weekend unless the Marlins can stun the world

Mets should have been in the World Series that year against the A's.
It’s against the Nats. I’m not getting too excited over them pitching “okay” against one of the worst teams in the league.
That Cardinals team almost did not make playoffs after losing 7 straight in last two weeks.
Playoffs are a new season. Everybody is 0-0. And I don't think keeping fresh with the WC series is necessarily a bad thing. Padres are a tough matchup but it can be good to have tough matchups, just like Football Giants did in 2007 playoff run.

Winning the WC instead of winning the division is most definitely a bad thing.
But I love your optimism!!!
Yes anything can happen, but to get through SD, LA, and ATL and then have something left in the tank to win the World Series is a very tall order
And Minter got him to pop up
Braves 3 outs away.
Mets can start resting guys soon

I don't view the WC as adding some type of endurance challenge to this thing...it's baseball, they play basically everyday
To me it's just opening up another chance to lose a series, since baseball is closest to 50/50 proposition of any major sport as it is
They kept saying it because it's true
Kinda like how you kept saying "its ok, just do this and this" as the Mets kept losing to bad teams. That didnt work, either
That doesnt mean the Mets cant win it all, but there is zero doubt that it is going to be much, much harder now

I did not say it wasn't an advantage...it is harder.
I'm talking about WHY it is.
I don't think it's a matter of endurance or having something "left in the tank"..it's just a longer road and more things can go wrong on a longer road

but you cant compare previous playoffs to this one because of the new setup

A very simplistic, yet ignorant view. I get that you are the eternal optimist…but, lol, just stop.
Just ask the Rangers, who ran out of gas playing a very rested Tampa Bay team in the Stanley Cup semifinals

Bro I think you only read half my damn post, just like snablats...
It's a harder road!! But endurance isn't why

Hockey is completely different!! That's my damn point.
We can beat them.
Mets can shut it down
So….two pitchers kill us but “we can beat them” in a three game series. You guys are really special.
Too bad…we only lead the division every day until game #158. Such a typical Mets fucking season.

Dude. You are one of the most annoying posters that has ever come through BBI. Your toxicity game after game has ruined these threads here. Im surprised you arent celebrating right now for how much you pom pom'd the Braves all year.
Well the Mets certainly never make it easy for themselves or their fans I'll say that.

So yeah, outside of Darvish and Snell and Soto and Macbado WHO KILL US…we should be just fine in a three game series.

That’s rich. You’ve been a joke on this site for years. A literal fucking punching bag because of the continual ignorant shit you spew. You are one of the biggest pieces of shit on this site. But go on. I’ll be there waiting for the next time you contradict your own bullshit. Moron.

Dude serious question. Are you a fucking troll? At worst you are, at best you are just miserable and annoying.

honestly the way they played down the stretch im glad they didn't back into it. obviously think it was a huge choke job in atlanta and a big missed opportunity, but let's say they won 2 more games vs CHI/WSH earlier in sept, would that be better knowing they still couldn't win 1 game in ATL?
atlanta deserved the division and i hope the mets are force fed obnoxious videos of them celebrating in their clubhouse. then like buck said i hope they go out and take it out on their WC opponent.
