I like Empires and a variety not on this list, Opals.

McIntosh, also good. Just tried Ginger Gold for the first time, liked 'em.

Don't much care for Granny Smith, Fuji or Red Delicious.
McIntosh are by far and away my favorite.

My grandparents used to bring a couple bushels down every Fall when they stopped by our house during their annual migration from Rochester to Florida.

My Mom would always make cider or some type of sweet with most of them. Good childhood memories.

Cool!

My fav ON this list is the Envy variety .

Also, I eat an apple every day! So it's good to have a list.

Yes! McIntosh are the best. Perfect blend of sweet and sour.
Over the summer, I was getting

Sugar Bee apples in Maryland. They are very sweet and have a nice crisp to them.
McIntosh was my Mom's favorite

of cider now. I start with 3 gallons of a blended cider and 1 gallon of tart cider from Delicious Orchards. This year I used a crisp and tart yeast from Fermentis. Does anyone know of any farm in central Jersey that will press the cider for you when you buy a bushel or two?
Honey Crisp

This crazy guy gidiefor turned me on to them and I honestly hate apples. I eat them every day
I take the heirloom apples over any one listed
JohnB : 10/9/2022 5:51 am : link
Cox Orange Pippin, Roxbury Russet, Baldwin, Esopus Spitzenberg , Wolf River. Grimes Golden.

The list goes on and on. All of the above trees are hard to grow and are not popular because orchards don’t find them profitable. An Esopus Spitenberg is an explosion of flavor like nothing else…. if you can find them…. And you can if you look.

Hey Larry -- My new favorite is Snap Dragons, which like Cosmic Crisp is a Honey Crisp off spring. Do yourself a favor and try a Snap Dragon, it leaves both of them in the dust, and that's saying something.

Love Snapdragons, but I can't find them anywhere in DC anymore. Had some good luck a couple of years ago, but hard going ever since.
sorry to here that Jan

there are definitely supply issues with it. It is a relatively new breed and the orchards up here have been doing serious plantings of it. It takes a while for them to develop an orchard of them. We have them here because a lot of our growers brought into the patent when it first was developed. Eventually the supply will expand. The reviews on it are solid as it pertains to taste and texture. It stores much longer and better than the honey crisp so it is bound for better more wide-spread commercial success.
Cortland might be my favorite

though I'll eat all kinds. We had some things going on the last 6 weeks so I might have missed our picking window this year. I'll have to check some local orchards for upcoming weekend.

I talk every year about planting a few trees. I really should do it.
