They made this game too close and had to rely on turnovers by the defense and a long FG by Gano to win because Kafka was coaching this game scared with no creativity
That has been the whole season. This isn’t an offense that is going to be able to pass all over the other team and blow people out.
You thought there was a good chance we'd go 0-4 the next 4 so...
Three things:
(1) Here are my exact words:
2-2 in the next four games will be an amazing feat. 1-3 would hardly be shocking. And 0-4 I'm afraid is attainable.
(2) Compared with the fantasy statements this week by some BBIers about the resurrection of Kenny Golladay against Houston, my statement above isn’t so bad.
(3) And I said before the game that Kenny Golladay would do nothing today… several times.
I guess that makes me 1-for-2, batting .500! (:-) LOL
Good points. I do think that Detroit is going to be a tough game for them.
I was hoping Golladay would show up. He didn't. Maybe his last game uniform as a Giant.
to throw the ball is unsustainable. I know Houston has the worst run defense in the league and we probably have the worst WRs and TEs, but Kafka telegraphed every first down play as a run to Barkley. On several occasions, Barkley ran the ball four or five times in a row. Sure, Golladay dropped an easy pass and should be benched, but Kafka rarely made any attempt to move the ball down field through the air. What's even more puzzling is that there were no designed runs with Jones. And we did we try to score at the end of the half with so little time left and so far to go, even for a FG?
Thought the defense played well, especially Lawrence, Williams, and Jackson. Thibs is being held, but I agree he's not going to get those calls until he gets some sacks. And that won't happen until he gets stronger IMO.
You answered your own question - HOU sucks against the run and we have very few weapons. When they did throw to the WR’s, Golladay dropped two first downs, including one that would have gone for 20+ yards.
I think we can all agree Golladay will be on the Sy
Those of you concerned with how we’re winning, well, after the last 6 years I don’t know what to even say to you other than that there have been about 70 games played in the NFL so far this year that have been within one score.
It’s looking very likely that Daboll is going to take this team to the playoffs in year 1, who can complain about that?
This current group is being held together with glue right now but if we can get Bellinger, Neal, McKinney and Ojulari back on the field maybe we can surprise some people.
I will be curious to see why Jones didn’t run really at all today. Nothing by design anyway.
It was a very conservative game plan today. Run the ball, stop the run and don’t turn it over. It has worked all year as our margin for error is extremely razor thin, but it’ll come back to haunt us against teams with better offenses like Dallas, Philly and Vikes. 8 more games of which 5 are Division games too.
Maybe they will change the gameplan for those types of games? We'll find out soon.
Would be nice if they had practice going for the kill against one of the worst teams in football instead of waiting till they play a great team
It's not like Dabs wasn't being aggressive at times. Remember the brutal false-start when going for it on 4th and 1. That fuck up really changed the game.

30 plus rushes for over 4ypc. Hold the team to less than 20 and win the turnover battle.
Few reasons they are running so much. Lack skill guys outside SB. Today Wink had three rookies starting and a bunch of injuries.
As a team they need to win the play count. Look what happened on that one drive where they tried to give a breather to Williams and Lawrence both of who have played high plays this year. Incompletion lead to stopping the clock and no advance in down/distance.

why put your qb in harms way if you dont need to?

That was far too complex for a 4th and 1 QB sneak. I do not think Jones has been stopped yet with a regular keeper. There was confusion before the TO, too.
They are 8-2, so that is so totally unexpected. But Jones was killing the Texans in the 3rd quarter. Why did they stop letting Jones throw...
Not satisfied with a win. Complaining and we are 7-2. Worried about style points. Geez this team has to play this way to have a chance. Well coached and don't turn the ball over. Enjoy it.

Because they want to sign him to a bargain basement deal. That’s the first step in the rebuild.

About KG today. The biggest surprise isn't the lack of stats it was the fact that he blatantly dropped two passes, both of which stopped drives in their tracks!
Here is my question, do we see Golladay get released after that pathetic performance? I know if it were me I would cut him no matter what I needed to do to make it work..

Sounds like you need to write an impassioned letter to Dabs.
they get a bit more acclimated. Cager is a lousy blocker, but can catch the ball. I ca see why they brought in the jumbo TEs on occasion. Until we get Bellinger back, I think we’ll continue to see more of that.
On another note, next weeks game will also not be a walk in the park, as Goff can sling the ball around and Detroit is playing better on offense this year too. It’s going to be another close game. I hope they don’t look ahead to Dallas though as we will need this game too.
and the lead the whole game. Texans are a scrappy team but I think Giants had it and were clearly better. Pierce is the real deal. I’m not going to complain about not ‘winning good enough.’ 7 - 2 is 7 - 2. Daboll is coaching his ass off, incredible job by him.

They can’t afford to release him.
RE: What happened to our defense in the second half?
Also Jones didn't attempt a pass in the 4th quarter
No one has talked about the fact McKinney was the one who made adjustments in the defense in reaction to the offensive alignment and got people in the right place. Maybe that had something to do with a lot of receivers running open in the second half.
I didn't expect Jones to throw a pass in the fourth (especially with the lack of quality receivers). Jones didn't need to throw a pass. This is how the Giants have won throughout the '80s, '90s', and in this century. They don't blow people out. It's frustrating, but anyone who has been around a while should understand it.

Everything goes down to the wire or was a struggle (the Jets game that year as a case of two halves, a messy game in London against the Dolphins, Chicago, Akers hitting the upright as time expired, etc).
4 ints in last two weeks and one to lose the game. Some on this board would want him replaced with an unproven college kid. It’s just brutal. Before I hear DJ is no Josh Allen (well he is not). But he also doesn’t turn it over like Josh this year neither.

You could include Aaron Rodgers into that with three INTs against Detroit....
to hide them for Dallas, Wash, and Philly. Have been very vanilla the last two games
Golladay dropped one pass, the first one was a bad throw
Detroit has a lot of offense and not much defense
Charles Davis said something interesting near the end of the game - he said Mills told him that the biggest adjustment for a college QB is reading the defense POST snap because the NFL hides things on defense and tries to fool you while colleges never do. Davis then said so being able to process fast post snap is the key

Could of been a bad throw of he was expecting Slayton to sit on the route. Who really knows. Good thing they hit a big play after that.
I know he was trying to stay in bounds, but a first down there would have helped us more than staying in bounds.
It was 2nd down, and we would have gotten two extra plays by making the first down, and it would have made the FG shorter. I think that was a bad decision.
Not surprising to me that they went super conservative all game. They played a bit sloppy and Daboll likely realized once they got up 2 possessions that as long as they kept Houston at bay, Houston offense wasn’t going to do much so they essentially just ran out the clock

There are too many salary cap implications to release him IIRC. The question is whether he will dress again. The bigger question is whether Schoen will restructure his contract even if he doesn't dress since that is apparently the only way we can create some much needed cap space.
RE: Don’t think they’re hiding anything from the Cowboys and Eagles
This is the offense this year. It’s how they’re going to win games.
They have clearly not used plays in the last 2 games that were a big part of the offense in the first part of the season. The offense is way more vanilla than it was before
It makes sense that they are keeping those plays under wraps again until Dallas and Philly

Maybe next week they need to throw it 35+ times to win. The goal was to go 1-0 this week and they accomplished it.

Could of been a bad throw of he was expecting Slayton to sit on the route. Who really knows. Good thing they hit a big play after that.
It was 2nd down, and we would have gotten two extra plays by making the first down, and it would have made the FG shorter. I think that was a bad decision.
Definitely deserves some criticism but it worked.

4 ints in last two weeks and one to lose the game. Some on this board would want him replaced with an unproven college kid. It’s just brutal. Before I hear DJ is no Josh Allen (well he is not). But he also doesn’t turn it over like Josh this year neither.
God this is so annoying.
Let us know when Jones has a game as good as Allen’s best games.
I'm sure Dan Marino had many great games but did he win a SB?
So let’s don't compare QBs. Its timing and as long as you play better than the other QB in the game
So then we can stop with posts and threads any time a top end QB has a bad game?
Here is my question, do we see Golladay get released after that pathetic performance? I know if it were me I would cut him no matter what I needed to do to make it work..
There are too many salary cap implications to release him IIRC. The question is whether he will dress again. The bigger question is whether Schoen will restructure his contract even if he doesn't dress since that is apparently the only way we can create some much needed cap space.
They have clearly not used plays in the last 2 games that were a big part of the offense in the first part of the season. The offense is way more vanilla than it was before
It makes sense that they are keeping those plays under wraps again until Dallas and Philly
