pretty drastic change here in just the past 3-4 weeks.
WR1 is now Slayton who was inactive to start the season.
WR2 is now Wandle putting former WR2 to teh bench with almost no snaps in James.
WR3 is Hodgins who benched KG and made Sills inactive. Hodgins can block and play specials.
Who will be WR 4/5/6 - they have soured on KG/Johnson/James/Sills due to poor play, a multitude drops, lack of separation and fumbles etc.
Foster is my X factor on the practice squad, i think hes better than Johnson, knows Daboll/Schoen.
Pimpleton could take over James spot as PR/backup slot, but just a rookie.
Polk has interesting size/hands/route running and a prolific college career.
Will the practice 3 get a chance over the latter 4 of KG/Johnson/James/Sills?
im not out on shepard/johnson in 2023.
slayton i wish they negotiated with him a small 7-8 million dollar contract for 2-3 years hed accept. thats the going rate for WRs.
KG is going nowhere for this season unless they IR him. James/Johnson are vested vets i believe - which makes them hard to cut. Sills might be cut soon if they need a roster spot.
Golladay will be lucky to see the active roster again.
Shep is done forever.
As for the others - Richie James, Marcus Johnson, David Sills - I don't see any of them coming back in 2023. This passing offense is bottom of the league for a reason. They need to overhaul this WR room completely.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isnt Pimpleton noted for being an excellent ST player.
Hodgins has a fantastic opportunity - one he never got in Buffalo because his path was mostly blocked by Jake Kumerow, among others. He still has to show he belongs. Good start against Houston, and he’ll face another bad defense on Sunday. If he keeps making plays in the big division games, he can jump from Buffalo afterthought to Alpha Giant. Or maybe he goes silent and Daboll reverts to hoping Kenny Golladay rises from the crypt.
David Sills should be done, I guess maybe he’s Hodgins’s backup now? I’d be happy to never see him on the field again. As bad as Golladay has been, I still rather watch him - at least this week, against his old team.
Johnson is now Slayton’s backup. Somebody has to be, and I doubt he is any better or worse than the alternatives.
Richie James is on a 1 year 1m guaranteed contract. He's for sure gone in the off season. I don't think he even played against Houston so if the staff is done with him he'll be gone soon anyhow to open a roster spot. 1m is a rounding error on the cap. His punt return mishaps aside he also dropped some catches in the middle of the year after a fairly promising start.
Big question on the "hands miracle" which seems to be occurring. We can tolerate an occasional drop in return for the big play ability, but this guy use to drop at least one a game. Also, could be a momentum killer as a well-executed third down pickup became a punt.
Last few weeks he has been catching everything. Not to look a gift horse, but one has to ask why?

Unlike Richie James, Johnson was not on the Week 1 roster.

Believe James returned punts in the 2nd half vs HOU (1 or 2)

I don't think there is any plan at all. Guys have a chance every week to earn snaps. Daboll is demanding production from these guys every week. It's possible KG, James and Sills could all be active this week.
Not sure about Slayton. He had to take a big pay cut just to stay with the team before the season started, but playing well could force the Giants to change their mind. His problem as others have noted, is drops.
James can be cut, but I don't think he will be. But I'm fine cutting him, Johnson, or Sills for Polk, Foster, or Pimpleton.
I wouldn’t say they’re the worst, if Slayton continues to play as he has. I think they’re an average receiving corps with his current play.
I actually think Sills is the 4th best option…Johnson is more talented but doesn’t seem to have very good ball skills.
2023- it’s going to be tough to rebuild this group in FA. I think Slayton is back. The only appealing option to me is Hardman because of his speed and familiarity with Kafka- but he’s not a true #1 or #2 option. Still would be an upgrade from what they have…
Draft- I love Zay Flowers. He’s not big but he can fly. He can play the outside. Great route runner, explosive after the catch, and he has outstanding ball skills that help him play bigger than his frame. He’ll be an option at end of r1. Reminds me quite a bit of Jaylen Waddle.
Hodgins may be the 3rd down guy that Golladay was supposed to be. Not impressed by Robinson so far. Waiting for that big ‘run after catch’ play. ______________________________________________
It's early, but so far Wandale looks just OK. For a guy that's so tiny, you expect him to have electric speed an moves and they don't seem to be there.
Such a shame Toney didn't work out here, because he's 10 times more talented than Wandale.
