Cowboys and, to a lesser extent, Giants players are openly talking about OBJ joining their team.
The Cowboys and Giants front office have both openly talked about interest in OBJ.
The OBJ hype is really kicking into high gear in the media, and rather not its actually the case, its been setup as a Cowboys vs Giants decision.
So as the Giants and Cowboys gear up for what is probably going to be the most watched Thanksgiving Football game of all time, with massive divisions and playoff implications on the line, the biggest storyline is going to be OBJ.
Just an observation.
We could obviously use help in our WR core and he might be a good mentor for Wandale.
He has had some horrific injuries, but I was watching some of his highlights the other night and my jaw still drops seeing what he was able to do.
+infinity
Joking aside I hope it's the right move for the team because it would be a ridiculously fun story.
Yeah, he hasn't even been cleared yet, to my knowledge. Team OBJ might just be beating the bushes for interest. We shall see, indeed.
But Giants didn't do a deal at the trade deadline for a reason and we don't have the cash to sign him unless he's willing to take a minimum deal to come hear, which is doubtful. So the talk is the talk, but in the end, does anyone really believe Odell is going to sign some minimum deal to play for anyone?

No I dont, not for one year but for the Giants money opens up next year. Could a multi year deal make sense?

If it is just a one year deal- money can be made by either:
1. Restructuring someone
or more likely
2. Giving him a signing bonus with void years tacked on to spread out the bonus hit. For a few games, it won't be that big anyway.
My guess is its at least a two year deal regardless with team/player options in the future.
They can totally make the money work. Money is not the issue.
The issues are:
Do they want him (based on obviously health/culture fit)
Does he want us
The tea leaves seem to say yes.
he's going to the Bills.

I believe a large part of the reason they didn't do a deal at the deadline was because the asking prices (draft picks) were unreasonable.
Signing OBJ wouldn't cost any draft picks. Whether they can afford to sign him and whether he could contribute are different questions, but I don't think the fact they didn't make a trade means anything re. Odell.
2). Money - this is the question that matters. I hear all the time that the Giants have no cap space this year and thus can't sign him. This is dumb. If they want him, they can move money around. You almost always can. The issue is whether they want to pay him what he will cost. I am fine giving him a 2 or 3 year deal, with a big dollar amount in the last year. The key is how much is guaranteed. I could see doing a 3 year (2023-2025) for $50MM where you guarantee 2023 at a high but reasonable number (maybe $6), 2024 at $14MM, and 2025 at $30MM. Guarantee all of 2023 and maybe part of 2024. That splits the risk. If he bombs cut him after 2023. If he is great, he will get paid in 2025. Middle ground is about right. High risk/high reward for us. I think it is low risk/good reward deal for him. All of this contingent on 100% being comfortable with his health. It is very reasonable to say no interest on the basis of the knee injuries so far.
Has a WR ever come back from ACL surgery on the same knee twice and been effective?

Not at the price of multiple high draft picks, but it's not clear whether they're interested in signing Odell at a reasonable price.

He hasn’t been that guy for quite awhile. Odds are, at 30 with 2 ACLs plus the other injuries, he’s barely a jag at this point.
He looked pretty damn good with rams last yr
I would hardly call him a JAG
Lost a step, sure. But he still has great body control, can get in and of of his breaks, has solid hands etc
Matured too. I would take him in a heartbeat
Be the best WR on team by far.
Not saying we are on SB run but NFC is wide open. Philly tough. So are niners, Dallas. Even Seattle. Never discount Brady.
Can’t just assume we are gonna win as many close games in 2023. Even with better health and talent.
I don’t think he is anymore. Dude hasn’t said boo
It’s just media reporting all this is stuff
He wants redemption in NY. It could happen
I’m not sure the Giants could even do the deal without a multi year contract to spread out the money
We will have to hear all about it, unless he another team signs him.
I agree the team is "sensitive to the long term", but I don't think the fact they traded away Toney, who was clearly a problem (with questions of whether he knew the playbook or whether he wanted to play) or the fact they chose to not overpay in a trade for another WR, have much or anything to do with whether they would simply sign Odell at a reasonable price.
If you listen to Schoen, he definitely wanted to trade for a WR, but the cost in draft picks was too high. The cost in draft picks of signing Odell is zero.
Part of the long term is figuring out whether to resign Jones. Giving him a decent WR to work with would help that evaluation. And playoff experience would also help the long term growth of the team. I don't think I'm going out on a limb saying that a better balanced offense would help us go further.

At a reasonable price, sure. They would be interested. But how reasonable a deal would Odell be willing to take?
I guess we'll see. At his age, coming off a 2nd ACL, he's prolly not getting a mega contract. If the Cowpies or other team decide to overpay, that's their problem.
he's going to the Bills.
Bills are no lock anymore. Lost 2 straight and Josh Allen's elbow is barking
If OBJ wants to hit the ground running with the best chance to produce, I don't know how he chooses NYG over other spots.
In Dallas, he will be surrounded by better skill players that will likely create more chances. Same in Baltimore. Same in Buffalo.
With NYG, OBJ, if healthy, would very likely draw a lot of double teams and he'd be playing with a QB less talented than other options.
I could be wrong, but that just doesn't seem like the best formula for him from an individual standpoint.
Book it, Tony Khan!
Waiting for Bora$ to jump sports and bring in the Mystery Team!

And I am dumber than dumb when it comes to NFL salary caps…
…but aren’t the Giants hard-up-against-the-wall when it come to spending money on new players?
We are operating by signing guys to PS minimum deals and maintaing less the 53 on the active roster.
this is make believe talk.
last time the Giants were good was when OBJ was here. LAst time the offense was god...again...see above.
For the 100th time, Odell went nuts here because the Giants suck. That's a risk I am willing to take because guess what? IF the Giants suck it doesn't matter whether a player goes nuts or says some stupid shit on twit--we're losing regardless and if you thuink a player's works can lead a team to ruin you're living in high school study hall. These are pros. The team puts that shit behind them. Fans like you, do not.

They traded away a first round WR in his second year and opted not to make any deals for help at the trade deadline. That is clear indication the team is very sensitive to the long term view and I don't see any reason why a deal with OBJ wouldn't be seen through a similar lens.

I don’t think signing OBJ would make any difference in the evaluation of Jones. They see him every day, they know his strengths and liabilities.
Signing OBJ will be all about 7-2 and needing help at the receiver position

2 or 3 year deal? Are you Dave Gettleman? Good grief...he'd have to play like he did here the 1st time to even be close to the numbers you're throwing around. I bet when you buy cars, you walk in and offer them $15K over sticker...then tell your friends what a great deal you got!

Rams signed him for 1 year 1.25 million, plus incentives. He is worth less than that after a second ACL

If you could guarantee we would get even the 2021 Rams version of OBJ, I'd be all over it. But, there is no way we can guarantee anything with his 2nd ACL surgery less than a year ago and his ankle. And, the Giants don't really have the cap space to make it happen unless they sign him to a 3 or 4 year deal, which I can't get behind again for the injury concerns. SO, I'd say pass.
