List your Likes/Dislikes about the Shoen/Daboll NY Giants

gidiefor : Mod : 11/17/2022 12:50 pm
There's so much going on that I like and am frustrated about this team right now I thought it would be good to assess and weigh this:

Here goes my take:

Like/Love

- I am really loving Daboll and Wink, Kafka is harder to Like but I haven't placed him in the Dislike column

-- I am loving the defensive and Offensive schemes -- definitely feel like I'm watching a real football team again -- especially the defense

- I love Bobby Johnson and Andre Patterson - I like most of the rest of the coaches with a few exceptions

- I love Dexter Lawrence - I meant really love Dexter Lawrence

- and I love the tandem of Big Cat and Sexy Dexy - man that is Giants Football right there

- I like Julian Love, I like McKinney, I like KT, I am even warming up to Adore Jackson -- who I didn't really appreciate until recently

- I like the newly drafted and UFDa Guys - McFadden, Belton, Dane, Fox

- I love the fact that we've been on this winning roll -- 7/2 looks good and I am looking forward to the rest of the season

- I like the way DJ is making better decisions on the field

- I love Thomas and Neal and Gates, and I love the fact that we have a lot of beef for the line -- it does not seem futile anymore

- I like Bellinger

- I like the Talent scouting that's taking place -- they really seem to be getting the most out of the signings they are bringing on

- I like the way Barkley is running this year

Dislike/Haytes

- I Dislike Golladay and the left over stink of the last GM - especially what was done to the salary cap

- I dislike the WR corps -- I am having a real hard time with them -- but I do think the staff is getting the most out of them

- I don't like the make up of the RB core in total - I think Barkley is good - but I don't think there is much behind him

- Not crazy about the CB corps -- while I think we've been getting the most out of them -- I think there are a lot of Jags out there beside Jackson -

- I don't know why but I'm not crazy about Groh the WR coach, he rubs me the wrong way

Bonus Neutral Section

- I am neutral about Jones. I just am not sure he's the guy. He has shown some good tendencies, but he's also shown some bad ones - I am overall frustrate watch our offense - especially overall in the first half -- they've had a few games with "some" life -- but mostly they are not very productive in the beginning of games

- I am neutral about keeping Barkley. We are winning with him right now but I do think there is a solid argument to be made about not investing a lot of money in your RB. I will be interested to see how Shoen handles the personnel moves going forward. He's got some real hard decisions to make going forward -- but I do have confidence that we are going to be drafting well and getting the most value out of the new players they bring in

Overal Assessment at the 9 game mark
There a lot more to like than dislike about the Giants right now -- it's hard to ignore the dislikes - but the likes outweigh them

It's a tough run coming up. Even if the Giants get chewed up in the next 8 games I still think this will have been a successful season - I certainly hope they still show a few more surprises. In my view it will be a major coup if they do, and I will certainly enjoy that.
"Neutral about Jones"

I don't know what else this kid has to do to sway people.

It's actually pretty ridiculous. We've hung this kid out to dry since day one. 1st with hideous O-lines. And then when we improve that unit, we trot out one of the worst WR corps I've ever seen.

There is literally no one worth a damn to throw to. Our best WR, Slayton, is a #4 WR. This kid is making chicken salad out of chicken shit. A blind man could see that.
I guess Jones is like that woman who cheats on you

you can't move past it.

I think it's more that Jones couldn't cook a mean pot roast, he never cheated on us. And now he's cooking good fried chicken. Might be good for you, but it tastes great.
might NOT

Specifically about Schoen and Daboll, there's nothing for me to dislike. The Giants have turned the keys over to guys that will put them in position to win and develop a consistent winner. I love that, love the clear culture shift, love that Daboll designs the offense to the team's strengths, and the whole team has bought in. When you have guys coming up from the practice squad and playing hard and making plays, even if they are a step-down talent-wise, you have to look at the coaching and know they are doing it right.

If I'm nitpicking, I didn't love the Wan'Dale pick, and this has nothing to do with his injuries. I just liked other receivers more, notably Pickens, Pierce, and Skyy Moore. I probably would've taken Moore out of that group, and time will tell. Whose to say, have to wait three seasons to really reach a verdict.

I hope Wan'Dale can prove me wrong. He's already shown me more than I was expecting.

I think

I too like Corbin a lot. Could be a meaningful player for the Giants down the line, when they potentially move on from Saquon after the 2023 (2024?) season ;)

don't have too many dislikes at the moment
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 11/17/2022 1:24 pm : link
But if I had to list a couple

1. Bradberry Situation

I know these guys were exploring all of their options and trying their best, but everybody saw the Eagles scooping him up coming and just letting it happen kind of felt weak. Now that we're literally competing against them for the division, his presence could prove pivotal.

2. Wan'Dale Selection

I haven't given up on the kid or anything, but I am pretty down on him right now. I don't see a 2nd round talent there. Feels like they went for Toney insurance rather than an outside #1.

Yup. What the Giants did to Jones past two years is criminal. I'm not even saying Jones is THE guy. I could care less to get into that debate...but what is not questionable is the trash heap the Giants surrounded him with the past two years. Worst oline and worst skill group? He got the worst of both worlds...and of course you have the average NFL idiot fan hammering Jones for it. I absolutely loved the Peter Schrager clip someone posted earlier.

The situation a quarterback is born into in the NFL is just as critical as the potential they bring as a player..with regards to their ability to make it as a pro. Too many fans with this unrealistic ideal that "franchise" QBs just take a heaping pile of shit on their back and turn it into something...that's never happened, it doesn't happen..and fans expecting that to happen will routinely be disappointed.
They are 7-2 when I expected a 5 win season
John In CO : 11/17/2022 1:31 pm : link
My likes - Damn near everything...other than..
Dislikes - #19.

What I dont understand - You have a dislike of the WR crew as a whole. but are neutral on Jones. Im no Jones super fan, but....really, I mean, im not sure what people are expecting out of him. For my money, he is doing a good job with what he has to work with. A DAMN good job! Think about it this way..how would his game be looking with a good TE and a TOP FLIGHT WR...just one...to go along with Slayton, Robinson and Barkley??? And I mean a Hopkins, Jefferson, etc....

Part of what irks me about this: every time I read a report on the Green Bay Packers, all im seeing in "well of course Rodgers is having a bad season, look at who he is throwing the ball to". As if LOSING DEVANTE ADAMS MIGHT HAVE AN EFFECT ON HIS QB!!!!! And many of those same people seem to have no problems criticizing Jones who is throwing to a similar group of receivers.

It depends on how you approach Jones. For me, I like him and see great improvement this year. However, I think neutral is a good way to describe it, because I would be reluctant to commit the kind of money the market seems to bear. Like I said, I like him, but I don't see a $35M QB on our hands. That's how I view it.

If they re-sign him, I'm all in on him, as any fan should be . I just don't think he's worth the market value.
I can't say there is really anything I dislike about this regime/team
Matt M. : 11/17/2022 1:37 pm : link
There are certainly areas needing improvement on the roster. But, so far, I can't really complain about how Schoen and Daboll are managing this team.

Run an offense that isn't 29th in the NFL in passing? Be good enough that Barkley doesn't have to run against 8-9 on the box? Score more points? Throw for more yards and TDs? Be good enough that his HC and OC think he's good enough to stretch the field?

I think Breida has an injury history, as well as a fumbling history, so if he misses a game, Corbin will probably be in there as a backup. _________________________

I really enjoy...
bw in dc : 11/17/2022 3:09 pm : link
the way Schoen conducts himself publicly. It's refreshing compared to the recent past. IMV, the GM position is one akin to being a C-suite leader, and that requires acting a certain way.

He walked into an oil spill and has done an admirable job cleaning it up so far. So, I have no real dislikes yet. This upcoming offseason is going to be the most interesting one to gauge his long-term vision.

Daboll has exceeded my expectations. He comes across as very genuine, is comfortable in his own skin, and could break the hex of the Belichick coaching tree.

More importantly, he seems like a natural leader, relates to the players very well, motivates, nailed his staff, and knows how to manage a game.

Nothing real negative to offer.
I like how I feel after a game this year
Boatie Warrant : 11/17/2022 3:16 pm : link
Win or lose. When it comes to this team I am an optimist but the last 6-7 years has wore me out for the most part. Judge was a real let down. Daboll seems to have a presence that is genuine and infectious. I am very impressed with him and Schoen

I dislike the fact that we lost to Dallas! I dislike that we "had" to let Bradberry go
I dislike that I am still very leary of Daniel Jones' abilities. Can he win a shoot out? Can he sling the crap out of the ball? Will he ever make the game winning throw with everything on the line. Only time will tell. I Love his grit, his escapability, his go to work mentality and that no matter how much crap is shoveled on him he just keeps moving forward.
Simple
PaulN : 11/17/2022 4:06 pm : link
There is nothing not to like. The one dislike I do have, it's the dislike of so many morons on this website. It's become an epidemic. Turning this shitshow into what we are seeing today has nothing to be critical about. The idiots that continue to want to be right about their draft picks, their prediction, you know, the ones that want to have the biggest dicks. You ignore them, they ate just fucking morons.

Gettleman did not use the power of computers to draft him so bbi circle jerk hates him.

Seems like Jones has been gaining confidence all year and dare I say that will allow things to click with him this season.
likes and dislikes
djm : 11/17/2022 4:32 pm : link
I like almost everything. Every player that should be playing well is playing well. Many players that struggled prior are not struggling now.

I dislike the loss to Dallas. That needs to be reversed.
Seriously
Daniel in MI : 11/17/2022 4:34 pm : link
How can people not be overjoyed? This year is such a bonus! NYG football us fun again, not a weekly kick in the d*ck! ( Or punt in the c*nt for the ladies.)

Likes
-We are F’ing 7-2! WTAF!?
-Schoen not mortgaging the future, disciplined
- coaches are outstanding, getting the most of this team
- offense where things build, mesh, and work together
- game plans actually crafted for the opponent
- games well managed
- D gets after it! May give up some but we attack
- Wink is a cool, thoughtful guy & not a Neandertal
- seeing players develop and contribute
- seeing AT dominate
- seeing the team not beat themselves
- seeing guys step in and not huge drop off
- Seeing DBs hold up under an “on an island” scheme
- Dex and Big Cat dominate
- Thibs is a good rookie and great kid so far
- Bellinger?! He’s been terrific
- DJ has done what’s been asked, developing nicely
- Great to see 26 be 26 again, but tougher
- Neal has been ok, trending up after 1 rough game
- nice to see Slay contribute
- Gano is rock solid
- life back in the stadium

Dislikes - almost all circumstances
- injuries (sigh), especially Toney and Shep, but all of them
- bummed Toney couldn’t get it together here
- Feel bad for everyone on KG, he’s a decent guy and I think wants to contribute
- Scottish hammer needs to develop touch.

Seriously, if you’re not ecstatic about how this year has gone after the lost decade…I don’t know why you bother.

Tough to complain about the new crew when we're 7-2 & most of us didn't think we'd win 7 games @ all this season. I feel confident we got the right dudes in place @ GM & HC.
