Pushing the limits of fashion since Broadway Joe. This stuff is nothing new. It’s just recently become popular because I’m sure orgs have people that keep an eye on social media trends and someone finally noticed that people are paying attention to what their favorite players are wearing and decided to make some money off it. i.e. making player fashion part of the Broadcast to attract new viewers and now a fashion show to have some fun and keep those casual viewers engaged. Pretty good idea
I thought Cam took it too far, I'll never wear a big floppy hat or silk scarves. But I do like clothes and have more boots/shoes than my wife. If I was 24 and had that kinda money I'd probably be out there struttin too.
I think it might have started with the Cowboys, they actually have a blue carpet for the players to arrive on which is now a feature of their game day

in the late 50's. Giants had an OLB named Tom Scott who was nicknamed the gravedigger - - because that's what he did in the offseason to make ends meet.

To your point about them getting paid, I think someone gives them something for wearing some of these outfits. Whether its an official sponsorship or even a local company promising them a bunch of free stuff to wear their clothes walking into the stadium.
