Schmelk and Olsen analyze the current state of the Giants

gidiefor : Mod : 11/18/2022 9:36 am
This is another must watch in my opinion. This is about the most accurate and fairest assessment that I have heard/seen about the state of the Giants, Daniel Jones, and how and why what they've been doing works, and whether or not it is sustainable, including what to look for going forward; as well as what the upcoming match with the Lions is going to look like.

For those of us who live and die with the Giants, I highly recommend you make the time to watch/listen to this. It's really excellent.

By the way, it looks like the Giants are going to be featured with the lead broadcast team at Fox for a bunch of games going forward.

I don't want it to as I will be going with my son to meet up with my friend and his son but it is what it is. It's a good problem.
Good Listen

I couldn’t agree more with what he said. I think that he offers a very honest assessment of the current state of the giants.
Skinner - Lions run a lot of misdirection

@BobbySkinner_
Giants struggle with misdirection in the run game and the Lions are one of the best in the league at it.

Olsen echoing what some on here are saying, re: Jones...
bigblue5611 : 11/18/2022 10:43 am : link
"What he's doing right now, the style of system and the pieces around him, to be 7-2 is really impressive"

Also, "Everyone is always in a rush to get their next QB, I just remind and caution people, 'who do you think you're getting to come in and be better than him...there's just not a lot of them.'"
Yes, good listen......

Good questions and really solid answers are given.

The formula has been pretty consistent. Some of the games could of gone the other way but that is the NFL. Get the game to the 4th QTR and then find a way.

The Jones talk was solid. As others have said there are only so many "great" QB's and the draft has lots of variables. The only thing and I think it is really one of the biggest components to the Jones debate is cost moving forward which was not touched on. That cost can have a big impact on the team overall and really what JD/BD have to consider and make decisions based off.
Thanks gidie

Over Quantity in the passing game. Daboll and Co. Have really done a fantastic job of playing to this team's weaknesses and strengths. Especially with Jones. And I'll keep echoing what Olsen said over and over again. Jones is not given enough credit by the fanbase. Especially certain members of the BBI fan base.... lol
I'm worried about the Lions

As Olsen said, their offense can be explosive. They can run it and they can throw it. Is our defense better against their offense, than our offense is against their defense? That will be the test. They are capable of scoring in the 30s. Can we match that against their suspect defense?
DET can score
djm : 11/18/2022 1:26 pm : link
but they aren't the same offensive team on the road as they are at home. Home field can be important, sometimes it doesn't matter. This is one of those games where it's important in my view.

Think he hits the nail on the head regarding why the Giants have been winning and what they need to do to continue rolling.

Loved his comments on DJ, very fair and while I'm paraphrasing he said everyone is always looking for their next QB, there are only a handful of stud QB's in the league and you can win with DJ so they should focus on building around him vs. replacing him.

IMO it comes down to the Defense this year and several years in the future. If the Defense is highly overrated then it would take an additional at least two years before they are really, really good. In year 3 Barkley will probably be fading.

Then signing Jones is a move to nowhere. Might as well be in Rebuild. We'll be a mini-Atlanta Falcons team without the MVP Matt Ryan year. Or The prior years of "Playoff Bears" that led to nowhere.

But if the Defense is for real and can pick up its level quite a bit from it's current performance, then Giants can become a mini-San Fran/ Tennessee. - Then sign him. (ofc within reason. He's not getting "superstar" money.).
