Let’s say you see loose change on the ground. What is the smallest coin you will pick up & put in your pocket? Or that you believe is acceptable to pick up?
Penny?
Nickel?
Dime?
Quarter?
I Won't Pick Up Change?
I pick up all coins -- used to use pennies for IChing -- but I have a large collection jar of my loose change that I empty and deposit every couple of years
of the stories John Madden told when he hosted SNL. He walked into the bathroom and saw one of his defensive linemen tossing $20 bills into the toilet. Of course Madden asked him what was he doing and the lineman said that he dropped a $5 bill into the bowl and he wasn't going to put his hand in there for just five dollars...
I saw a quarter on the ground walking around the mall, and i went to pick it up not knowing there were about 12 teenagers a few yards away pretending to not be paying attention. Well they had glued the quarter to the ground. So when i went to pick it up they all started yelling various things. "Cheapskate!" "Get a job" "Look at that loser"

I think about the stories my parents told about struggling as children during the Great Depression and during rationing of World War II and I think to myself — you ‘re too lazy to bend over and pick up money? No way. I used to call my mom and tell her if I found something in a parking lot or somewhere. It seemed to make her exited and content about the world as long as I looked around to find its proper owner first. No judgement on others. Just me. (No — I’m not that old.)
Superstitious. Believe it's supposed to be good luck.
Same, though only pick it up if it is heads side up. I especially love the really shiny pennies. I also make wishes on eyelashes and chain clasps. I know, ridiculous stuff but couldn't hurt!

This took place before that was a thing
I gathered that from all those people being in a mall at the same time.

My grandfather told me that when he was kid he was walking with his grandfather and saw a penny. He went to pick it up and his grandfather stepped on his hand saying you have to be quicker than that.
If I were on a first date and saw a nickel next to some chewed gum, I'm probably not bending down to pick it up.
but most situations (and I've been married for almost 25 years, I don't see too many 1st dates in my future) if it's not covered in shit or puke or something I'd probably pick it up.
But the most memorable time was when I was like 8. My cousin and I were at the beach and he found a $10 bill. Whe we got back, he told my uncle. My uncle said well "if it has Hamiltom on it then its mine I lost it"...my cousing began to hand him the $10 bill.
He waited a few seconds and laughed and gave it back to him.
The first time I went to an Indian restaurant was in the late 70's, and my brother in-law was leading the way. We went to Gaylord's on Central Park South and the bill for 5 of us came to almost exactly $100, including tip. Back then, $20 wasn't haute cuisine, but it wasn't a diner meal either. (Apparently it's the equivalent of $104 today.) Each of us gave him a $20, and he paid with a credit card.
On the way out of the restaurant my bro-in-law hailed a cab, and as he was about to step in, he saw a roll of money on the pavement. He picked it up and discovered it was roll of five $20 bills. Perfect! He handed one to each of us, and I've loved Indian food ever since.
only if its heads up! Tails is bad luck.
+1
I'm a frugal cheapskate!
So i dont pick up change anymore.

I will sporadically pick up coins left by others, no hard rules as to why.

Leave that trash on the ground.
