Interesting updates here. Sounds like Apple is the front runner but wants open ended contract terms.

The NFL is a different universe of product than the MLS, Sunday Ticket won't affect the rest of the NFL's broadcasts at all. But I think that deal it gives us some idea of how Sunday Ticket streaming might work.

Streaming is great for some things but not for live sports. It’s going backwards on overall quality and convenience as far as I’m concerned.
Also Apple announced the MLS, which they have exclusive rights to will cost $14.99 a month or $99.99 for the season. If you subscribe to Apple TV+ already it's $12.99 and $79.99. Seems pretty reasonable to me even though I'm not interested. Will the NFL be double or triple price?

Apple doesn't "need" the NFL, they are doing quite well on their own. I'm sure they will make quite a bit of money if they do get it, but they would be fine otherwise.
And to be fair, the NFL doesn't "need" Apple either; they will find a partner just fine.
I'm sure they will do a back/forth on negotiations, and if either party isn't fully happy, one will pull out, and both will be fine...
But that's what I'm saying - they really don't need the NFL, they will be fine without it. Meaning, they aren't desperate to acquire them to keep their business afloat, as DTV was (DTV will die a slow death w/o NFL).
I suspect that if Apple did acquire the NFL package, it would be a loss leader for them, and they would focus on getting new Apple TV+ subscribers for the real money.
But if it goes to Amazon, apple will move on just fine...

Not only that,but if you lived in an area that couldn't get DTV (or lived in an apt, etc), you were still able to get it w/o having a dish.
I personally am rooting against this deal. I had Apple TV for a while. The content was great, but the web interface was terrible and there's no native app for Android phones.

Every other sport makes their product available to purchase on multiple media sources. It's the NFL's loss they aren't getting my money, not mine.

MLB.TV is an absolutely fantastic product.
It can be watched on any device, you can have it hide scores so you can start games late and catch up without fear or spoilers, you can jump to where you want in the game. It's all the NFL should try to do .
Unfortunately they won't get that quality and scope of offering with Apple, because as others have said Apple does what they want. They will never have universal access.

Per their press release they will have full archive functionality, and play from the beginning or play live, which implies rewind/pause/fast-forward. But honestly those features were never in doubt if they win the NFL bid.
The pricing model for MLS Season Pass is also a good clue on how Apple would price an NFL package. For non-Apple TV+ subscribers it’s $100 a year, and for AppleTV+ subscribers it’s $80.
My guess is they’ll offer a discount to TV+ subscribers. I think the networks will force Apple to charge $300/year. And Apple will extend a 10% discount to TV+ subscribers.

What are you talking about? Every channel is digital quality - not just a few like cable. I have had DTV for over 20 years in several states and it has been excellent. Easy built in DVR, plenty of space to keep what you want - and no time limit on keeping it, meaning you can keep stuff forever (unlike some of the streaming services)

How is the "Direct TV product trash?" I've had it for close to 30 years and been very happy. The streaming deals may help folks get the Sunday Ticket, but without a dvr option my NFL season is going to suck.
What information leads you to believe the new home for Sunday Ticket won't provide the equivalent of a recording of the game?
Based on baseball experience on apple tv, it will be terrible. If you don't use chrome as a browser you're shit out of luck on Android. I'm hopeful that the MLS package forces apple to make an android phone compatible app, but we'll see because they didn't do it with baseball.
I know they make an apple tv version that works on Google TV but still nothing on mobile and that's unfortunate. This is why I hope anyone but apple gets the NFL deal.
When Tim Cook's solution to having texting between apple and Android work better is to 'buy an iPhone', it doesn't really instill a lot of confidence apple ever really intends to make things easier for Android users.
