I'm afraid that the legend of Shane Lemieux is going to catch up to the reality of Shane Lemieux

What legend? He was the starter before the injury and people are a fan of him. No one thinks he’s an all pro.

There's another Lemieux thread going on that the OP calls him a "beast".

Just not sure if Beast = All Pro, but directionally that is the take.

Given that Bobby Johnson just said yesterday that the players make it easy on him in terms of who will be starting, Bobby Johnson, Mike Kafka, and Brian Daboll are idiots because they think Lemieux and Glowinksi are clearly the best options to start at guard for the New York Giants.

Fans have spoken. Our coaching staff is incompetent.

5 guys for 3 spots. A testament to the depth built in ONE off season

Anyway, best man will play. I really believe this staff when they say that

I’m excited to get frenchy back. He’s a nasty/ tough dude. And was a very good run blocker as a rook. His pass pro was bad as a rook (like ezuda it is something that takes time to improve)

IMO glowinski has disappointed. He’s good run blocking but has been really bad in pass pro. I expected a higher level base in pass pro

Feliciano has been smart at center. The line has generally been well coordinated with the right calls. Physically he gets his ass whooped a lot. Curious if this staff will give gates a shot at his old job. I thought he did really well for his first year at center and thought he had a pretty good ceiling there

Admittedly I’m a big fan of gates so maybe biased

It seems like we've got depth because we've got a bunch of decent floor OLs who don't stand apart from each other. But probably better quality as a group than we've had. We need a couple of them to raise their ceilings, especially on pass pro. We're more likely to see improvement from Gates, Ezeudo, Bredeson and Neal than we are from Feliciano or Glowinski. From what the coach says, Gates will start when he starts looking better than Feliciano in practice

Yeah watching Bobby Skinners o-line reports Ezeudu showed more pass block ability than Lemieux has IMO. Guess they want a run block mauler for another Saquon 30 plus carry game

In Art’s Twitter thread, Bobby S. was asked which LG he prefers going forward, and he said Ezeudu without hedging.

Important to note that Ezeudu wasn’t benched. He missed practice with an injury, and can use more time to heal. It’s good that Lemieux offers a viable alternative. The competition for the LG job has barely begun. OC and RG may eventually be in play too, especially if Glowinski continues to underperform. Skinner’s preference: Ezeudu - ( New Window )

Go back and watch skinner during camp. He was very high on Lemieux. He even said in this week's podcast that it's because he hasn't seen him recently.

Skinner wasn’t the only guy high on Lemieux preseason. The new regime seemed very high on him and he seemed to be very much in their plans for the starting 5. The other point on Lemieux is that does offer some positional flexibility in that he ultimately vie for reps at center as well. Just find the best 5, the right combination. It’s good to have options.
Skinner has been down on Glowinski
Larry in Pencilvania : 11/19/2022 1:24 pm : link
He recently said Glowinski is one of the worst guards and Ezudu has come a ways from where he was at the beginning of the season. He also loves his feet. I'd rather replace Glowinski at this point

Who is healthy and better? Doesn't mean he is playing well.
Exactly
Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/19/2022 1:56 pm : link
Bobby Johnson is a moron. Skinner should be hired immediately as the team's OL coach. If this continues, the Giants should fire Daboll in January.
Eric: I don't think anyone suggested Skinner knows more than Johnson.
Big Blue Blogger : 11/19/2022 2:35 pm : link
He does, however, know a good deal more than most BBI posters. He watches more tape, and has a better grasp of OL technique. I learn a lot from his OL reviews. So his opinion has some value in that regard.

Another reason Skinner's perspective has value is that he can be candid in ways the staff can't. Johnson is more blunt than most of the coaches, but he's never going to come out and say Glowinski is under-performing, whether he is or not. The only time we'll ever know Johnson is considering a change at RG or OC is when he actually makes one.

As for LG, we can only guess the pecking order. Bredeson is out, Ezeudu is dinged, and Lemieux is getting an opportunity. We don't know how the depth chart would look if all three were healthy. We just know that they all rank ahead of Jack Anderson, and that there's no appetite so far for moving Feliciano to guard.

Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/19/2022 2:39 pm : link
I hear what you are saying but it's not what Johnson is only saying, but what the coaches are doing. And what do the coaches think? They think Glowinksi is our starting right guard and Lemieux is our starting left guard.

Bobby Johnson is the only coach we've had in 10 years who seems to be able to coach the offensive line to the point where we have guys like Brian Baldinger who say he is one of the best OL coaches in the NFL.

So I tend to take Bobby Johnson's views over a YouTuber.

But that's me.

When LG Shane Lemieux gets activated from IR this afternoon the Giants will have a full 53-man roster for the first time in weeks. TE Lawrence Cager will likely be the only P-squad elevation since the Giants are as healthy as they’ve been in a while.
Eric: It's definitely not just you.

Come Sunday, the coaches' opinions are the only ones that matter. But we need to fill the space between games somehow. Can't occupy six days with a five-minute clip of Coach Johnson saying he'll play the linemen who earn it.
The previous coaching staff
Jay on the Island : 11/19/2022 6:50 pm : link
was high on Lemieux as is the current one. There is a reason he will start tomorrow and I look forward to seeing the projected starting OL all together for the first time versus Dallas or Washington.

Ezeudu is more athletic and has a higher upside than Lemieux but I feel more comfortable with Lemieux starting this season.

I don't think Shane repaid all the Lemieux love. His pass blocking was still awful. Maybe he was just rusty and can still come back strong.
This decision was a big factor in the outcome.
Matt M. : 11/20/2022 4:29 pm : link
Lemieux was that bad today but run blocking and pass blocking. I really hope they deem Gates OK to proceed at OC. If they really like Lemieux to start and chalk up today as rust, it's got to be at RG.

But, Gates at OC and Neal back make a big difference in the OL.

I agree with you about Johnson and Baldinger overall. But, I think the decision to start Lemieux was a big mistake that cost us today.

If Lemieux was and established starter prior to the year, I'd have no problem. But, he had a strong showing his rookie year that was also marred by bad pass blocking. His next season was ended by injury before it began and this year was almost the same.

I view Ezeudu as a better version of Lemieux. I liked Lemieux as a rookie and would love for him to develop as a starter. But, I want the same from Ezeudu, not one or the other.

Terrible decision to start him
Andy in Halifax : 11/21/2022 10:56 am : link
He's never been that good. Occasionally good in the run game, but has always been a disaster in the passing game. Still very much a late round development guy IMO.
I did like Lemieux as a rookie
Matt M. : 11/21/2022 1:16 pm : link
But could not understand why he was assumed to be the starter the following year with no competition. This is why they got screwed when he wasn't healthy for the season start. It's also why it was mind boggling to me how/why he started yesterday.

He had enough warts in the passing game to raise concerns. The subsequent 2 summers, we didn't see enough of him to think otherwise. Plus, he's coming off 2 summers of injuries.

If Ezeudu had sucked, I could understand. But, we was beginning to improve. He started off similar to Lemieux as a rookie. He has been very strong in the running game, especially with straight ahead blocking, and struggled with pass protection. But, like I said, we haven't seen anything from Lemieux to indicate he would be better. He should have to play his way back into the lineup. The only way yesterday would have made sense would have been if Ezeudu was inactive, which wasn't the case.

This is about right. SL seems to be able to obtain confidence from the past two coaching staffs, but that must be primarily due to lack of confidence in other available alternatives.

Basically every interior offensive lineman on this roster feels like a reserve that you are okay playing as needed, but not starting too many games in a row.

And here comes a really good pass rushing team in a few days.
...
christian : 11/21/2022 2:39 pm : link
As fans we see the results of the games, not the progress made in practice.

Lemieux got beat like a bag yesterday in pass pro, equal to or worse than he did two years ago. I'm sure the reason he got the start was a combination of looking good in practice and EZ’s neck.

I’m sure soon enough this staff will be able to see through Lemieux, and he’ll be relegated to backup.
