Not to derail the thread but I am curious about something if you don’t mind me asking? In your profile you say you have been Giants fan since 2001, and list Lawrence Taylor as one of your favorite players, but he retired in 1993. How can someone you didn’t watch play be one of your favorites? Is there some other connection?

Fair question. I like watching old football just because I want to know everything about my beloved Football Giants and I just love the way LT and how he impacted the games in our favor, as well as his general impact on the game. But yes, I didn’t become a diehard, rabid fan until I was 11 in 2001.

Why does it matter who his favorite player is? Is there an unwritten rule that you had to of watched a certain player in order for him/her to be your favorite player?

No he listed the date he became a fan as 2001, he registered in 2009.
But anyway it doesn’t matter but I was curious if he may have another connection that was interesting. Why does it bother you I asked about info he puts in his public profile, it’s not like I found out something personal and posted it.

Plus, I have his jersey. Haha
Ok, that’s cool, I was hoping for maybe he used to be neighbors to my uncle or something haha
I was in college and one of my roommates was a Redskins fan and he was feeling great about his team. And me and another guy were in his face all week leading up to the game. I think LT had recently done that interview where he said, "I kill quarterbacks on Sundays, so what?"
And then LT just about did kill Joe Theismann. We were watching it together, and while I felt kind of weird and awful for a player writhing on the field, I had to hold back smirking at my friend, I mean, he was really upset.

I was born in the early 80s and have watched nearly every single Giants game from that time on YouTube. That's my favorite era of football.
it was yesterday... I was in 3rd grade, doing HW in the kitchen while the game was on and one of my friends was over... Remember my friend's dads reaction to the injury as I did not see it live!
Only one bar in town had a large screen TV, making it a popular place for MNF.
As the play happened, the bar crowd was, as usual, loud and raucous. Until the closeup replay was shown, then the whole joint went church-silent.
Music is different, its not a visual medium. No one says Babe Ruth is their favorite baseball player
What makes someone a favorite player is having actually watched them play. When I was a kid my favorite players were Seaver, Mendenhall/Kotar, Clyde, Giacomin

Maybe other people have different experiences than you. For example, as a kid, my cousin and I would watch the giants among video about the 86 season every weekend. We had plenty of favorite players from that.
It’s no different than having a favorite actor be somebody from another era.
Is Parcells your favorite coach even though you never saw him coach? It just makes no sense. There's a visceral part of seeing them live and living it each day and year
It's okay to have Strahan or Tiki or Eli be your all time favorite players because that's the era you grew up with

Your way of thinking isn’t the only way of thinking.
You older guys on here are the biggest weirdos. I'd never ridicule someone who was born in 2001 if they told me their favorite player was Michael Jordan.
Also, no, Parcells wasn't coaching the Giants, but he was coaching well after 2001.
I never said there was anything wrong with, and I don’t think there is anything wrong with him being a fan of anyone. I thought is wasn’t very common so I was curious if there was something interesting behind it. I thought maybe he met LT, or his dad was a big fan and there was a connection through that, just something along those lines that might have an interesting back story.
Only on BBI does every little thing become over dramatized

More importantly, why do you care?

Yeah it was awful. And it was so crazy how they just kept replaying it over and over. And I also remember LT being really shook up about it.

Ok. Have fun telling people who they are allowed to be fans of. I’m not gonna pretend to have that authority.
Lol. Bringing up Toney? Get a grip dude.
Can you please take this stupid fucking point you’re trying to argue somewhere else and stop ruining the thread?

Not you. Other guy.
You ain’t alone. It’s a good and healthy obsession in my view. No one usually gets hurt. We just need a reward again.
