Dalvin Tomlinson

CMicks3110 : 11/19/2022 7:52 pm
any interest in re-signing him in the off-season. Maybe a similar contract to what Austin Johnson got. Seems we need depth on the DL and I always loved how stout he was against the run. We should have plenty of cap room and DL seems like a place to build good depth. I was thinking maybe a 3 year 18 million deal?
It's true that the Giants have a lot of cap space

but consider that they need to re-sign Barkley, Jones, Love, and Gates. They might also try to extend Ximines and Moreau who have played surprisingly well this season.

I'm not sure the Giants can afford to bring back Tomlinson with their needs at WR, TE, ILB, S, CB, and DL depth.
Draft a DT

Very good player. I was sorry to see him get away but he is a NT and that is where Lawrence is thriving.

What type though? Dexter Lawrence looks to be a fine NT with Davidson as his backup if he's recovered from his ACL injury by the start of next season. Should the Giants get a 3-tech in the draft to backup Leonard Williams and replace him? Or take the free agency angle like they did with Chris Canty and again with Williams?
Doubt it with what we'll have to pay Dexter
DCPollaro : 11/19/2022 8:46 pm : link
But maybe he'll want to come play for his old DL coach and the team that drafted him
I love dalvin and would welcome him back

And I’m generally not neurotic about spending maras money BUT I would really love to keep Sexy & The Big Cat together for the next few years. We got edges on rookie deals. Probably have to do that with IDL depth to make it work.

Keep pounding in the middle rounds and fill out with vet min guys.
Davidson looked decent in limited early action.
With Dex and LW making big $$,
BigBlueNH : 11/19/2022 10:25 pm : link
we can't afford to sign another IDL to a big contract. Draft another, and hopefully Davidson will be back at some point.

Just have to wait and see how things pan out.

It may be challenging cap wise to sign Dalvin Tomlison, but to write it off completely is stupid.

It all depends on the contract numbers and team priority. I don't expect Tomlinson will get big dollars.

Andre Patterson our DL coach knows him well.

Dalvin has worked well with Dexter and Leonard as a DL group before.

Dex is now established as the NT.....

Can Dalvin play DE in Wink's scheme? If so, then yes.
Dalvin's only position is nose tackle. It's because of this, that

they played Dex at de, which was a waste of his talent.
Tomlinson will miss his third straight game this week.

It's "just" a calf injury, but we know that tune.

Tomlinson has been among the most consistent, reliable, durable DTs in the game. Maybe he will regain that status. On the other hand, he may be starting to wear down.

He'll probably still command starter money. Since he and Lawrence both seem to do their best work on the nose, signing Tomlinson doesn't seem like an optimal use of resources.
They will draft a DT later in the draft

or sign a UDFA - a big body stout against the run. They will still be stingy with the $$ until the existing players on the team are taken care of that they wish to retain.
Dex + Leo
JonC : 11/20/2022 8:20 am : link
their belief in both, and the projected extension costs are a big part of why they let Dalvin go ... roster has a lot of other more pressing needs in 2023.

DT got an 8-digit AAV contract otherwise I’m sure we would have retained him. I haven’t seen him much since then but for us he was excellent against the run and can get pressure.

If his salary is reasonable (I am concerned about future cap space), I’d be all for putting the interior d-line back together.
Dalvin will be 29 next season
JonC : 11/20/2022 8:56 am : link
reasonable is a significant ask as his prime winds down.
