NGT: NYS Public H.S. Football State Quarterfinals Section 1

Two out of five Section One teams advance to the State Semifinals -- Somers and Pleasantville. Not advancing are Carmel (defending State AA Champion), Westlake and Tuckahoe.

Class AA
Newburgh Free Academy 26, Carmel 20 (OT)

Class A
Somers 35, Our Lady of Lourdes 28 (OT)

Class B
Pleasantville 33, Port Jervis 7

Class C
O'Neill 36, Westlake 6

Class D
Moriah 20, Tuckahoe 19

Carmel

had one heck of a two year run. I think they lost 23 or so players from last years team.

Last season Carmel fielded a monster team, and it’s really amazing they did so well this season given all their graduation loses! Incidentally, I’m pretty familiar with Section One / Class AA high school football, and I maintain that last year’s Carmel team was the best I had seen since the 2004 New Rochelle team (with Ray Rice, Courtney Greene, Fred Campbell, Greg McDermott, GlenRoy Lee, et. al.) Perhaps Carmel was even better!

Tuckahoe made a great comeback, converted a 2pt attempt to take the lead and it was called back for an ineligible man downfield. Tuckahoe fans were more than upset, borderline call for sure. LG was blocking at the goal line when the pass was thrown (they ran the Philly Special)
