penalties, turnovers, and special teams. The margin of error is so small with this team that they can’t blow games in those areas and they mostly haven’t all season until today.
But the injuries are the real bad outcome from today. They had one NFL caliber corner and he’s hurt (entirely as a result of coaching stupidity). They had two NFL caliber wide receivers and now one of them is hurt.
Barkley was lifeless. The defense looked beyond slow in the middle of the field.
waiting for the DJ haters to come in and blame him for everything including the missed penaltys on detroit
The game turned on his INT. I mean the giants suck in all areas so any mistake by DJ is going to cost us the game. He has to play perfect for us to even have a chance at winning.
Feel sorry for the rookie getting drafted into this mess.
6-1 flattered us and I'm sure Daboll and Schoen knew that.
I would agree if jones was throwing balls into danger this season and somehow they weren’t getting picked off. He just flat out made 2 bad plays that he’d avoided nearly all season. Gano didn’t regress. He was just awful.
The defense, OTOH, the red zone and third down defense TOTALLY regressed.
waiting for the DJ haters to come in and blame him for everything including the missed penaltys on detroit
No need. DJ didn't lose this game. He just proved what many already knew. He's a game manager that needs a run game, great defense, and close games to be successful. He'd not worth franchise QB money...coaches and front office know it.
I get the frustration, but much of the reaction on the game thread is appalling. Not embarrassing, but appalling.
We are too thin talent wise and now injury wise. This has been a great season considering expectations and what we have. But dreams of playoffs (still possible) and championships are kind of out of bounds this year.
They stuck with Barkley so long. Not sure why but he was definitely running tentatively today. Did not look like the fired up Saquan we have seen the first part of the season. Gates should keep the center spot for the rest of the season. DJ is absolutely a keeper and a player I would build this offense around.
Gates back at Center makes me feel better. Ojulari should be back right after Thanksgiving and should be able to help Thibs.
Think if Ojulari can stay healthy the rest of the season - might really turn pass rush around. Thibs is good and growing. And, they are getting good interior pressure.
Injuries have completely debilitated this roster
Lemieux is not a starting OG just awful in pass protection
Saquon May have been feeling the after effects from last week. He did not run hard at all.
Teams will take away our running attack forcing the Giants to pass the ball in future games by playing 7 or 8 in the box.
Their is absolutely no pass rush on defense without Wink blitzing.
Where was Thibs today?
We have the worst ILB group in the NFL. Opposing OC can pass on our ILB all day if they wanted too
Jones has 8 games left to prove whether he gets another contract with a depleted WR group going forward
We're not that good of a team. We've done amazingly well to win 7 games so far. This team should have zero expectations. We were never going to win every game against all our bad/mediocre opponents.
The injuries are killer though- Wandale is devastating if it's ACL
The WDR is a killer because he may have been organically solving out WR issue.
Major setback considering we couldn't execute a deal for a WR by the trade deadline.
We all knew this conservative offensive gameplan wasn't sustainable.
The blueprint has always been to stop Barkley and make DJ beat you. But Saquons greatness was overshadowing our deficiencies.
Saquon looks to be wearing down (plus that shoulder is messed up) so here we are
Back to the Week 1 question. Can Daniel Jones lead this team with his arm?
This game did nothing to change my opinion on Daniel Jones. I am incredibly neutral on him. It will be very interesting to see what Shoen and Daboll do with him at the end of the season.

Pretty much my thoughts. I hope I don't tar you by association :) I asked on another thread if Thibs was hurt, cause Fox was playing down the stretch. I thought Jones did a good job passing, but those 2 INTs hurt. But he completed a lot of good passes to a mediocre receiving group, even with the wind, from both the pocket and when he was chased from the pocket.
The injuries are a killer; have never seen a team with so many knee injuries. For the amount they invest in these players they have to find a surface better than what they have.
This was the type of game where the margin for error is so small. The refs were shit, but had some mistakes (fumble, pick) that were bad and then the defense missed some key tackles on 3rd down. It wasn’t as bad a game as people are making it out to be (other than the injuries), we’ve just becomes accustomed to mistake free football. It happens, but the Lions are definitely better than people think; explosive offensively and a defense that is starting to play better.
Only bright side today is that we saw Peart and Gates perform admirably given their time off; Lemieux got owned all first half though.
and make the rest of the offense beat you. Pretty simple formula really. Amazing more of our opponents haven't been able to pull it off.
This is where they need to run DJ more. D’s are going all out to stop Saquon and every time DJ kept it, he was successful. Keep doing it and eventually they’ll shift to stopping SJ and then Saquon makes them pay
Lions executed the formula- stop Barkley and make the passing game beat you. Expect Dallas to do the same.
Giants now need to adjust.
This is basically how Dallas beat us last time. They laid out the blueprint pretty early.
Disagree completely on both points.
Giants ran for 167 yards against Dallas, the most the Cowpokes allowed the first 7 weeks of the season. They lost that game because they couldn’t pass protect AT ALL and didn’t use Barkley more.
Today, the Giants run blocking was atrocious. The Lions weren’t even loading up. The Giants just couldn’t make one on one blocks. Jones was actually pretty good outside of the picks… I know, I know. A real “Aside from that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln” situation.
waiting for the DJ haters to come in and blame him for everything including the missed penaltys on detroit

Your take never changes but, by your own words, Barkley isn't worth it either. In today's NFL backs can be had anywhere and we need to use all available $'s upgrading full roster. Barkley played like dogshit today .
But, I am not writing off this season yet. Neal should be back. Bellinger may be back. Gates may now be back at OC, so the OL and blocking should improve beginning Thursday. Today aside, we still have one of the top 5 RB in the league. We've had no WRs all year, so at least this week is no different.
The schedule is tough, but not impossible to pick up 2-3 wins, which should mean playoffs.
was absolutely destroying Lemieux, and to some extent Feliciano. Aside from Thomas, the OL is journeymen and an unproven rookie. Jones was running for his life most of the time.
Teams know that the way to beat the Giants is to simply stack the LOS to stop Barkley. They know we basically have next to nothing in the passing game, and now don't even have that given Robinson's injury.
On defense, McFadden was poor IMO, and our LBs can't cover anyone. We were consistently burned on underneath passes, especially on third and long. Even though the Lions have a good OL, Goff had way too much time to throw.
Run for 50and pass for 340+ with this shit? Maybe Allen or Jackson. That’s it.
You left out a key stat there. Not blaming Jones for this loss, but he did throw two picks right?
He threw 2 picks...one on an amazing play by a stud defender and the other was air mailed on 4th down.
He was the only guy that showed up on offense. I'll give Breida honorable mention
"except for the picks"? The first, in my opinion, was the turning point in the game. To that point, we were controlling the time of possession and outgaining the Lions. That pick set the Lions up with a short field and allowed them to take the lead.
I don't view the 2nd pick as a throw away, as many did. I don't want to hear it was 4th, it's as good as a pick. They were looking to score there. He had a receiver and completely missed him.
But the injuries are the real bad outcome from today. They had one NFL caliber corner and he’s hurt (entirely as a result of coaching stupidity). They had two NFL caliber wide receivers and now one of them is hurt.

We stink.
Embarrassed at home by shit Detroit and now to add to the shortest major injuries to key guys
Robinson man second rounder is looking like a huge wasted second rounder dudes been hurt more than healthy and now his season over….
He gets hurt every game
Grammar is good, dude. It doesn't take that much effort for basic competence, seriously...
Move onto Dallas. It'll be tough, but any given Sunday. Or Thursday in this case.
No need. DJ didn't lose this game. He just proved what many already knew. He's a game manager that needs a run game, great defense, and close games to be successful. He'd not worth franchise QB money...coaches and front office know it.
Everyone needs to relax and look long term

Giants fans have become the most toxic and delusional fans in the NFL
no just the BBI fans have been. I know Giants fans who done glue themselves to websites during the game and they seem much more rational
I truly believe half of this board spends more time posting then watching the game.
This board has been in serious decline for several years or more, now.
Houston tried but couldn't stop the pass.

I didn’t think it affected the Giants at all outside of that one fourth down throw by Jones that stayed in the air for three weeks.
Lemieux is not a starting OG just awful in pass protection

Said this after his 3rd Carry he looked slow, cold, & tired
I don't see him as even good depth right now.

Peart was okay pass blocking. Don't think anyone was good run blocking.

Whether he's good enough to run a high powered offense is unknown. We simply don't have a high powered offense for him to run.
Lemieux is not a starting OG just awful in pass protection

That false start may have been on Gates. It looked like the whole OL moved except for him.
