After cooling off from a frustrating loss, I thought he played pretty well. The first pick was a great play by Hutchinson. He got Rodgers a few weeks back too. The 2nd pick was bad, but that’ll happen.
I saw Jones make a lot of good throws to WR’s off the street. He stepped up and made some good throws on 3rd down.
It’s hard for me to watch this game and not point out how horrific the WR group is. He’s got no one to throw to.
The Giants won’t go anywhere if they can’t score points by pushing the ball down the field through the air, but Jones tried to do his part today despite the two INT’s.
Also, games turn on plays. The Giants were up 6-3 and should have gotten off the field on the screen by Detroit. He’s not touched and extends the drive. Just a back breaking play and things could have turned differently if he’s tackled there.
Lastly, the Giants are 7-3. That’s still a huge success. Going to be a tough final 7 games, but we all would have signed for this.
Daboll is going to have to open things up vs some of the quality opponents in upcoming weeks. We will find out if Jones can toss for 250+ yards with reasonable amounts of turnovers. This is when the rubber hits the road.
They about to go into Dallas without McKinney, AJax, potentially Moreau, Bellinger, maybe Neal, probably Ojulari.
It sucks
The second pick is not excused away by being 4th down. They were looking for points there, not field position. He had an open receiver and missed him badly. That was a big opportunity for points missed out on.

It's hard to throw for 250+ yards without turnovers when your OL can't pass block for shit.
I still am supportive of Jones and coming back next year. But it is really a huge game coming on Turkey day for Jones and the Giants now and one that might shape rest of year and whether Jones and Giants go in same direction next year.
Giants are going against some really stout attacking defenses rest of the year. It could get ugly at times unless Jones can pull some tricks and MVP caliber play out.

To me the turning points were the D not getting off the field on 3rd & long... several times they had perfect play calls in and didn't execute...Jones may have thrown the picks but he didn't let them waltz up & down the field all game
He doesn't have a problem with crossing patterns and post patterns.
It's as if he is having trouble with the touch passes down the field.
I don't recall this being an issue in previous years.

You should rewatch the game film if you think that AD was in the line of the throw when the ball was being released. He drifted back and made a phenomal play on the ball
On the second pick... they were out of FG range. It wasnt a matter of 3 pts that were cost. the bigger issue on the pick was the DB returned it for a lot of yards. I respect him for trying to make a play... There was not another throw to be made there. He took his shot, which is what pro qb's are taught to do
This was probably dj's second best game this year regardless of what a stat sheet said. And he kept the team in the game until his receiver fumbled a ball when the giants were only down 12 and driving

I don't like the excuses for either. Yes, it was a good play by Hutchinson. Jones and the Giants may not have expected him to drop into coverage there, but that doesn't excuse the poor read and throw. He was a defender in his direct line of sight to his intended receiver. How about don't make that throw? Up until that pick the Giants were outgaining the Lions and controlling the time of possession. That was a huge turning point in the game, giving Detroit a short field for the lead.

The 2nd INT was a good read; just a bad throw.
This game was not about Jones doing nothing. It was about Barkley doing nothing. And the defense doing nothing. Jones actually did something
I agree too. Lots of good, tough passes, still threw over 340 yds and 61% completions, and ran for another 50 yds. I was more impressed with him today than during a lot of the wins

Ranked 32 in points, 32 in yards, 27 in passing yards, 26 in passing td, and 21 in picks. And this for shit defense obviously didn't care how often Jones hoisted it up in garbage time. He did nothing until the game was out of reach and not a whole lot to concern the opposition afterward. Watch how the opposition plays our offense. Do they seem concerned about Jones to you? Do you guys need to be hit over the head?

and the OL doing nothing, especially in run blocking
Pretty sure Giants have their quarterback for next season and beyond. He continues to out perform what the talent surrounding him would dictate, just like last season.
The margin for error with this team is so small. A mistake like the first INT just derails it. All QBs throw interceptions, it just that the talent on this team can’t afford that.
Overall, it’s about wins and losses for me, not stats. In that regard, it wasn’t a great day.
Overall, I don’t really think the evaluation is about him. O line was terrible, Saquon was completely bottled up, and our defense generally stunk. Daniel Jones was responsible for almost 400 yards and two touchdowns. Once again, with a high school caliber receiving core… Though Robinson looked great until he got hurt.
Like many here, I’d be OK just looking past a bad loss, but with all of these injuries, we are going to have a tough time down the stretch of the season.
If Saquon is beat down from his workload, DJ is gonna have to be the guy to lead this team. Dallas and Philly will score points on this defense. If DJ wants to be paid, time to show what so many on here think he's capable of.
This game had a different flavor because it was the 1st game that wasn't tight and we had to open it up. If we keep it tight, he can be the conservative caretaker who doesn't lose the game. When you have to open it up, it's more of a mixed bag.
Today the defense was worse than normal. We actually made a mistake on O. (I'm not going to kill him for that because he's been low mistakes all year). So we lost. When the D shuts down the opponents, or they shoot themselves in the foot, we can win close games against mediocre teams. If those conditions aren't met, Jones is not the guy to make a difference. He is who he is. He played totally fine for his level.
DJ is at his best when he’s rolling out of the pocket. He does not move around in the pocket well at all but once he’s out he buys a lot of extra time and he’s actually very good at throwing on the run.
That said, I don’t think he played well in the second quarter for the first half of the third quarter but after they abandoned trying to get Barkley going and let Jones throw the ball, I thought he did well. Kept his eyes on the field rather than the rush. Scrambled or ran when it was opportune

I think your bias towards Jones is coming through here, Joe. There is no evidence of this. If they were sold on Jones already, they would have engaged in contract discussions during the bye week.
If the Giants miss the playoffs, I don’t think Jones is back. He might not be regardless. We’ll see.

Sean I was replying to Essex ridiculous comment about how a run on 3 rd down shows what they think of Jones. Speaking what he doesn’t know with such certainty. I responded in kind
I understand they haven’t decided about Daniel yet. I also understand that his years prior to them being here were not impressive enough for them to resign him.
It s probably best it I stop responding to obtuse comments about Jones with obtuse reply’s, not fun anymore.
The tone of this place after a loss is pathetic. Hard to relate to that nonsense if you re a person that fights back from defeats, and doesn’t get discouraged easily.
Makes me fiesty.

What I saw was a guy who can take what the defense gives him. He is a fantastic runner and has they physical talent to be an NFL QB. But this passing game has been sluggish all year and it was clear the coaches wanted to stay with the run even when they were behind late in the 3rd Qtr. The WRs are a big part of that. The QB is also part of that.
I don’t see how you can re-sign this guy to anything other than a short term bridge deal without going into next year saying “OK, now no more excuses THIS year!”
Jones was bad today
Jones was bad today
Surprising take.

He is also there to make plays. We had 6 points into the 4th Q. Sorry that's on the QB as much as anybody.
Jones was bad today

Doesn't make it any less true. Jones was average, at best, for 3 quarters, couldn't pick up the slack with SB struggling, and QBed his team to an insurmountable deficit, with 2 picks. He played well when the game was over and Detroit was playing mostly prevent.
This thread is just like after the Seahawks loss. DJ had 87 yards passing through 3 quarters (87 in 3 quarters!?!?)...and of course, there was a thread saying DJ shared no blame in that loss.
Today wasn't all on DJ...but he didn't play well, and definitely contributed to the loss.
I think he's going to get paid, unless he falls apart down the stretch. It is still questionable if he's worth it.
Each game, after the W-L result, is an evaluation of whether or not Jones is worthy of signing to the big contract. From the cheap seats, I think this game goes in the yes column. It absolutely goes in the somebody is going to pay him column. I'm less inclined to be dazzled by good game manager outings where he didn't throw a pick. I don't want a high priced game manager.
I don’t think we can have next year be year 3 of “No excuses. This is his make or break year.”

And the first pick was a great play by Hutchinson. But, Hutchinson is also a big DE who was completely in Jones' line of sight for the intended receiver before he threw. You know what that means? Don't make that throw.

Ball security has been much improved. But, the flip side is yesterday was the first time we really had to throw to win and I don't think it is a coincidence it is the first multiple INT game for Jones. When people here have mentioned "putting the team on his back" this is the type of game being referenced. He has had a huge impact with his legs, but at some point a #6 pick and $30M+ QB has to be able to pass a team to victory. That is regardless of the receivers on hand.
It's amazing how other QBs who have lost their receivers get written off as having aged or declined, but with Jones it's always a ready made excuse as to why he isn't better. As I said, I like him and I do think he has played a big part in the great start. But, I'm also not seeing a guy who is going to take the team to another level or have us consistently playing atop the division.
The intended receiver on the 2nd pick was open. He missed him badly. I don't care about 4th down, on the run, etc. This was a chance for a big play that was missed.

Jones did miss Cager badly on the 4th and 5 play. He totally airmailed it. WDR was also open on the shallow cross. He was short of the first down line, but I think he could have beaten the LB who was assigned to him. Again, poor play by Jones.
Hutch made a great play. The other team gets paid, too, and I think we need to give credit where credit is due there. That was just an unusual coverage by the Lions that I would have to know how often they drop Hutch to see if that is a pattern Jones should have seen.

Guys have bad games and Jones was a little off, but I like how he ran the offense and more than ever before he was reading the defense at the line and went through his progressions post snap. He's still not there yet, but I saw signs that they are bringing him along, albeit slowly.
He's still holding the ball too long and not seeing everything, but I thought yesterday was a step in the right direction for his development.

C'mon Kmed, this is Jones' 4th year. "A step in the right direction for his development" is something to get excited about in year 1 and possibly year 2. It's not too inspiring in year 4.

You were doing so well there, right up until "just like last season."
Are you trying to gaslight the board with that, or do you genuinely believe that DJ overperformed last season? Schoen and Daboll declined DJ's option coming off of last season, so at a minimum I can tell you that they disagree with you about "just like last season."

Yeah, you aren't wrong, but you can make a case that the personnel around Jones stunted his growth a bit, plus everyone develops at a different pace.
