The guy was leading the league in rushing Monday morning, today he sucks? Did he forget how to run? What do you want him to do, put his head down and plow in the OL players butt or defenders stomach. He has to try to find a space, which means "tippy toe" to you
Was so bad, it really looked like the lions had 20 players…..wtf with how bad the interior line play was…they got pushed around as if they were filled with helium!
He was the leading rusher in the NFL going into the game and had 1 bad game thanks to a porous OL where he was hit at or behind the LOS every run. But, Jones gets a pass every week because of the OL or receivers or both.
The guy is one week removed from a game in which he had THIRTY FIVE carries and has another game to play in 4 days! In addition, his OL was dominated by the Detroit D. What did you expect from him? He is not a damn machine. Do you think he somehow forgot how to play the position in a week? Come on...
but I think it is fair to wonder if he is in fact wearing down a bit.
A reasonable answer. Why do a lot on here take offense to what seems like a legit question? You can't say Barkley wasn't dancing a bit more behind the line yesterday than he has in previous games. Now I believe like LoS and Beck above said, the blocking was for crap, which is a bad sign as 'The Great Lemieux' was back and his forte is run blocking. If i look at the season as a whole, I have to believe SB was back there trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. As long as he made it through that horrendous game uninjured I'm ok with him dancing in this instance. But Breida DID have a couple of nice carries. Could have been the play calls, could have been the blocking on those particular plays was decent or could be he's not nursing a BUM shoulder. Either way the run game as a whole was off and that has been our key to success this season.
I think he was just tired. I don't think any RB comes off of a 35 carry game and looks the same. In fact, there's a stat that says that any RB who gets 40 carries in a game literally is never, ever the same again.
when a defender is waiting for you when you get a handoff. Lions game planned to stop SB and it showed, so Daboll is going to have to scheme ways to get him the ball in space. I have no doubt he will.

We also need some receivers to step up. It's very easy to for even the poor run defenses we've played recently to stop the run when they don't fear the receivers.
Your getting trashed for stating the obvious, was he tiered from the week before? Is his shoulder hurt. maybe? He had zero support, no holes whatsoever. With that said he surrendered in the backfield many times when he could have pushed the pile for a 2 yard gain as opposed to a 2 yard loss. I did not like what I saw from him this week and very concerned he is falling back to they famous line that Mike Mayock said about him coming out of collage, "Legs go dead on contact." We did not lose the game because of Barkley but I do think it's fair game to question they way he played yesterday.

I didn't see any dancing. I saw him met at or behind the LoS every run. It may be fair to ask if he was tired from the previous game, but stop with the dancing. How does almost every RB look when getting hit immediately after getting the rock?
of their minds. Barkley up to yesterday was the leading rusher in the NFL!
According to next Gen stats Barkley faced an 8 man box ONE out of 15 carries.
This is on the coaching staff. First, he has been given far tooany carries so far and the 35 touches may have wrecked him for the rest of the season. Second starting Lemieux was a complete and total disaster.
So Barkley will always face 8-9 in the box. Some weeks our opponent will stop the run and we'll need DJ to carry the load. Just like the Seahawk game, that didn't happen week.

That said...he was tentative and tired.
Giants played a lot of 11 personnel yesterday so a 7 man box is a still a stacked box on those plays.
Even so, NYG aren't bringing him back next year so they're going to run him till the wheels fall off. He is not a great volume back. His lowest yards per attempt this year come from games where he has 20+ carries. He isn't and never was a workhorse back - despite his size. This staff treat him like that though and it's not to his advantage. Talking about injuries biting this team, I would be careful with the rate we run him up the gut right now.

disagree on the carries, agree on Lemieux. I've been saying all along that he stinks. Weak at the point of attack.

Why do your friends change their minds every second?

So, you disagree. (Quite strongly I might say)

No, no thought, no facts allowed.
