I'm pulling a Fassel: this team is going to the postseason.

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 11/21/2022 6:44 pm
Yeah, things look bleak: bad loss to Detroit, injuries piling up, & a tough schedule on the horizon. I'm not disputing those facts.

But here's what I think: we're going to get reinforcement in Neal, Bellinger, Azeez, & the X-Man back soon. Getting Neal & Bellinger back will be big for the offense. No offense to Phillips or Peart, but Neal is superior to both. And Bellinger was one of our biggest weapons on offense before he got injured. The Xavier absence can't be understated; he wasn't having a 2021 like season, but he's an integral cog of our defense. No offense to Belton-who is a rookie-but that's quite a gap between the two. I guess the big ? is Azeez, but one can hope he returns & makes a difference down the stretch.

Also, I'm confident in this coaching staff putting these men in a position to succeed. This is a top notch coaching staff that is doing a helluva job considering the talent-or lack thereof-on this roster. We've been in each game; even vs. the Lions, the game wasn't over until Hodgins fumble.

We got 7 games left. Thanksgiving is going to be tough, but Dallas is a weird team & perhaps due for a letdown after that beating vs. the Vikes. The Eagles have come back to Earth these last two weeks. WFT is coming on, but I'm not sold on their QB & we ALWAYS seem to have their #. The Vikes are similar to us in that they usually play close games & I expect the same when they play us. The Colts are playing hard for Saturday now, but I don't know if that'll still be the case on New Year's Day.

I think we 2-2 in our 4 vs. Philly & WFT & beat the Colts to finish 10-7 & snag a WC spot.

I refuse to wave the white flag on this season that has brought a lot of fun. Fuck it. All in. Go Giants!
I agree. I feel like things are different this year

And Jones is going to drag this team through to the postseason. I think getting the Colts in the cold should be a win. I have a hard time seeing Washington win both against us. And philly is showing signs of cracks.
Good post

I agree. Funny that Fassel’s speech was after a Detroit loss at home in 2000.

Let’s all take a deep breath. The Lions beat the Giants playing their game. Giants lost the turnover battle 3-0, that was the difference.

The whining for a 7-3 team that has been such a great story is insufferable.

Just kidding SF, I love you man.

You can't pull a Fassel

He was the HC and as such, he had influence.

Let's go!

The NFL is week to week. Odds have been against us all year why stop now.
I don't know why, but I have a good feeling
Matt M. : 11/21/2022 7:06 pm : link
about Thurs. This is assuming both Neal and Belinger return and Gates starts at OC. We still are the inferior team, but I have a feeling there's a miracle waiting for us.

If Jones can actually do what you expect him to do we'll know we have our quarterback.

Love there was just as much ridicule after their loss to Green Bay a team not exactly playing well.

I think the Vikings game was a perfect storm for the Boys- they were pissed off and embarrassed and Minnesota was coming off two straight emotionally draining wins, including the improbable OT win over Buffalo.
You're pulling a Fassel?
David B. : 11/21/2022 7:55 pm : link
BFD. Everyone on the Giants (who's not out with a knee already) is pulling a hamstring.
The news blackout on Ojulari and McKinney makes me wonder if they will

Be back this year.
Sign me up for 2 more wins now
Bryanjints : 11/21/2022 8:14 pm : link
This team has serious heart and the coaching staff is championship caliber for sure. But the Giants seem cursed as it comes to injuries. Can't start half the team as practice squad players and expect to win more than a game or 2. The thing is other teams are getting healthy too. Colts seemed like an easy win but Saturday has them looking like we're going to have to earn that one.
As much as we want them to,
prdave73 : 11/21/2022 8:15 pm : link
I think it’s best they don’t. They really need to put themselves in a position to get more talent on this team. They are not ready yet. DG and this Org has put this team back behind for years.

Chance you're proven correct

Appreciate the post though, refreshing and a welcomed change from yesterday and today when some took this site to a new low in defeatism
To truly pull a Fassel the stakes must be equal

If Fassel didn't deliver the owner was going to show him the door. Eric, can you accommodate this man's wager?

playoffs?!
Hope you're right.
Since1965 : 11/21/2022 10:24 pm : link
I'm seeing 1 - 2 more wins unless they can start scoring some quick points when necessary.
9-8 will likely get them in the playoffs
Milton : 11/21/2022 11:32 pm : link
So the odds are still in their favor. The question is more about how far they will get in the playoffs. Hard to see how they accomplish that. Maybe the OL will get healthy and come together and the Giants can win by controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and winning the turnover battle. That's the only formula that gives them a chance as I see it.
Philly is far superior to Giants
giantstock : 11/21/2022 11:38 pm : link
For anyone thinking split-- I highlight doubt it. Unless the last game vs Philly they choose to rest their team expect 0-2 vs them. Them coming down to Earth is sort of laughable. Yeah they aren't "dominant" but they are a very, very good football team. So what they came back down a bit. They are still very, very good.

I expect we're going 1-5 in the Division the rest of the way unless as stated lats game is irrelevant for them.

So it comes down to Minny and Indy.

IMO 50-50 with them and Wash.

The only chance the Giants have of winning a playoff game is to get matched up against Tampa/ATL winner.
here is my hot take ,,lol

The issue is our skill position injuries
Rjanyg : 11/22/2022 7:17 am : link
However, if we can get Neal, Bellinger and Ojulari back and find a way to get Saquon more involved in the passing game we can compete
I was pretty confident before Sunday
Giants86 : 11/22/2022 7:51 am : link
Now I am not so sure?
Our secondary a mess, no WRs. Too many injuries.

It would be great to make the playoffs. My confidence level after Sunday has taken a massive hit.

As for the Thanksgiving game, Id'be absolutely stunned if we are even close.
Playoffs?
floridafan : 11/22/2022 8:35 am : link
On offense, you have Jones, Barkley , Thomas.
The line other than Thomas is a mess although Neal and Ezuedu are showing improvement.
No wide receiver would be better than 3rd string on another team. Tight end is a total mess wothout Bellinger. Is there a softer blocker in the NFL than Tanner Hudson?
The defense consists of two good to great tackles a rookie edge who has not had great success and Julian Love.
Ojulari may come back.....everybody else is a castoff or a rookie (Dane Belton).
Special teams are not special.
There is a better chance this teams goes winless than there is of winning two games.
I am greatfull for the 7 wins and for the fact it is almost December and I am not looking at mock drafts.
The coaching staff seems to be in place and there seems to be some talent to build on.
Face it, they just ran out of guys.
There's a real chance by EOD Sunday the Giants won't be
Mike in Long Beach : 11/22/2022 9:23 am : link
holding a playoff spot.

Beating the Commanders is absolutely everything. Perhaps even sweeping them is necessary.
Mind you
Mike in Long Beach : 11/22/2022 9:24 am : link
with the 49ers on an absolute roll, they're probably heading to a division title. That leaves us to spar with Seattle for a playoff spot along with Washington, and we lose the tiebreaker with Seattle.

The road got extremely difficult this past weekend when it was looking like a "win-and-nearly-in" scenario.
Yeah we probably will
Jerry in_DC : 11/22/2022 9:26 am : link
The NFC is so bad and we've still got a nice record. We probably just have to win 2 of our remaining games.

Unless they are both against Washington... take a look at the Skins schedule. Giants need to sweep Washington or get to 10 realistically.

I think the second half is going to be a lot tougher than what we've seen. I'm seeing 10-7 at this point - which should still be good enough.
Fassels' team had chips to push in....
Kev in Cali : 11/23/2022 12:10 am : link
This team doesn't have any left.
Not a very big limb...
GMen72 : 11/23/2022 12:32 am : link
At 7-3...it would be hard not to make it. 10 wins should get in...if the Giants can't go 3-4, probably don't deserve it.
