Last time Giants wide receiver

M.S. : 11/22/2022 8:57 am

caught a ball this season going up-field, directly away from the QB?

Honestly, I can't recall anything but receptions on crossing patterns. And the last vertical catch I seem to remember is from Game One when Sterling Shepard faked a Titans CB and burned him for six.

Anyone have a distinct memory of something a little later? Who, and what game?

32 yard TD pass to Slayton. Happened right in front of me.

a back shoulder catch going down the right sideline against Detroit. When you have receivers who body catch it's hard to throw the passes you're talking about. That seems to be when Slayton has his trouble with drops. Who else is going to get open on a deep pattern?

we take 0 deep shots, we dont attack the seams either.

DJ is a good deep ball thrower too, Kafka's play calling and game planning since Seattle has been abysmal.

a vertical passing game

well on the Giants, it's almost non-existent.

When compiling wins earlier in the season, I noticed it as well and thought "The vertical passing game is overrated."

However it's an aspect of the game that needs to exist, or at least your ability to threaten a vertical passing game.

In a season of attrition every shortcoming seems to gt magnified. The more games that are compiled and get on tape, the more offensive coordinators are going to start to realize how to attack you.

I think the effort by OC's earlier in the year to play the Giants effectively for the most part failed, but now they are starting to succeed. I am not sure what they figured out but it seems to be working....perhaps a cumulative effect thing, like spy DJ on first down but stack the line, 8 in the box, so if it goes to Barkley the gain is minimized. Look out for crossing routes on second down, and defend with LB'ers as they have no vertical game. Blitz on 3rd and long or stack the box again on 3rd and short........BINGO, you've beaten the Giants
You know what else I can't remember?

the last time our offense executed a successful screen pass.

I find our lack of execution there very strange. It seems a staple of most teams.

We also cannot defend against them well. It is one of the most frustrating times during a game when a team converts on a 3rd and 13 against us with a screen pass.
They don't protect long enough

for a vertical passing attack. I thought Saquon would catch a ton of balls in the offense as well. But my guess is they keep him in to protect more often than sending him out on routes.
