McKinney injury changed the season and vibe

That’s Gold, Jerry : 11/22/2022 11:14 am
around this team. I am sure this has been discussed already and I don’t want to get into the stupidity of it all but injuries of this nature are unforced errors. To me, it was incredibly dumb and immature of McKinney, a guy I still love but a guy who probably cost himself a Pro Bowl spot and maybe his captaincy as a result.

Not sure about anyone else but I’ve had a negative feeling ever since. Now, I’m just hoping we continue to build towards the future. If we make the playoffs, great, but I really can’t say if we will win any more games going forward.

I hope we play Dallas hard and steal one but I’m fearful of a blowout. The best thing we may have going in is Dallas’ arrogance, always on display.

At any rate, I’m going to enjoy how far we’ve come, hope we can steal a couple of wins. Who knows if we make the playoffs, get Adoree back along with Azeez, Neal and Lemieux/Gates get healthy and better with playing time, that would be great. I definitely expect to see Nick start at center Thursday and Shane with a rebound game. Hopeful Evan can play also.

Cheers all and Happy Thanksgiving, in advance!
He's the most important piece and player

to Wink's D and scheme.

In the entire league.

i agree with that statement
I do like some of the talent on the depth chart
Matt M. : 11/22/2022 11:24 am : link
But, there is a big difference between Belton starting vs. him getting a fraction of the snaps as an extra DB.

McKinney and Love were becoming one of the top 2 or 3 S duos in the league. They fed off each other, were interchangeable in terms of FS/SS, on the line/back deep, etc. And Love has also been less effective without McKinney; still good, but not outstanding. We need him back.
I agree in that McKinney’s injury
Chris684 : 11/22/2022 11:33 am : link
was the first bad vibe that came over this team once the year started off hot.

To lose a player if McKinney’s stature over the fuckin BYE week when we should have been getting healthier was a huge blow.
Could McKinney Be Back For Eagles Game on Dec. 11?

the four key guys making it all work were Lawrence, Williams, Love and X. It was a huge loss.

I think some details have been omitted about the injury and the nature of it. He isn't just in a cast; it's not a simple broken arm like was initially reported. He seems to have really damaged his fingers. It may not be the type of injury they can just overly bandage with a club like cast and play him.

McKinney and Love as kind of a "duct tape" to fix a lot of the holes on this defense. LB's cant cover, move one of them in the box to match up with the TE. Aren't getting a good pass rush, let one blitz from the slot. I can go on...

McKinney's injury is basically akin to Wink being short a roll of duct tape that he needed to patch the ship's hull.
I would switch things up and try a Pete Carroll
Spiciest Memelord : 11/22/2022 11:55 am : link
Cover 1/Cover 3 defense with Love holding the fort at FS and Collins as the Chancellor robber/buzz.

Not many truly grasp the intricate nature of hand/finger surgery, especially as it relates to repairing tendons, nerves, ligaments, etc., if the goal is to restore/maintain function... it's very sensitive.

Ronnie Lott is a poor comparison to what McKinney did to himself.
One of those persistent paradigms...
BamaBlue : 11/22/2022 12:23 pm : link
is how fragile the Giants are when faced with adversity. Team chemistry is an important fact, but it's transitory. A team doesn't go into clinical depression when something bad happens. It seems Giants fans have a broad brush and paint adversity as a major reason the team is under performing.

This is a team that's improving, but not yet consistent. They can as easily win a game, or lose it on any given Sunday. I think we read too much into the fragility of this team and don't focus on the obvious thing. We have a bunch of well-coached second teamers who are over-achieving...
I don't know
46and2Blue : 11/22/2022 12:26 pm : link
about that Mckinney is a big piece but it feels like compounding of injury after injury, like the team can't catch a break. I think that is more the vibe tan the loss of even a budding superstar like Mckinney

Is completely unfair. McKinney, while a very good player, isn’t an Ed Reed DPOY type player. His injury sucks, but we have capable guys behind him. The defense won’t collapse, just because McKinney isn’t there.

And yet the defense hasn't looked as good since he got hurt.

Who is behind him? A rookie.

Teams have dealt with worse injuries than McKinney but it's a huge loss.
It is a coincidence...

and nothing more. We are losing the battle in the trenches. McKinney does not line up with his hand in the dirt
Trade Deadline
monstercoo : 11/22/2022 2:11 pm : link
I feel like the trade deadline also was a morale killer. Between trading Toney and not signing another WR was like throwing in the towel for 2022. Good teams were getting better at the deadline and we got worse.

he and a Love covered a lot of ground together intelligently, and also helped cover up the Ds biggest problem: The LBs suck, especially in pass coverage.

Without him and now Adoree….we won’t be able to continue to make Wink famous.

mistake like he made. I'm not expecting these guys to be perfect, but breaking your hand on the Bye week? Come on. Absolutely embarrassing. You don't see any players from anyother teams out there doing this. Only the Giants.

No one is saying he's as good as Ed Reed - the point is that he's the NYG's version of Reed; ie, an indispensable piece of the defense that has huge ramifications when he's out...

How did we get worse? We didn't trade anyone who played for the Giants.
X last played in Seattle..

where we lost.

In the first game without X, we beat the Texans. Held them to 16.

Sunday was the first loss without X. So, I'm very reluctant to say this is a backbreaking loss. And I am huge fan of X.

I have a bad feeling this is by design; linebackers under Wink typically aren't good in pass coverage... or they're replaced with safeties/cornerbacks.
There are still...
Brown_Hornet : 11/22/2022 9:58 pm : link
...several weeks left.
The air that goes out of the balloon can refill all at once.

When a key player goes down the team has to compensate by being a bit more efficient at their job...not at "covering" the hole.

The Giants need a few guys to step up their play in order to make this more than an exciting let down.

We need guys that have been playing, to step up. The losses in the secondary need to elevate the play of the pass rushers.

We can only expect so much from guys that we know are going to be second stringers in the future.

The Giants DL needs to be the difference against Dallas.

No he isn’t but scheme was and talent wise he was integral. Add Jackson out now and it’s a mess.
