People need to calm down

Dukie Dimes : 11/25/2022 1:04 am
People are upset because this was a game that the giants could have won. I get it. But they did very well against a more talented team (much of the talent difference is due to giant injuries).

I believe that the giants will go at least 3-3 in the remaining six games. They’ll beat Washington, Indianapolis, and either Washington again or score an upset in one of the Philly games or against the Vikings.

The season has been very good and the giants will likely go to the playoffs when the injured players come back (staring next weekend).

I was pleased with the performance today. I think that things are about to take a turn for the better as players come back.

Losses happen. Take them in the context of the whole season. Don’t overreact and lose all hope.
Agree
Scuzzlebutt : 11/25/2022 1:11 am : link
Not sure we go 3-3, but I expected a brutal loss today and pleasantly surprised they hung in there for a while. They might have won if not for a few brutal calls and a failed 4th down conversion they should have converted.

This is a fair assessment. It’s a long season with many ups and downs. Teams win and lose a bunch along the way. Stay patient and look at the bigger picture.
Agreed
gersh : 11/25/2022 2:36 am : link
Anyone who expected to win today was being unrealistic.
7-2 was an incredible feat with this roster and first year staff.
Making the playoffs would still make this a hugely successful season, but in my book, it’s already much much better than expected

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We get it. The same lecture on tempering expectations and how if you had any confidence the Giants would win, you're from outer space.

All of this ... after the game ... of course.
The game
Les in TO : 11/25/2022 5:39 am : link
Went exactly as I thought it would. Giants would hang for three quarters until the less injured/talented cowboys team pulled away. Yesterday was another reminder of why we made the right cal sending Gettleman out to pasture (drafting a noodnik like Toney over Parsons). We have the right GM and HC it’s now about filling the talent gap.
A realistic goal was that they be competitive
RCPhoenix : 11/25/2022 5:41 am : link
And they’ve achieved that in every game so far.

I do hope that Schoen & Daboll take a serious look at what teams do that are consistenly on the lower end of injuries. And that they have input into whatever new turf is going onto the field next year.
When you lose the turnover battle
Gman11 : 11/25/2022 7:29 am : link
and the penalty battle you can't be expected to win in this league. Oh wait. That was the Cowboys and they won handily. Never mind.
...
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 11/25/2022 7:30 am : link
Dallas is a much, much more talented team than us. Factor in the injuries...losing sucks, but context is important.
This was a game that could have easily gotten away from them
BillT : 11/25/2022 7:35 am : link
We saw that the first time. They played well. Undermanned, they outplayed their talent. All you can ask.

True but Dallas is still more talented than us even before all the injuries.
Agree people need to calm down.
mittenedman : 11/25/2022 8:08 am : link
There are realities to being as injured as the Giants are. The Giants were never winning this game. They kept it close for a while and showed good fight.

There are seasons within seasons. This was the stretch where they were uncompetitive due to a ridiculous injury situation.

The Giants have a new season at 7-4, with 10 days rest, getting several key players back - and possibly OBJ at WR if they feel like it.

Stay the course, play it out. I want Playoffs as the barometer, and evaluations after a full 17 games.

You expected to win that game?
People should calm down
joeinpa : 11/25/2022 8:12 am : link
Do you read BBI, that ain’t happening.

But I agree there’s many important games coming up, should be fun.

Unfortunately, mostly because of injuries, Giants are at their most vulnerable place of the season, loss of McKinney and Jackson really hurt.

But hopefully they get some guys back, and get this thing back on track.
We need our offensive line back
Tuckrule : 11/25/2022 8:20 am : link
Missing Bredeson and neal really hurt. I thought Gates played a good game. We get those guys back it’ll really jump start the run game.

Yeah, having 10 of 22 starters out doesn't override everything else. Jack Thompson was playing left guard - fourth or fifth string. The unrealistic expectation of some for a team most here expected to win 4 or 5 games, before the injuries, is hilarious.

Here’s my post before the game

Anyone who is a fan of this team
gersh : 11/24/2022 1:18 pm : link : reply
Has known a lot of frustrating and heart ache
Being realistic about today is the only way to protect ourselves
Unbridled enthusiasm is great, if that’s your thing.
I’m overjoyed at what this team has done and am extremely optimistic about the future….but not today
It's amazing how "talented"
LakeGeorgeGiant : 11/25/2022 10:09 am : link
the Cowboys have been for the past 20 years without winning shit.

I think this was a game they couldve won, like the Seattle game. Giants were ass on 3rd down ... BOTH sides of the ball. Like Livia Soprano, the broken record, I'm going to say it again!

This team doesn't score enough fucking points.
Injuries have done this team in the past 4 weeks....
Simms11 : 11/25/2022 10:35 am : link
There’s not enough quality depth either. It’s currently a very thin roster. There’s a bunch of very good starters, but as they go down, we’re playing with very little. The staff is getting everything out of this roster that they can. Schoen still has tons of work to do with this team. I think we’re still a few years away. I’m not quite sold on Jones either, which is the most important position on this team. That said, we hung in there with a very talented team. I’m proud of the fight in them. Unless we get back some key starters, especially in the secondary, I’m not sure we win more then another game or two.
Why calm down? Clearly the coach isnt feeling calm about losing

Why should the fan base?

Because the coach is being paid to over-invest emotionally in how the team plays. The fan base is not.

Yep.

Daboll is very upset so we should be too

We should score more points
(yes, there were some plays we left on the field but, this offense was missing most of its starting OL, WRs and TEs that were practice squad guys vs the #1 Defense?, cmon, get a grip)

Lol….this is a very good point you are making…Daboll used these words after last week’s loss to pretty much say the same thing.

Yet shockingly, we won the turnover battle 3-0 and yet still lost. Wow, very unusual I would think.

So true. And it goes to show you that winning in the NFL is not simply about loading up a roster.

A thin roster is what you get when there is a whole new coaching staff and GM

20 points (one TD scored in junk time) good luck winning in today's NFL. Grip that.
If you don’t recognize who was playing on offense
gersh : 11/25/2022 10:04 pm : link
then you really don’t get it

The bigger take-away should be - holy crap, we were in that game. We had back-ups blocking and no one to catch the ball, and we were in it. Daboll and Kafka, in a short week had a game plan that almost won. If these guys just executed a little better - we could have won! Holy crap!

I’m so excited to see what these guys can do with another draft, more cao room and more time to build and coach guys up. This is awesome

Not to mention this was vs the #1 ranked D

Your ability to focus on the negatives - which are fleeting, while ignoring the positives - which are more permanent , is astounding.

Save your Fantasy Draft board talk for April.

They were actually winning the game 13-7 going into the half. What were you saying at that juncture of the game Mr expert hindsight? Thank God I don't watch the games with you. The defense was far from perfect but they did keep the Giants in the game. The offense failed to take advantage of Dallas having only 7 points on the board.

They won 7 games this year and it's a fact that this game was not impossible to win.

If you want to go down that road, fine. Just omit the "straight-thinking" professor lecture next post. lol.

The legendary gruesome twosome pair (Jones and Barkley) need to step their game up down the stretch. I mean everybody was screaming about how great they were in the beginning of the season no?
Barkley - mostly yes
gersh : 11/26/2022 8:44 am : link
Jones - no

Agreed they both need to play better, but football is the ultimate team game. It helps if the 9 other guys are all good.

Just reread to OPs post. We should all be crazy happy that we made it to 7-2. I don’t know anyone who really thought that would happen. Now, a lot of key guys are hurt. This game was a very tough one to win. Yes, we could have won, and I was cheering them on too. But the cowboys are just a better team right now.
