And he is a decent defender. No way does Grant go for 40+ with Cam on him.
But Knicks have a big catch 22.
They only have three guys who can score--Randle, Brunson and RJ--so those guys have to be on the court. Yet, all three are subpar defenders. RJ is the best of the lot but is mediocre at best.
Grimes and Deuce are good defenders but can't throw the ball in the ocean.
Quickley is the only two way guard but has a lot of holes in his game.
And the Knicks will end up 5-10 games under .500 they win just enough to save his ass.
I am an RJ fan but he is being coached wrong and is not held accountable at all for bad play.
I can't get into Randle tonight I don't have the energy but he might be the most frustrating player I have ever watch and that's saying a lot after watch 40 years of Knicks basketball.
This team is the most mismanaged franchise in all of sports.
should be with Brunson in mind, every player acquired needs to be a guy that fit next to him..
I dont care how they got him, i dont care they only got him because of relationship, he is here, he is an all star level player, build the team to get him a costar and fit around him.
Right now Grimes, Quick, Cam, Obi, Mitch, Sims, ihart all fit around him..
1 of Rj and Randle need to go, prefrably Randle, but id be ok with either or both..

This front office has had 3 bad offseasons in a run. They are clueless.
It’s time for Thibs to go but it’s also time people realize how poorly run this front office is. It’s time to bring a real experienced NBA exec before this group does even more damage.
and seeing how he adjusts throughout the game, he is talking to his assistants and then his center gets into foul trouble, does he panic and play another center because the knicks are big? nope he brings in a forward to play center because he knows the Knciks centers have zero offensive game..
I sat on the chase bridge on the player benches side right above the Knicks bench, its amazing, Johnnie Bryant goes to Thibs all the time during a game with what looks like suggestions and Thibs jist kind of says ok and does nothing..
Its just amazing seeing the stubborness of Thibs on full display..
Bryant went to Thibs with something and then went to the end of the bench and tapped Toppin's shoulder and Bryant shrugged, almost seemed like he told Toppin "i tried"

The insistence on playing centers that really aren’t any good is mind boggling. There should be minutes with Randle or Toppin as the only big on the floor.

I tend to agree with you about Rose but this team would have 2 or 3 more wins if Thibs wasnt the coach..
They also have a budding star in Brunson, dude can flat out take over games..
Hard to think of other players who would continue to hoist up shots at this rate while shooting so poorly.
Funniest part of last night's debacle was the last play of regulation. After the made free throw, RJ actually ran towards the inbounder after calling for the ball. Thankfully, the inbounder (I can't remember who it was) waited and gave it to Brunson instead.
Which also makes you wonder why we didn't have a set play drawn up for that situation.

that's fine - but there should be some guidance on exactly who is the preferred first option. And whoever is not that first option could be/should be helping to get that player open for the initial pass or spreading the floor.

This is my biggest ossue with Rj and Randle, they think they are option 1 and 2, all the other players on the team know Brunson is the number 1 guy, Rj and Randle havent accepted it yet, if they had they wouldnt play the way that they do..
Randle gets in the way of everyone and Rj chucks up 22 shots like he is Kobe in his prime
You can't win giving up 49% FG % and you can say it's bad calls but 35 fouls is a lot more than just bad calls.
This is a team at home you need to beat with their injuries.
Yeah
And then he's lousy at finishing at the rim

It's a problem.
Yeah
Just coming to post this, i mean you couldnt play them together when the Blazers had nobody at center on the court?
Randle could of at least taken advantage inside

Sims should have played more and I would have put Deuce on Simon and reduced RJ's minutes.

RJ was awful. I don't know what his final stat line was, but he couldn't hit a shot into the ocean. Him & Randle's defense...Good Lord.
I shudder to think where this team would be sans Brunson.
Again, the bench seemed better than the starters. Doesn't that sound familiar?

Refuses to kick the ball out on his drives, just will not do it. Rather take a superhero dunk attempt and look like an idiot.

Literally all he has to do is either throw the lob to Sims or kick out to Qhickley
