For Beckham—Shepard and Barkley. Those are 2 players that are a great check for Beckham and can help him be a positive part of the culture. If they are not on the team next year then I am not as sure about getting Beckham.
If healthy and reasonable money, I add him.
This is where we have to trust our GM and coach. I don’t think this is just an optics move to make fans think we are making a playoff push this year.
All season we’ve heard from insiders that the offensive minds on the coaching staff have been playing to strengths - not leaning in to a particular fetish with the run game.
With a healthy offensive line, they can pass block, with a stable of competent WRs, TEs - the run/pass tendencies could be wildly different next year
Beckham won't be ready to be back on the field until the "end of December" so as much as I would like to see WR upgraded I doubt it's coming from Beckham, or maybe it will but not until week 16 or 17 or so.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport believes free agent Odell Beckham (knee) is unlikely to play before late December.
Advice: Beckham's timeline has gone from mid-November into early December. It now looks like he won't be ready until the end of next month. Beckham isn't scheduled to visit with Dallas until December 5, making it unlikely he signs before then. The Giants and Buffalo have visits lined up with Beckham in addition to the Cowboys. With only six weeks remaining before the playoffs, Beckham may be targeting a multi-year deal.
but I think this would be a really fun story. I'm not the least bit worried about his personality or previous time here, if only because I trust the regime to make the right choice in terms of his health and his locker room presence.
RE: If they somehow sign him I will root like hell for him
however I am surprised they are having him visit considering the injuries and his antics the 1st time he was here.
I think he ends up with one of the other 2 teams involved.
I agree with everything you said. I am really surprised they are considering him, unless they want to increase the amount of money the Cowboys would have to pay him.
It's possible they are quite serious, it's also very possible they and/or Odell have zero interest in a reunion but are doing it for the photo op which serves both parties. Another possibility is that Odell is nowhere close to 100% of what he was a year ago, let alone what he was five or six years ago.
In my mind, Beckham’s value to the Giants has diminished greatly
Over the last couple of weeks. Beckham knows he isn’t really interested in the Giants and is hoping to get a realistic offer so that he can get Dallas and Buffalo into a bidding war. Even if he signed on Friday, he won’t be available for next Sunday (can he even pass a physical) so the most he will be available for is the last 5 games. Can he contribute to winning 3 of those 5 games and help the Giants squeak into the playoffs? Then what?
@art_stapleton
Odell Beckham Jr’s reps have done a masterful job - absolutely masterful - creating a market in the eyes of the public for a 30-year-old wide receiver who tore his ACL in February.
Free agent visits, players falling all over themselves on social media … just masterful.

Some of you are just idiots and are butthurt from the past. I have bad news for you, Schoen and Daboll aren’t bringing OBJ in for a 2 day visit to make noise for his market.

but if Schoen signs Beckham, it’s because he thinks he can still play and it’s the right move. I don’t think Odell’s behavior will enter into it. He’s not the same guy who left.
The Giants need so much more than a WR right now, and you are going to over pay for Odell, as he has set up a bidding war for his services and he is an unknown quantity as he is not yet in football shape.
I would pass. I just don't see where the value is in signing him. I also don't see the Giants as being desperate, and I don't even see this as an ideal situation for Odell.
Build the team in the right way. You are having/had your auditions this year. The Giants are in a much better position going into next year with the cap. Spend wisely and don't reach.
The only argument for signing him is that you want to see if it would make a difference in Daniel Jones' performance, but this particular Odell situation is set up for it to be less than ideal circumstances, and only a very small sample size will be available for testing this out.
In any event Daboll and Shoen are accomplished professional evaluators and I believe they know what they have and that they also know what they need to be successful. The Giants are going to be a different team next year. I don't think they need to rent Odell to figure it out, and it's dubious that they can afford to.

I expect Schoen to make an offer based on reality rather than sentiment, but the idea that Beckham is a different guy now than the one we traded away is a claim to be demonstrated rather than asserted. He was a problem in Cleveland (though one among many), and he wasn't on the Rams long enough to become a problem.
People seem to think that because he won a ring with Los Angeles, he's beyond concussing himself with the team's kicking net. I hope that's the case, but what I REALLY hope is that Schoen makes a deal that allows us to get out from under his contract with minimal pain if things go south.
I think he ends up with one of the other 2 teams involved.

What team will throw it to him more? Dallas has other receivers.

It will certainly be an improvement, but even when healthy, all our injured OL were better run than pass blockers

Art's right. This is all noise.
If Odell has enough left to play next season, the Giants probably can't afford to pay him what he's worth.
I’m with you

Can’t imagine he’s too thrilled with the prospect .
