Stanford is an impossible place to get great recruiting classes because of the academic requirements. Same reason Notre Dame is overrated every year...just can't get the horses Bama and UGA get.

I think the 2 Covid seasons probably gave him an extra 2 years there. The administration wasn't going to fire a guy that had success earlier in his career during the pandemic. But yeah, he was there too long.
