1) Besides me just not thinking he's worth that much, you can't overlook he had a neck injury to end his season.
2) I don't believe he showed anywhere near enough to warrant the extra year
3) Even much improved this year, I haven't seen anywhere near enough to think we should invest multiple years and/or the market $
4) On the cheap, sure. Over $20M, I'd take my chances elsewhere. I think this staff can coach a rookie or other FA
5) I don't deny he's had a shit time here in terms of WR, OL, Barkley injuries, etc. But, at some time I still want to see a lot more from a #6 pick in year 4. The last 2 games were examples of this, for me. I just wouldn't pay the kind of $ or years to hope they both guess rightn him AND can build a top OL AND get multiple weapons at WR AND can have a solid running game all for next season. That's too much that needs to go right for over $20M
With what we had seen the prior few years definitely not. He hadn't shown enough positive to warrant it nor had he stayed healthy. If he had shown promise definitely. You can only go by the facts at the time.
The team doesn't run on what ifs
It's time to move on from a replacement-level player
The right move at the time. In hindsight I would have picked it up. It’s a really cheap one year contract for a starting QB. Between how he has played this year and the lack of good options where we will be drafting is my reasoning.
I've seen on BBI that jones is no better than Taylor, Trubisky, Case Keenum, Mike Glennon and a myriad of other QBs and while I'm still not sure what he is, I am very confident that he is better than all of those guys, many people want to play Madden football, well we'll just go and get another "bridge QB". Well who is that guy, we'll just get him until we can get our own Patrick Mahomes. If you really want to see QB hell, lets start Taylor or bring in Andy Dalton or Trubisky or Trevor Simien. If the Giants want to move on from Jones they better have a plan where they can replace him with someone better. Otherwise they run the risk of improving the team around the QB position and lets be honest, that really shouldn't be too hard to as there are positions on this team that are dreadful and the injuries have been catastrophic, so with a tiny bit of luck there should be improvements at WR, TE, LB and a heck of a lot less injuries next year. Then they will be faced with Andy Dalton or Taylor at QB on an 8 or 9 win team stuck without a QB. Some want to say that Jones is a replacement level player, but yet many people figure he'll get other offers to start, probably from teams that want to improve the position because they have replacement level players.
I am very confident that he is better than all of those guys
Why?
Because I've seen them all play many times, Joes has a better arm, is more accurate and can do more with his legs than most. All of the guys I've mentioned have serious flaws and make a ton of mistakes. Daniel Jones is far from perfect and I'm not entirely sure what he will become because call them excuses or not but he has really been up against it with the skill position guys and the absolutely awful OL, but he is tough and makes plays to win games, not every time and no not as much as Mahomes, but those guys don't/ We saw Glennon last year, do you want more of that? The Giants obviously think more of Jones than Taylor or Trubisky. Dislike him all you want, want him to leave that's your opinion, but he is better than the guys I mentioned by a lot

but I don’t think it matters. Schoen doesn’t seem like the type of guy that will delay the inevitable. I think he rips the bandaid off or signs him long term.
If the Giants had picked up his option, you don't think they would have let 2023 play out on it?
I meant that now he can rip the band aid off should he not see him as a long term answer. We either get to move on a year earlier or we already have our franchise guy. The 5th year would have been fine I guess but if they aren’t sold on him now then it’s technically a good thing we aren’t committed.
Yeah, if they aren't sold on him it's good they aren't locked into a deal. I guess they could have tried to trade him line Darnols or Mayfield, but that's a gamble.
I'd give up Neal and Toney and take Parsons.

That doesn’t compute to an option, tag or extension.

This.
This
But do you think he's earned it?

Nope. He's a tough competitor, but that doesn't mean hes not a QB that will win games with his ability to throw the ball
Why?

Dallas’ #1 defense, and nothing at WR, TE, and RB with saquon having nothing has swayed yall.

I’m with you.
Because Joe Schoen didn't pick up the option I am guessing DJ is gone.
The 5th year is a very cost effective move even if you're undecided. I was undecided so I would have picked up the option.
Hey dude! I haven't seen you post in a long time. Maybe I just haven't been paying attention.
