Whats the bonus long term for signing OBJ

GMAN4LIFE : 11/28/2022 8:48 am
I mean lets be real here. This team isnt equipped to go far this season. There shouldnt be no point to sign OBJ for the long term where we need alot more other places to fix. Yes WR is one place but we can get younger in the draft or something else.

thoughts?
Agreed
TeamSchlitz1 : 11/28/2022 8:50 am : link
I think (and hope) he is using NYG to drive his price up. At this point in his career he needs to be a complimentary piece anyways. Not THE GUY.
I’m asking that myself
Sean : 11/28/2022 8:50 am : link
His 2 best friends on the team (Barkley & Shepard) are no lock to be on the team next year. The only QB under contract next year us Tyrod Taylor.
There is none
jeff57 : 11/28/2022 8:51 am : link
And there's none short term either.
Giants are not signing him
Vanzetti : 11/28/2022 8:51 am : link
As you say, this is a team that is struggling to make the playoffs not a team looking to establish itself as the Super Bowl favorite.

Then throw in the fact that I Odell Is not the same and comes with all sorts of off the field drama. It is not some thing that the Giants are going to do
He's
JaxGiant : 11/28/2022 8:52 am : link
Not going to sign here. Why would he? DJ may not be here next year and Saquon might not either. Sheppard isn't a lock to be here as well. So the team is having a good year this year but what does next year look like?

Both Dallas and Buffalo are stocked and are ready to go for the next several years. I doubt he wants to walk into a situation where he doesn't even know who the QB is going to be next year. Just my .02 cents.
Yea, happen to agree.....
Simms11 : 11/28/2022 8:53 am : link
I would not sign him now for a few reasons. First off, he’s a 30 year old receiver coming off of his second ACL tear in the same knee. He’s going to be costly and we need to save the cap space next year to fix other areas of the team. Draft has been very huge in terms of getting good receivers in recent years and I’m told that this year will be no different.

It's a team sport champ. How many seasons did we have a top 10 defense? How many seasons was our O-line complete garbage?
To me it's all about$$$$$$$$. And he ain't getin'
Blue21 : 11/28/2022 9:11 am : link
It here.
The whole thing sounds ridiculous to me.
BillT : 11/28/2022 9:13 am : link
Ok. If they get him foe vet min for the last few games I’ll take it. But anything more than that is absurd.
I'm rather neutral on signing him
Biteymax22 : 11/28/2022 9:15 am : link
and whether or not I want him has to do with how much $$$ he'll cost, but the 2 best arguments for signing him:

1) Getting another legit WR will help with the Jones evaluation, though Daboll and Schoen likely already have their mind made up.

2) If a multi year deal, we need WRs next year too. More than one... Starting now doesn't hurt.
The upside is OBJ's agent gives us a break next time WE need a favor.
State Your Name : 11/28/2022 9:20 am : link
Because this is just manipulation to drive up the price for the Cowboys.
None. Plus he will end up playing as much time as
carpoon : 11/28/2022 9:30 am : link
his buddy, Shep.
We basically have no receivers for next season
giantBCP : 11/28/2022 9:31 am : link
and we won’t be able to attract any QBs if things don’t improve. I don’t think Jones would want to stay either, given that he’s a FA and finding a team with better offensive talent shouldn’t be difficult.

I think we’ll overpay for him for that reason, and I think Schoen should have been more proactive in the trade market if that was the case.
Concur, OBJ is NOT signing with Giants
MarvelousMike : 11/28/2022 9:36 am : link
He is over 30 and has injury history. We already have too much $$$ tied up in WRs that are not playing and/or being productive. Imagine BBI "IF" he does sign and gets any type of injury between then and the end of this season.
Right now I can see and hope for WR going in Rd 1 and then a second WR with 1 of 2 Rd 3 picks.

I think OBJ realizes that as well, which is why the visit to NY is all semantics. He’s not healthy enough to be the main guy anymore. He would be the second/third option in Dallas, same in Buffalo. With the Giants they would have to feature him since there are really no other consistent players at the position.
Schoen should drive the price up
MeanBunny : 11/28/2022 10:34 am : link
And make Dallas cough up. There should be no intention of hiring this guy. Not worth it at all
The upside is IF they decide to resign Jones
Jim in Forest Hills : 11/28/2022 10:44 am : link
you give him a weapon to use this year and next without using draft capitol. If Jones is not going to be here I think its pointless to sign him.
NO way its happening, Unless it happens.
rasbutant : 11/28/2022 11:24 am : link
Everything I've thought this team would or wouldn't do they have done the opposite, so why not this too.

I just can't see why OBJ would choose the Giants.
The giants cut Bradberry over money, why you can't come up with money for him, but you can Beckham???
....
riceneggs : 11/28/2022 11:26 am : link
At some point, you have to add good players to your roster. We can't keep getting rid of good players for salary reasons or "fit"

The only time the Giants made the playoffs in the past decade, Beckham was not only on the team, but he was essentially the entire offense by himself.

I'm not saying the Giants should bring him back, but there's no need for revisionist history to make the case against him.
If the price is right, I have no problem with
Section331 : 11/28/2022 11:42 am : link
signing him. Even if he isn’t the same player he was, he’d still beef up one of the weakest units on the team. I think he’ll choose Dallas, as they are a legitimate SB contender.

IF Giants sign OBJ,

Re How Many Winning Seasons...
clatterbuck : 11/28/2022 12:39 pm : link
That was then... this is now, with a new, competent GM and coaching staff. I don't think Giants will sign OBJ but if they do, it will be based on sound football logic in the context of where the team is in the rebuild.
He is built for Dallas
larryflower37 : 11/28/2022 12:56 pm : link
And Jerrah Jones loves troubled players, this is the perfect marriage.
I am an OBJ fan but it doesn't work for the Giants now.
No fun crew strikes again
monstercoo : 11/28/2022 1:35 pm : link
The short term bonus for OBJ is also a long term bonus. This WR Corps needs whatever help we can get in order to make the playoffs this year. Making the playoffs buys this regime a bunch of time. If we don't make the playoffs this year, and don't again next year... the pressure will be on Daboll/Schoen. Considering a rebuild and uncertainties at QB, there's a good chance they finish 2023 with a losing record over 2 years. With Joe Judge, we saw how quickly sentiment can change...

We need to draft and sign in FA like 5 WRs next year. We need a vet(s) WR as part of that corps. It'll be pretty desperate when we end up signing someone like Byron Pringle or Marvin Jones to the same amount as OBJ next year if we don't sign him.
Don't you think it's curious
Gman11 : 11/28/2022 4:21 pm : link
that the Rams don't want him? After all, they lost their #1 receiver to injury.

Beside that I think the episode on the plane is not a good look either.
I think his floor
Dankbeerman : 11/28/2022 4:24 pm : link
is still productive in this offense. He would be a reliable guy to get open quick on 3rd down. We dont have anyone with that win quick type release. He is a great fit for a guy to be moved around a lot pre snap to create matchups qnd I think Kafka And Dabol could have fun with that. We still need a big time WR to go with hi. though.

That is exactly what he is doing... Mara will not allow OBJ to play for this team again.

OBJ and his agent have no problem playing along

The Rams are shutting guys down left and right. I'm not saying they've given up on the season entirely, but I also don't think it's an indictment of OBJ to have no interest from the Rams this year. I could see the Rams trying to bring OBJ back next year if he's still/back on the FA market in the offseason, but I don't see any reason why they'd sign him this year with the rest of their offense in shambles anyway.
Sign OBJ?
