Hi all-
Someone mentioned (and a few agreed) that in the BBI Game Reviews - they skip the game recap and move right to the player analysis.
To be blunt with myself - I know I am more of a scout that is trying to write. I am not a writer that is trying to scout. Professional journalists are much better at that than I am. Completely aware of that.
Personally - writing the game recap is a time/word suck (give or take 1,200 words) and I could switch the format up if you (and Eric) agree it would be better content for you to read. Here are 3 options and any opinions would be welcomed. I have thick skin - you can be real.
A) Keep it as is.
B) Take away Game Recap - add a bit more to Player Analysis
C) Instead of a Game Recap - write the 3 most influential / turning points of the game. This mayget dicey and cause unnecessary disagreements / fights - but maybe could add more discussion.
I am all ears, thanks.
I like B and C.
I dig a lot of the podcasts out there that break down from a schematic standpoint the key plays in the game, but I would love from a player development/scouting standpoint what went wrong/correct.
Your recap is something I genuinely look forward to.
But I have the attention span of a fruit fly, and I also watch all the games.
That said , maybe for those who didn't watch the game, option A may work for them
Thanks for the write-ups!
Please.
But frankly anything you write is great!!!
I also hope you don't take any of the idotic stuff folks say on your posts seriously at all....they clearly have no idea how fortunate they are to have access to what you deliver on a weekly basis.Game recap and what the other team looks like going forward isn't as much of an interest to me,outside of how it effects our team.I guess teams that are division rivals maybe, but generally speaking I enjoy your analysis of how our guys play more than anything.
It's actually X mas morning every tuesday for me...as i await to hear what you see from the tape.
So thanks again!!
Emphatically +1
I would agree with many that I typically race through the game recap to get to your insights. But I would not be in favor of just scrapping it without your key takeaways on the game script itself. Your views for example on the game's key turning points, good/bad decisions, etc. are always of great interest above and beyond simply the player analyses.
So A or C would be my preference...
I think discussing key points in the game might be interesting -- but I am much more interested in reading about how the players and the their groups performed
this is particularly true now that we are in a rebuilding phase and there are a ton of unknowns going forward on this team -- there is also the aspect of measuring how the players are developing
If the recap is half the work you should skip it or adjust it since it is much less than half the value. Said differently, almost any of could write a decent recap, and almost none of us can add the value of player analysis that you do.
Say X player missed an assignment, but player Z made an exceptional play that covered the mistake. Or worse the play was simply blown.
You do nice work Sy. Thanks.
But as many noted, I too would like option B if somewhat of a fresh take is needed.
Anything you decide to write is great reading material
Plus. When draft comes around your analysis is the ABSOLUTE fucking best reading material around
