Hi all-
Someone mentioned (and a few agreed) that in the BBI Game Reviews - they skip the game recap and move right to the player analysis.
To be blunt with myself - I know I am more of a scout that is trying to write. I am not a writer that is trying to scout. Professional journalists are much better at that than I am. Completely aware of that.
Personally - writing the game recap is a time/word suck (give or take 1,200 words) and I could switch the format up if you (and Eric) agree it would be better content for you to read. Here are 3 options and any opinions would be welcomed. I have thick skin - you can be real.
A) Keep it as is.
B) Take away Game Recap - add a bit more to Player Analysis
C) Instead of a Game Recap - write the 3 most influential / turning points of the game. This mayget dicey and cause unnecessary disagreements / fights - but maybe could add more discussion.
I am all ears, thanks.
However, your insight into, who played well, who was disappointing, and how their collective play affected the game is enlightening.
Maybe consider a podcast - ha!
Thanks for asking.
I do not read the recap. I watched the game and recap and highlights are available on many sites.
I very much enjoy the analysis of how each of the units and the players mentioned performed.
The player analysis is the key part for me though as I can't watch the game multiple times to key on players anymore.
I watched the game, so the game recap is nice, but unnecessary. I'd prefer more player and specific play analysis.
for color i usually go right to the player evaluations as well.
So I favor a more abbreviated game recap if it will save time, and DEFINTELY would like more of you insights as a scout, about everything that is a good use of your time.
For the recap maybe instead of a drive-by-drive summary, an emphasis on key parts of the game or even better, anything you notice about an in-game change in strategy like a change in defensive fronts or increased use of the tight end for helping out on pass-blocking, or whatever, would be incredibly useful in that this is not a review of an individual performance but more of a birds-eye view of coaching strategy and in-game adjustments. This is something as a scout you will notice but those of us who are just regular viewers (or in any case those who don't see the all-22) would not be aware of.
Thanks so much for doing this!
Really appreciate your analysis re: individual players and/or player groups.
Thanks!
The only thing I usually do with the game recap is look for your take on a play or two (like the failed 4th and 1 from the Dallas game). Feels like those pivotal plays are usually picked up in your player analysis.
I love your work ... and really appreciate your willingness to share!
I'm in.
I love and appreciate all your work but look for player analysis.
Personally I agree that on the morning after I tend to skip the game narrative and jump to the position grouping evaluations, but I disagree that the recap has no value. That's because when I look back 5 years later, or even a year later, the narrative is very helpful as a reminder for what we thought we saw at the time.
I hope you can continue to do this part of the review, or work it out with Eric so that someone continues that element of the review and combines it with your contribution on the evaluation side.
Thanks again for your work!
Apart from that, the player analyses are the most valuable feature, for an unbiased opinion that can make us think and generate discussion.
Appreciate all the hard work.
