Honest Opinions Wanted

Sy'56 : 11/28/2022 1:17 pm
Hi all-

Someone mentioned (and a few agreed) that in the BBI Game Reviews - they skip the game recap and move right to the player analysis.

To be blunt with myself - I know I am more of a scout that is trying to write. I am not a writer that is trying to scout. Professional journalists are much better at that than I am. Completely aware of that.

Personally - writing the game recap is a time/word suck (give or take 1,200 words) and I could switch the format up if you (and Eric) agree it would be better content for you to read. Here are 3 options and any opinions would be welcomed. I have thick skin - you can be real.

A) Keep it as is.

B) Take away Game Recap - add a bit more to Player Analysis

C) Instead of a Game Recap - write the 3 most influential / turning points of the game. This mayget dicey and cause unnecessary disagreements / fights - but maybe could add more discussion.

I am all ears, thanks.

6 pages in, probably too late to the party

But for what it's worth, since Eric also provides a recap of the game, and I watched it in the first place, I personally skim through that and go right to the analysis.

Personally, I would prefer if game reviews were heavy on analysis and Sy's experienced and educated interpretation, not so much the recap.

Is probably the best way to go, but C was a solid addition to the discussion

These reviews are permanently stored on this site and are easily accessible across years. I know it’s a lot of work going into detail per drive (with the option of glossing over a few) but having the story of the flow of the game adds a lot of value.

I cannot say the last time I read the actual game reviews but always read the player evaluations, studs/duds, what you think about our previous opponent, and your three items you were thinking of about the Giants during the game.

I also do not read the game recap especially if we lost.

BUT I want to make sure that you know I totally appreciate the insight and time you put into the post. I look forward to it.

Without question.

All of the work you do Sy is awesome, and I digest every bit of it...

However I think me, and everyone else on this board, have had seen the game when we read your review...a recap in any sense is not warranted.

Get to your meat and potatoes that we all appreciate so much, and you are golden.

Either way, thanks for your content and contribution to BBI - you are the man.
Another vote for B

The only reason I don't read the recap

Is I've watched the game. I'm more interested in specific players I may not have saw during the game. When you're sitting at home, you're subject to what the camera shows you. So, I know how the game, went, but not how specific players may have played. I'm looking for a professional opinion on what you saw.
