I'm a DJ guy and don't see us being in position to draft a top QB anyway. If we sign DJ to a reasonable contract and want to draft a development guy in the later rounds - Rattler and Penix might be good options.
Re Rattker, he was supposed to be a top guy last year, and sh&t the bed. Transfers to SC, and was really mediocre for most of the year, but the last two weeks he was great in leading SC to wins over two top 10 teams. In those two games, he threw for almost 800 yards with 8 TDs.
Maybe he has come out of this year plus rut he was in and figured things out. He has all of the tools. If we can get him in the 3rd or 4th, he might be a guy who could be worth developing.
Penix has a gun, is a good athlete, and has good size He's thrown for over 4300 yards, 29 TDs, and 7 INTs. Against, the three ranked teams they've played, he threw for close to 1100 yards, with 7 TDs.
If we could grab him in the 4th round, might be a good development guy.
What could go wrong?
Kid has big set of balls and isn’t rattled. No pun intended
What could go wrong?
He can fill the hole of sarcasm thats been missing since Michael Cox left
Pennix I really like. I felt he was a bit screwed over by IU and after so many injuries, I felt it was best for both parties he left.

Lots of rumors (some true) of off the field red flags about Rattler surfaced while he was at OU (and one in HS). I'm not going to throw the kid under the bus, but Rattler is probably best avoided. Maybe he matures (A LOT?), stranger things have happened. He's got a solid arm and quick release...but is very slow for a kid his size.
I'm terrible at evaluating college QBs, but I like watching him play right now.
Hell
No
I like Jaren Hall as a round 3 guy. Similar game to Kyler Murray but older, like very old around 25 years old. Also taller. Played baseball a bit there as well.
I was was throwing out both as mid round projects
I would rather take him, ACL and all, than some high production guy with mediocre or worse arm and poor upside like some of the names being thrown around. I think Hooker was headed to the top 10 or higher before the injury.
Satterfield wasn't very well liked or at least thats what I read. A lot of players were supposedly going to leave if he stayed and our boy Freddie Kitchens helped with play calling after a few weeks into the season.
That isn't from reputable reporters more so online musing so grain of salt.
I leave it to others to comment about Rattler.
Point is, they're going to surprise us with who they target this year I think.
Rattler was a highly recruited prospect with offers from many of the big brands. He has a good arm, and he can move pretty well. Had a very good year in 2020 for the Sooners and seemed to be living up to the hype. But he really hit a wall last year in Norman (was a preseason Heisman favorite) and looked completely lost with his confidence. That opened the door for the great Caleb Williams to emerge.
But Rattler, as mentioned above, has had a resurgence these last two weeks against two great programs - Tennessee and Clemson. So, maybe he's seeing the light again.
If anything, Rattler should come back for one more year and prove that he's found himself over a full season.
Penix does have some warts.

I know he tore his ACL, and next year would be a red-shirt type season for him, but would he be a good option for this team say in the 3rd round?

I think the injury hurts Hooker more than it might hurt an identical (but younger) prospect.
HH would already be on the older side as a top QB prospect, and the injury basically ensures a redshirt year and then whatever development timeline after that.
That said, if you're targeting him in the draft, you might still want to get him in the late first round to ensure that you get the 5th year option since you're already throwing one season of his rookie contract away right from jump.
We should draft Penix and have a back up QB Hooker! Hell of a team! Hooker hands off to Penix! Love to hear the broadcasters have fun with that…
Including QB.
Penix can fill at least one hole

but if you're drafting a QB in the 4th, 5th, etc. round, they're going to have warts.
Penix does have some warts.
Should get that checked.
Narrow and static view of the roster, which is a living, fluid thing under constant change. QB will be one of the changes coming.
Penix and Rattler are both pretty poor performers under pressure, their respective games go down the drain.
Or Clitorix for that matter.
If healthy, Penix is a legit QB prospect. He has the arm talent, mobility, accuracy and IQ to be a potential starting QB in the NFL. However, the guy is made of glass.
My favorite two QB sleepers are:
Grayson McCall of Coastal Carolina (he's injured right now)
Michael Pratt of Tulane
Other guys who I like, but not as much are KJ Jefferson, Bo Nix (who has really surprised me. The guy was ass at Auburn, but he's been very good for Oregon), Cam Rising and Devin Leary. And while I'm not a fan, I guarantee you there will be a few QB coaches/OCs who believe in DJ U.
