I have no opinion as the only game I've ever seen him play was this season's opener where he was clearly underwhelming. By most accounts his measurables are impressive.
Should he declare, is he the kind of raw prospect that Schoen/Daboll would be interested in drafting/developing?
Amazing athlete.
I'd trust a scenario where AR was a second round pick. Remember, drafting is about future projection, not about just college production/performance.
I could see him returning to school still. I could also see a team like the Giants taking him in the 1st with plans for him to sit the whole year.
He has a long way to go on the finer points of playing QB. But he does make some really good, difficult, and accurate throws. I am very intrigued by him, buy we would have to be patient

bw...if he last until the 2nd round, he'd certainly be worth very serious consideration. I'd be very skeptical though of him as a 1st rounder.
But once the SEC schedule kicked in, it couldn't be more clear that he needs another year at Florida. There's way too much room for improvement to draft him in the first 2 rounds.
If JS likes Jones but does not want to invest long term (which I feel is likely) he can do that and also draft a QB after round 1. This allows him to position for a future QB in the following years if needed again.
This NFL is really adopting some college concepts. Seems like we are going to see teams implement different strategies on both sides over time. Be interesting how it shakes out. Not sure the NFL will not at some point (playoffs) force your QB to have to win from the pocket but teams are winning now in the regular season.
So I see a dual threat very much in the cards.
But my god his accuracy and touch is a major issue. He’s beyond raw in that area. You’d have to commit to thinking you can change that. It’s a classic boom or bust guy.
Willis played at Liberty..Richardson plays in the SEC. Willis is 6', Richardson 6'4"...and yes, that does matter.
I don't believe either of these guys were/are 1st rounders, but somebody is likely to fall in love with Richardson and attempt to build Josh Allen 2.0. I'm just not convinced it should be the Giants given the lack of talent at so many other spots and the high risk of using a 1st round pick on a guy that may never develop.
However, he probably feels like he has some unfinished business at Florida. He's from Gainesville, he's only started one year, and the team hasn't been that good. Being QB at UF is probably pretty damn fun. When guys were making no $$, going pro is still an easy call. But with high profile QBs making multi millions in college, there's a strong argument for a guy like him to stay.
If he declares he will probably go before we get a cnahce but if he’s there when we pick he’s our guy and potential long term answer.
There have been many College QBs who were nothing special until they got 1 breakout year and then took off. He could be a guy where it all clicks in and has a monster season and goes top 3.

It's more than poor decision making, he also consistently missed on the easiest if throws. for instance, on Saturday, he missed on two WR screens by 4 or 5 feet. That's just terrible. Whether it's mechanics get loose or lack of concentration, I do not know, but he is wildly inconsistent in his accuracy from throw to throw.

Was a 3rd Rounder and look how he has done. Richardson would probably be in a similar or worse spot next year because it is a deeper crop

Shouldn't Richardson be getting better coaching and facing higher quality Defenses in the SEC? If he is not developing with that why will he suddenly improve in the NFL? Part of the allure people claimed with Willis like Allen was that he was not necessarily getting the highest level of coaching so there was untapped potential when he received that level of coaching. Yes Richardson is more solidly built, but there are a lot of red flags here.

I think he has a long way to go on the rudimentary points of playing QB. Someone mentioned above that you'd want to take him in the first round so you have the 5th year option. I think you'd need the 5th year so that he's still under contract when he's ready to start...
However, he probably feels like he has some unfinished business at Florida. He's from Gainesville, he's only started one year, and the team hasn't been that good. He would be crazy to come out this year.
Richardson has all the physical attributes, but not sure the noggin is there...
I'd much rather use a 2nd on Hendon Hooker, even with the injury.
If he comes out this year, he will 100 percent not be a top 15 pick. He likely isn't even a first rounder.
Quote:
He's going to be a top 15 pick with the natural ability he has. I'd love to give his talent to Daboll to develop. He's the closest thing to Josh Allen in this draft. And be honest. Most people were highly critical of Buffalo for taking Allen as high as they did.

I think it's probably best AR goes back to school, too. But do not be surprised if he gets a first-round grade. You can't teach his size, arm, speed, quickness, athleticism. And in today's NFL, he checks a lot of boxes for the dual threat...
Who says one won’t suffer a major injury next year? With how deep this year’s class is I don’t think he will go higher next year even if he is QB3.
Richardson has all the physical attributes, but not sure the noggin is there...
Now there’s name I haven’t seen discussed much. Curious to see if he comes out. He’s gotten progressively better at FSU. Another year in college would do him well but I could see him sneaking into the 1st.

Travis Jordan clearly outplayed him, including about 10 dropped passes from the FSU Wrs...

Huge improvement since the beginning of the year. But I think he needs a bit more size - listed at 212 lbs, but looks thinner.
I think another year at FSU would be best - he is 22 already, if that means anything. But I think he is pretty good.
He's similar to Richardson in that he makes some bad decisions with the football as well. There was a near pick-6 he threw that went right off the chest of the UF defender and it was a really bad decision with the football he got away with.
He does have dazzling running ability and often shows really nice touch with his accuracy. I'm not convinced on the overall arm talent, I think Richardson has a bit of an edge there, and Richardson has a much better NFL body type for the position.
Neither should enter the draft this year. Travis is more likely because this is his fifth year, but I believe because of COVID and the NCAA rule where you can get a 6th year of eligibility...but that year applies where the player gets 5 years of play.
Not sure if Travis' true freshman season counts against him there, where he played in 3 games and threw 14 passes (4 completions). From what I read, he can return if he desires.
But FSU has had several QBs similar to him in terms of profile and accomplishment, with little to no NFL accomplishments or even service time. Deondre Francois recently, EJ Manuel, flash-in-the-pan Xavier Lee, Chris Rix, you might even say Christian Ponder.
I don't think Travis is a real NFL QB prospect. You can draft him very late and see if lightning can strike, but he'll likely be a fringe NFL player.
Back to Richardson, it is laughable to suggest he's anywhere near a top-15 prospect, and to compare him to Josh Allen is ridiculous. Allen had question marks about the program he was in, coaching, surrounding talent, even weather, that Richardson does not have. Further, Allen's arm talent wasn't just great, it was (and is) off-the-scale. In terms of physical profile, Allen was as perfect a prospect as John Elway.
Richardson might check a lot of boxes in the physical profile department, but there's no question he's surrounded with far superior talent in a much more premiere program. And while he plays superior competition as well, you'd like to see him progress year-over-year. That hasn't been the case this year. This might be his first year as the full-time starter, but the completion percentage is down, he still makes head-scratching decisions with the football among some of the highlight throws he makes.
That wasn't the issue with Allen so much. His receivers couldn't catch a cold, which was as big a reason for the low completion % number he held in his final year, which is still better than what Richardson has this year.
Richardson needs to refine his game and master being efficient in this offense. If he can have a big year next year, he can potentially be a first round pick in 2024. But that ship has long since sailed for the 2023 draft.
I agree with you as I don't know just how strong that arm is. I do think he could use another college year. But, I would take a chance on him 3rd round or later.
You are also correct on the FSU QBs you named and could not understand Ponder going that early..
