not trying to shut down this season as we are contending, but let’s be honest. This team would need a miracle to win a SB between injuries, lack of talent at WR, etc.
This offseason has the potential to be one of the most important in recent memory. It will really be the true litmus test of what we have with Schoen. We know Daboll and his crew can coach the shit out of a mediocre team. We are witnessing that now. But we’ll soon find out what our GM is made of.
Do they re-sign Barkley? Do they franchise/re-sign Jones? Do they re-sign key vets like Love or offer extensions to players like Jackson or Leonard Williams to get their 2023 cap number down? What happens at WR, do they spend FA money or just draft a few guys at that position?
It’s going to be a wild ride.
Yes, read my first sentence. But I’m also a realist in terms of expectations for the rest of this season. Do you think Schoen is just putting up blinders on anything beyond week 12 right now?
It s surprising with a huge game coming up how many posts this week have focused on off season topics. Guess it s conditioning from a decade of losing.

The Giants are in an unusual situation. They have a QB who is not signed beyond this year & Barkley, one of their most important offensive players is also a pending free agent.
This isn’t like watching Manning and that team try to climb the mountain. There are just so many unknowns and I think that contributes to it.
However, yes your point is valid. The Giants have a playoff game on Sunday.
Exactly. Save all that boring gossip for March.
yep, all they want to do is shit on a certain few giants players, talk up other NFCE teams and lecture others about "defending" giants players on the internet. The off season /draft season is where all their energy goes. What happens on the field can only ruin their running narratives.

Pro tip: if you aren’t interested in a topic, don’t read the damn thread. Meanwhile, there are many of us who can be interested in both the Washington game AND the off season. Numbskulls.

Just not every day!
high priority
I think we purge much of this roster in the off-season and draft well. We will sign second tier unrestricted free agents to fill holes.
If both Jones and Barkley walk it is because they aren't in the Daboll plans after-all. We could end up getting #3 comp picks for both and not have huge salaries which allows us to build up for next year and beyond.
I believe in Jones more than Barkley but who knows....
Just win this week!
Meanwhile, crickets on Jones.
If you are not interested in the offseason part, then do not participate. Just like the hundreds of DJ threads, if you are tired of the daily discourse on re-signing Jones, let it go or dive in.
I have not a clue as to where to get the biggest bang in fixing this team. My guess is WR on offense and ILB on defense, followed by CB.

I’m not saying they aren’t good, but I’m at a point where I need to see how the rest of the season goes before continuing to sing their praises.
6-1 was insanely impressive but let’s not forget how close 1-6 was.

Of course you re correct in all of this; I would never presume to suggest what someone should or should not post.
I m just surprised there s not more juice about a game with huge play off implications this Sunday.
Give him 4/120 75 million guaranteed and make his first 2 years salary low and then escalate it.
As far as Barkley, Transition Tag him. Let him get his best offer and if you choose to match it then so be it. If not let him walk.
McCaffrey was under contract. How do you think the Giants can trade a player who will be a free agent in March? Would you sign him to a long term deal and then try to trade him? Or would you tag him and then try to find someone who will take him off your hands? Trades of high level players with expiring contracts usually only happens when a player is tagged and refuses to accept the tag. ________________________________________

Because it is Tuesday and we still do not know who will be available to play on Sunday? If they get Neal, Bredesen, Bellinger and Ojulari back, that is actually a huge infusion of talent returning to the field.
Not really sure the Bredesen is a big upgrade over Ezeudu, but he would be over Anderson.
Why? He can tag him and trade him to a team this offseason. They’d get a bigger return for a player for 17 games than 8.
As for Williams I think they let the contract play out and deal with it in the offseason.
As far as Jones, who knows?! But it appears like he’s either going to be a bridge to another QB or be given an opportunity to sign elsewhere. Reading the tea leaves, of course.
Draft needs QB? WR, ILB, CB, IOL and DLine depth.

Offer Jones 1 year, $12 M. If he doesn't take it, go down the list of other placeholder QBs. One of them will take a starting job.
Try to get a QB in the draft if there's one that they like
Try to keep our defensive talent - this is less straightforward because there is a lot of room to negotiate
Use cap space to upgrade WR and possibly interior OL.

Would be if we didn’t make playoffs and he didn’t trade Barkley for a load Carolina got. Don’t you know part of the job description is , “has to be a fortune teller” or possess psychic qualities “.

Pretty sure Carl’s post was sarcastic based on the last line about a GM’s job description.
No danger of that happening it s been discussed every week since last season ended and continues to be the big topic this week, even begged than Sunday s game, a December game with play off implications, something this site has been starved for.
Not sure how wanting to just let it play out is equivalent to putting your head in the sand, but ok……guilty
Meanwhile, crickets on Jones.
Exactly, the Giants aren't going to let 2nd contract younger, productive players just walk because of some narrative. The objective is to find those guys and keep them. Anything can happen, but odds are NYG will do everything they can to keep the veteran young core here intact.
Jones is another story. There are too many moving parts to predict anything yet.

that just wishes to put their head in the sand. How can a fan site not debate the pending free agency of their polarizing QB and RB? That’s supposed to just be ignored and not discussed?

Joe, I totally agree that a lot are taking this game Sunday for granted. It’s a playoff game.
I think this thread has a lot of merit -- it is going to be interesting to see how this FO handles the personnel issues;
and there are numerous personnel issues of import that need to be addressed that to my eyes there is still room to debate about.
Here's an idea:
Don't like offseason threads? Don't open offseason threads.

You CAN just let it play out. And then you can also just not open threads about the offseason until you're ready to consider those topics.
What you shouldn't do is tell anyone else how to feel just because you don't want to participate in the topic.
This may come as a shock to you, Joe, but you're not a better fan than anyone else here just because you choose to only see what's right in front of you and allow everything else to just play out.
Starting with you.
Still a decent amount to be positive about for the future and we can at least see the possibility of having real big games sometime in the next few years.
And then the biggest challenge for any GM is to acquire a quality QB. Look at the job Joe Douglas has done with the Jets. He's turning that franchise around, killed it with the draft. And yet he still hasn't solved the QB issue. (Mike White has had big games before, and then followed them up with stinkers, so case not yet closed).
It might be that Jones is still our QB next year, because Schoen can't see his way to one he wants in the draft. I guarantee you Schoen and Daboll are looking to upgrade at that position.
I’m not saying they aren’t good, but I’m at a point where I need to see how the rest of the season goes before continuing to sing their praises.
Agree, I believe we've been outcoached in last 3 losses.
6-1 was insanely impressive but let’s not forget how close 1-6 was.
I would be surprised if any team pays Barkley 12 million a year. I sure hope if one does it's not the Giants. Maybe the extra time off will rejuvenate him. Let's hope so because the last two weeks he looks like the tank has hit empty.
My opinion is that Daniel Jones at 30 million - the going rate for starting NFL QBs is a bad investment. I don't even want the Giants to offer him a "bridge" contract for 15 million. I hope the Giants move on. I think in the big picture a QB on a rookie contract plus the other players that could could be added all over roster with that extra money is a better investment.

That you would even suggest that I believe I m a better fan shows how little the internet allows people to know one another
That you would suggest my post expressing surprise that an old topic is still dominating the conversation even this week, is an example of me being judgmental of what others should post is laughable.
I have participated as much as anyone on the topic of Jones, and will continue to do so.
But funny thing is you don’t see the irony in lecturing me about telling others what topics/opinions they should write about as you are expressing the same sentiment to me.
You take my posts way too personal Gator, it s just a message board know my posts have annoyed you before, maybe you should take your own advice and ignore me

Good post.
This is no different than when we kept Eli on the roster after drafting Jones.
Then, we are not locked into Jones for more than this upcoming year.
For Barkley, I would offer him whatever makes sense for this team but if he can find a better deal elsewhere, then let him go. There are many other free agent RBs who we can sign this off season. Kareem Hunt, Jeff Wilson, etc.
