What are some songs you despised when your were young but actually like now?
I would have to say mine is True by Spandau Ballet (1983).
Back in the day of Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Judas Priest I used hate when this song came on MTV.
Fast forward to today, I kind of like it. I have even gone as far as singing along with it in my car and having it on one of my playlists...
If young Tom only knew what old Tom was up to in his 50's.. he would be so disappointed.

Me too. A lyric like that which just ticks off a series of historic events and people which were current at the time of it's composition immediately dates itself in the years after.
Having a recap list of historical events does not date a song. Talking about putting a dime in a pay phone or learning to play guitar in the summer of '69 or driving my Chevy to the levy on the day the music died is what dates a song. Plus, BJ says in the song that those events had nothing to do with his generation.
Only reinforced like some Clockwork Orange torture experiment by the MTV video having the Tom Cruise underwear scene throughout.
Sometimes after it came on in the car I'd just turn the radio off and drive in silence out of fear it would come on again. It reminded me of Jason or Michael Myers, I would change stations and it was on every single one or might have been my imagination but sometimes my radio would be off and I swear I'd still hear it.
Fucking great album... easily one of their weakest songs
I didn't read the rest of your original post. I still hate this song.
I used to hate any song Steely Dan. Appreciate them now.
But here's Karma- it's one of my wife's favorites and on her Spotify playlist so I have to listen to it all the freaking time now.

Mrs. in UT is not a Tommy James fan, except for Mony, Mony of course. She also hates all those old songs that feature someone dying.

You should hear him sing We Didn't Start The Fire
But honorable mention to Old Time Rock & Roll. Besides the aforementioned MTV overplay, it’s imposed on our ears by every DJ at every wedding, etc.
Also Disco Duck by Rick Dees.
Not a huge Seger fan, but I'm a sucker for 'We've Got Tonight'.
I once dated a girl whose mother saw Rod in concert on 3 different continents. She was THAT big of a fan. I'm not a huge Stewart fan, but do like 'Maggie May' & 'Rhythm of My Heart'.
Hey the Shriners day parade is a hoot
Most annoying songs on earth.
Ha ha, well played.

Haha we totally agree. So sick of Old Time Rock and Roll
Age didn't mellow the hate.
The he most overrated song EVER. Banal garbage.
Music on the radio (for the last 10 or plus years) irritates me so damn much I cannot listen to a second of it.
Meh. It's only music. Not that important to me like others.
The he most overrated song EVER. Banal garbage.
AGREE COMPLETELY!
Still hate it with a passion.
Most Billy Joel songs sound like a advertisement jingle
+1. I can't stand anything Rush plays
and I still don't care for them!
To me Geddy Lee sounds like that 80-year old lady that lives next door and will confiscate your wiffle ball if it lands in her yard.
That and The Final Countdown by Europe. Dreadful songs.
But I'm going big here: I always hated and I still do.....
.....Hotel California by the Eagles.
The Dude abides, and the Dude hates the Eagles. Me too.
I now have about 9 Neil Young albums/cd's in my collection.
Those people mainly who sit around in 2022 and blast the radio in the summertime and wait for someone else to play their favorite songs .... that they've heard thousands of times, from 40 years ago.
