Belly, Neal, Moreau Bredeson and Feliciano

Would be huge this week as we can start getting some bodies back in the secondary, another playmaker on O, and some punch back in the running game with Neal and the ability to utilize those heavy formations again.

Seems like a long time since we've had a guy come back from in-season injury and perform at a high level in first game back.

I believe Daboll used that name for Bellinger at a recent press conference.

Why in the world would Feliciano start, even if healthy?
Matt M. : 11/30/2022 1:02 pm : link
Gates was the starter before he got hurt and is a far better OC. He is healthy himself now and looks strong. He now played the last game and a half and should be considered the starter the rest of this year and moving forward.

One of the lessons of the Reese and Gettleman years is that if you have a person playing at a strength do not move said person to another position and create two weak positions. We have gone down this road many, many times where we take a person who was successful in one position because he has some versatility and place them at their weaker position and we screw up two positions.

Brian Daboll still won’t comment on Odell Beckham Jr., who is visiting the team tomorrow.

Gary Brightwell (illness) and Richie James (knee) both are not practicing today, which makes Kalil Pimpleton today’s top KR

McGaughey, asked about Pimpleton, said everyone must stay ready

Daboll didn't sound super optimistic about Ben Bredeson, who returned to practice this week after missing four games on IR, being ready for Sunday. With Josh Ezeudu still out with a neck injury, real chance Nick Gates starts at left guard.

Nevermind that either Ezeudu or Bredeson are not as big of a weak spot at OG as Feliciano is at OC.

If gates is an upgrade over feliciano, u should play him at his best position
If nothing else, those two plus glow should bring a little attitude to oline.
Not expecting miracles but along with Neal would really like to pound the rock.
Great news on getting some guys back

We have yet to see Thibs, Ojulari, Williams and Lawerence all on the field together this year. Nice comments from Wink especially Rodarius. Interesting on Jones and the run option. That seemed to coincide with Bellinger going down but maybe that's just me.

Gates was fantastic at center against Dallas. I was surprised Sy didn’t rate him higher. PFF for instance rated Gates’s performance the best by an NYG center this year by a lot.

Gates has simply shown a much higher floor and ceiling frankly at center, than Feliciano could ever dream.
Need all the CB help we can get.

Also, did they ever announce what exactly Aaron Robinson's injury was? Weird that it was never really stated.

From Sy'56:

"Center Nick Gates graded out as the top lineman, which isn’t saying much. His hands were heavy and accurate. I don’t see a ton of movement off the line against defensive tackles and he did struggle to get his hips in the hole a few times. I chalk that up to the lower body still working its way back."

Yes, I was surprised Sy had such a "bleh" observation.

The other online observers rated Gates much better. Skinner's offensive line review was headline Nick Gates should absolutely be the starting Center.

BBV Here is an interesting development. Nick Gates, making his first start of the season at center in place of the injured Jon Feliciano, graded far better than Feliciano did in any of the Giants’ first 10 games.

Gates posted an 82.4 overall grade, a nearly-elite 88.6 as a run blocker. As a pass-blocker, Gates allowed just one quarterback hit in 43 pass-blocking snaps.

I dont see why Sy has to jerk everyone off each week. You critique a guy for making his own observation, but not the others that align with your opinion.

While Skinner did say that, he also mentioned that he had a few negative plays. He didn't describe him as "fantastic" for sure but he definotely felt he was better than Feliciano by a good deal.

Fantastic is my word, not anyone's else. To my untrained eye, I observed he played really well. And the internet reviewers graded him at varying degrees from better than Feliciano to near elite in the run game.

Matt M. : 11/30/2022 5:03 pm : link
and I agree he has not been playing at an All Pro level, as someone suggested. But, that is only through 1.5 games. Before getting injured, he shocked a lot of people by playing at a near all pro level at OC when playing the position for the first time. I know that was prior to this regime, but surely they are aware. I also know they have a connection to Feliciano. But, surely they are also able to objectively see Gates is a much better OC. And, isn't OG his more natural position?
The bigger issue is
Dave on the UWS : 11/30/2022 5:05 pm : link
Feliciano sucks as a guard - Daboll and Johnson know that. Gates can put in an honest days work at Guard, so that’s our best lineup.
The interesting question will be who starts at center when either Brederson or Ezeudu are ready. It should be Gates.
Sy does some of his best work
Lines of Scrimmage : 11/30/2022 9:14 pm : link
on the lines imv. I saw Gates several times be very good in pass sets and was sometimes at least three yards ahead of other OL in a good way. With the run game really struggling I think Gates may have played a hand.

Regardless, we have a lot of challenging DT's groups coming up. We should get a better idea of where he is and how to address it this offseason
