Sad.

which she wrote, is one of the catchiest songs I've ever heard, and her voice was really great on that one (and every one). Sorry to hear this.
Huh, was just thinking about her...
sb from NYT Forum : 11/30/2022 3:12 pm : link
...because Little Lies was on the radio.

She must have made a fortune, her songs were some of Fleetwood Mac's biggest hits.

Over My Head
Say You Love Me
Don't Stop
You Make Loving Fun
Hold Me
Rest In Peace

Her “Songbird” from Rumours can still bring a year to my eye.
it was a big deal

when she rejoined the band for the 2014/2015 tour - and it was a fantastic show. I think that ended up being the last tour the late 70s era lineup did together.

Was just thinking about her
JimInKgnNY : 11/30/2022 3:22 pm : link
One of the car manufacturers just started running commercials featuring her song "Everywhere".
I was hoping to see the five Fleetwood Mac members together one more time live. Now that's not gonna happen.
RIP Christine. Thanks for the great songs you wrote and sang.

Probably Fleetwood Mac's best song writer.

Saw them during that tour I believe (don't remember exactly the year). Wasn't a huge fan of Fleetwood Mac, but I went with my wife who was. They were excellent.
Got to see them a couple of times in the old days

Tremendous band.
So sad, such a wonderful voice.

I tended to like Stevie and Lindsey’s songs a little more, but she had some gems. Over My Head, Say You Love Me and Songbird, the latter with what I think was her best vocal performance. Just sheer perfection. RIP.
What a bummer

I'm glad I had the chance to see them live - on the 2014/5 tour, I believe.

I loved her voice - and it worked so nicely with Stevie and Lindsey.
RIP Christine

I'm listening to my Fleetwood Mac playlist right now as I'm working. Rumors is definitely a great album and one of my favorites.

Me as well, because of that Chevy commercial with Everywhere on it. That is one seriously catchy tune.

Agreed.

I saw her close a concert with that song, just her and a piano. Beautiful.
I think Fleetwood album sales have been poppin'

Murray:
When you're in a band, you don't get with your bandmate's girlfriend - past or present.

Jemaine:
Yes, well thanks for that.

Murray:
You get a love triangle - you know? Fleetwood Mac situation.

Murray:
Well there there was four of them, so more of a love square. But you know, no one gets on.

Jemaine:
Okay, I see.

Murray:
Mind you, they did make some of their best music back then.

Bret:
Rumours.

Murray:
No, that's all true.

Ha! That is funny.

Sad to hear this. Seeing the original band together again would have been great.

but I think she was underrated.

Their music and especially her songs always reminded me of hanging out with girls in my hometown in the summers of the mid / late 70s.

I agree. I felt she was much better than Nicks. Bettervsinger, better songwriter. Stevie had what sells...looks.
You and I are in the minority, Nargs, but...

as an oldster but to me she, and not Stevie, and not Lindsay, was my favorite singer/songwriter in FMac. I first came to Fleetwood Mac in their second incarnation, after the Peter Green/Jeremy Spencer addled and insane blues days. Bare Trees from '72 was my first FMac album after their departure (or breakdown), when they brought in Danny Kirwin and Bob Welch. That's the album that had my favorite Christine MacVie song, Spare Me a Little. If I knew how to link I would but I don't, so look it up yourselves. You'll hear where all her great later songs came from.
Rob, Rich, I respect your passion for Christine and the music.

I've been a great admirer since her days in Chicken Shack when I knew her as Christine Perfect. Since she played piano on Fleetwood Mac's 2nd album, "Mr Wonderful," since she painted the cover for Fleetwood Mac's first Peter Green-less album, "Kiln House," - a one-off that I've always loved. That was 1970. Christine joined the following year with "Future Games," which was also Bob Welch's first FM album.

They got their shit together, and by their next album, "Bare Trees," Bob had "Sentimental Lady," and, Rich, as you so correctly stated, Christine had her songwriting blueprint, "Spare Me a Little."

All that stated, I don't agree with comparing Christine's talents with Stevie's - it's really a case of apples and oranges. Their gifts in FM didn't compete, they complemented one another. The group was made that much stronger when Stevie joined.

Yes Rob, Stevie added sex appeal, but that wouldn't have mattered much if she didn't have some additional and considerable gifts in other departments.

And those gifts were remarkable and adding them to FM took them into uncharted territory.

I suggest that instead of stating one's talents were superior, that we acknowledge that each had exemplary abilities that, thankfully for FM, differed. And that both were great.

Submitted for your approval, one of the most,
enchanting, powerful, and moving moments in televised rock history, Fleetwood Mac's 1976 appearance on Midnight Special. This video not only makes the case that Fleetwood Mac was a new contender for rock supremacy, but that Stevie Nick's might have been the '70's most powerful performer. Add that to her songwriting skills, and her distinctive voice and I hope you'll understand why I wish you'd say, "I prefer Christine's songs," rather than one is better than the other.

BTW, I adored Christine. She was a kind lady, she didn't look down or ignore roadies, stage crew, DJ's, etc. May her beautiful soul rest in peace.

One more thing, the Rhiannon Midnight Special clip is extraordinary, and if you love rock and roll, you'll be all the richer to check it out.

Nice comments, guys. Brings back memories.

Talk about classic rock. FM of that era certainly is. Still sounds great today.

and made them great was they had not one but two tremendous female lead singers. Both had different styles. Its why Fleetwood Mac could offer you a hard rock anthum like Go Your Own Way and come right back at you with the next track which was a beautiful balled like Songbird.
Point taken Waldo...
richynyc : 12/1/2022 8:41 am : link
...it's all great music and they are all wonderful musicians and there is no reason to try to order them in preference. My younger daughter who is now 29 got into the Stevie/Lindsay about 10 years ago but she really didn't know Christine's songs, so I played Spare Me a Little and she then loved both female voices.

Perhaps the best British/American combo band ever assembled, and yes, Christie was a big part of it, may she RIP, a very talented songwriter, musician, and vocalist.

based on the post above mentioning "Bare Trees", I listened to the title track last night, as well as "Hypnotized". I was not a fan of solo Bob Welch, but I like those 2 songs.

Interestingly, I read that almost every member of FM was inducted into the rock n roll HOF, except Welch. That includes Green and a couple members most people have never heard of (Kirwan and Spencer).

Welch was an important member, played on 5 FM albums, wrote several of their songs (including Hypnotized) and Mick Fleetwood even said, Welch helped keep the band together during that time and ultimately helped them meet Nicks and Buckingham.

Welch originally blamed FM for his exclusion (he had sued them over re-negotiated royalties), but it appears it was the HOF committee, including Jann Wenner (who didn't like his style), that kept him out. Seems pretty shitty of Wenner and co.
Glad to see you back,

Great post and thanks for posting! As a hobbyist guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has always been a hero of mine but I love everything Fleetwood Mac has done since he and Stevie joined.

And it was real alchemy there... a British blues band that decided to take on two complete nobodies (Lindsey and Stevie) and they all made the the greatest rock and roll record of all time.
