Eight days into a ten-day layoff, the staff is still sorting Sunday's lineup. Two moves, utilizing the two open roster spots, appear nearly certain:

With Gary Brightwell sick and a banged-up Richie James replacing Wan'Dale Robinson as the primary slot receiver, there's room for a return man and backup slot, so I think Kalil Pimpleton's ticket finally gets punched:

Alternatively, Vernon Butler or Ryder Anderson could get the nod, to lighten the load on Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams. Two elevations could be a possibility, though it's not obvious who would be added to the inactive list. The first six names on that list are relatively easy.

Jackson, Ezeudu, and Lemieux have already been ruled out. Sills is buried behind Isaiah Hodgins and Kenny Golladay. Hudson has been passed by Lawrence Cager; so he probably sits unless Daniel Bellinger is a late scratch. (Chris Myarick's role is slightly different, so he dresses over Hudson too.) Ojulari's return bumps Smith into the "spare EDGE" spot formerly occupied by Quincy Roche.
He could be a like for like elevation with Say Ellis on PS.

The only hitch is that Ellis is a vested vet, and he was on the opening day roster. So his full salary is guaranteed. There's no savings from demoting him, and he has little incentive to re-sign as a practice squadder. His career is winding down anyway.
