Re-match of their epic October 15 game in Salt Lake City where Utah prevailed 43-42. Giving SC their only loss of the season.
Caleb Williams had 5 passing TDs and Cam Rising had 2 TD passes and 3 rushing TDs. Just a great heavyweight fight between two tough QBs.
Rising converted a 2-point conversion with 48 seconds left to put Utah up for good. Williams was rallying SC for a potential game winning FG, but costly penalties derailed the Trojans.
It's always a pleasure watching the great Caleb Willaims play. And Rising is tough as nails, and an underrated QB prospect in the 2023 draft (if he declares).
Lots of good talent on both sides. For SC: Williams, Dye, Addison, Washington, Vorhees, Tuipulotu, Blackman, etc. And for the Utes: Rising, Kincaid, Thomas, Phillips, etc.
But seriously looking forward to this.
Probably right.
What happens if KState knocks off TCU tomorrow, too? When they played in October, KState had TCU on the ropes for the first half of that game. So, KState knows they can play with the Horned Frogs...

I think K-State beats TCU...so if both TCU and USC lose, I would expect Ohio St and Bama to be in the playoffs.

I doubt the committee takes a 2 loss Alabama team over a one loss TCU team. You could make a case for Penn State over Alabama since their two losses are to Michigan & Ohio State, if TCU is out of the picture if they lose.

A number of Big 12 teams had TCU on the ropes, Texas did too and gave it away. They are a good team but not dominant by any means
Not sure how we get him though
It might be worth it.
“A total embarrassment”.
LOL! Have you seen them play at all besides tonight?? One bad play doesn’t make them a “total embarrassment”.
🙄

defense is a total embarrassment. 3rd and 19 and they make the worst effort to tackle a receiver i've ever seen

Speedy, they got smoked defensively against every good offense they played all year. 40 to utah both times. 40 to UCLA. 35 to Cal. 37 to Arizona.
There isnt another way to describe their defense besides a total embarrassment. They didnt slow down any good offense the entire season.
This hasn't aged well.

It made no sense from the start. They could not even come remotely close to stopping the good offenses they faced this season. Their defense is a total joke. Alex Grinch sucked as coordinator at OU and he sucks at USC too.

As embarrassing as this post of yours.
Will be very interesting to see how he does out there.

As a Oklahoma fan, I can say from experience...with Lincoln Riley, you get what you pay for. Terrible defense, terrible special teams, no physicality, and great QB play that can mask it up to a certain point.
Utah did USC a favor...this embarrassing loss is nothing compared to what Georgia would've done to them.

Penn State? They've beaten nobody and lost to the only 2 good teams they played all year
Really terrific effort. Damn they should be in the playoffs.
Congrats Bill

Thanks, gtt, but I think the Rose Bowl is a better fit for them than the playoffs. Whittingham has done a great job with this team over the years, but it's a tall order to get great recruits to come to Utah. He doesn't have the horses that those elite programs have.

Pen state / Utah? Good game.
iirc, Richardson had an outstanding game, passing and running.

Smash-mouth physical football that is fun to watch. Still wondering how Utah lost to Florida. Forget how many mistakes they made in that opener.

Yes, that was the coming out party and they couldn't handle Richardson. But he's been inconsistent since then.
Caleb Williams seemed to be very limited after the injury; he just couldn’t move as well. The Utes had several untouched rushers getting to Williams.
Utes DL #77 is a big man. WR #10 Money Parks has eye opening speed.
The Utes TE’s were a force even with Kincaid playing hurt.
USC’s defense nearly had 30 missed tackles last night; just unbelievable.
USC LB #18 Eric Gentry has interesting size as a sophomore 6’6 while only 200lbs.
USC WR #2 Brenden Rice (Jerry’s son, also good size at 6’3 205 ) made some nice plays last night.
That team plays hard. First time seeing that QB. Tough son of a gun. Took that shot and all you got was a smile.

Unless I'm forgetting someone, Utah has not had a good QB since Alex Smith. Rising, while not great, is head and shoulders over what they've had

He couldn't seem to avoid the rush at all. Probably made a big difference in the game.
As good as he is, Kincaid was not Utah's best receiving TE. Brant Kuithe had been their top guy for a couple of years but tore his ACL, I believe, at the start of the season.

That is the only one I can think of. They were not in the PAC 10 then. You follow that program much closer than I do.

Good summary.
USC's D has been swiss cheese all year. We saw it the first time these two teams played in October. USC couldn't protect the lead. Hell, that was most of their games this year.
Utah kids are tough, and Whittingham is a terrific coach. Underrated.
Let's be honest. This was an unexpectedly good year for USC. Lots of roster turnover and Riley did a helluva job getting buy-in.

I don't know the names or the stats, but my impression was that USC brought in a bunch of good transfers this year
