Remember him calling the Divisional Playoff Game in Dallas in January of '08? I remember him laughing at one point during the telecast about the Giants not knowing what they were in for in the playoffs at Texas Stadium or something like that. One too many concussions it seems.

Truth is, If OBJ passes his tests and signs with us, he will instantly stretch the field and open up running room. I know there’s a lot of knowledge on this site that are down on DJ, OBJ will show us casual fans if DJ is our starting QB next season.

Agreed, but one thing for sure they’ll have to overpay for him, which puts them more in cap hell in the future. If money is the same, I think he comes here.

Dallas is much more hamstrung by the cap than the Giants. Remember, the Giants have a lot of money available next year. If the Giants go 2 years, say $10 mil GTD and say, roster bonus for next year worth $2M more, plus an extra $6-$8M in playing time and performance incentives...I think that's the kind of deal that can get done. I also think Daboll and Kafka are the kinds of coaches that will intrigue OBJ.

Dallas is a more complete team and has a better chance of getting another ring this year. But they also don't really need him. He's be second fiddle to Lamb, and then another dude competing for targets with Gallup, Schultz, etc.

New York is the only place that offers him the opportunity to regain his status as a #1.
Assuming the money is comparable, the best place for him to get a 2nd
Ira : 12/2/2022 5:46 pm : link
ring is Buffalo.
I could see
allstarjim : 12/2/2022 5:54 pm : link
Regaining his status as a superstar being the bigger motivation than a second ring.

Once you got your ring, doesn't the motivation change? I think it can... I don't believe he'd even meet with the Giants if he didn't win that ring last year. I think he'd already be a Cowboy.
Never was and never will be a fan of OBJ

100% agree. OBJ, Wan’Dale, Shep, 1st round pick, mid round pick, Slayton/Collin Johnson sounds like a solid plan.
i assume the cowboys rumors are true but they are confusing
Eric on Li : 12/2/2022 6:57 pm : link
in 2023 Dallas projects to have basically 0 cap space currently available.

michael gallup is in year 1 of a 5 year 57m contract.

ceedee lamb is entering the 4th year of his rookie deal then his 5YO will kick in which will be around 20m.

dalton schultz, tony pollard, leighton vander esch, connor mcgovern, terrance steele, anthony brown are all starters hitting FA (all have played more than 50% snaps this year).

where do they have any $ or need for taking the risk on OBJ? i assume they are planning to restructure money into the future but any dollar spent on him and not tony pollard or LVE seems like a mistake.

the nyg have 60m in cap space and literally 0 good wide receivers and it feels plenty risky.
I wonder if Dallas is interested
Spiciest Memelord : 12/2/2022 7:07 pm : link
as others pointed out he's not a huge need for them and their cap sit. Old Jerry Jones would definitely want OBJ, but I don't think that's the MO of recent Jerry Jones. Now we have Jones stooge Aikman pumping up the hype almost like Jones wants to play Schoen into signing him.

The sad thing is, many will actively root for him to fail if he does sign here.

Can we please stop with this dumb-ass BBI myth that die-hard GIANTS fans (which is what we ALL are) will actively root against a Giants player, just because they have at one point expressed a negative opinion about said player?

Giants fans root for the Giants to win. And that means rooting for any player that can help them do that.

Really? It would’ve been nice but, as Ed Lover said, “C’mon son.”

The Giants had to look interested; the new GM and coach have exceeded all expectations and, are in the playoff hunt. However, they showed they were willing to stand their ground and didn’t make any significant move, sans getting rid of dead weight for picks at the deadline.

The Giants were a just stop on his tour that benefited both parties.

is just trying to run up the price tag on the Giants for Odell to go there. They see the Giants are building something ahead of schedule & have the 2nd highest amount of cap space available going into 2023. If Jerruh's son is actually involved, I think his motivation would be to drive the price up to see if they can get the Giants to take a chunk out of that space for next year. If Odell goes to Dallas, he's the 3rd option at WR. He's a bigger "need" for the Giants considering they have almost nothing at WR now.

However...considering the mess that Jerruh has gotten himself into in the public eye, what he would love nothing more to do than get that out of the conversation. Signing Odell is quite the distraction to that. If Odell helps Dallas win the Super Bowl, even more so.

We'll see how it all plays out. If the Giants sign Odell, I have faith that Schoen and Brandon Brown, along with Daboll and Kafka have approved it from a football standpoint and what they are trying to build. If he signs with Dallas, oh well. Dallas just better win now because that window is open for them, but not sure for how long.

I just want the Giants to get 10 wins, get to the playoffs and maybe take a team down. They can do that with or without Odell.

All the talking heads here on DFW radio are saying that their "sources" are telling hem that if OBJ won't workout, the Cowgirls won't be signing OBJ. And from all reports, OBJ has no intentions of working out for any team before he signs.

Giants would probably be smart to follow their lead. If OBJ can't even workout at this point, doubtful he plays this year.

They can do that with or without Odell.

i see it the same way Matt. I could see Jerry doing it in the same way everyone knew Jerry wanted Johnny Manziel over Zack Martin, but it would be the opposite of what has worked in dallas over the last decade and bizarre given their cap outlays to gallup/lamb once he hits the 5yo.

I am all about getting OBJ at right price if healthy. If they sign him for any real number without seeing him workout, I would lose my mind.
Schoen will NOT sign

him just to make a splash. If he thinks he’s part of the solution going forward (health and contract), then it’s possible. He’s an open minded guy who leaves no stone unturned to improve the club. Beckham will have opportunities here he won’t in Dallas. Plus, I have a feeling he wants to finish where he started. Some of the fat has been steamed out of his personality. Being around friends like Shep and Barkley carry weight at his age.
So I assume OBJ
