Jordan Raanan @JordanRaanan · 32m Two things I think on OBJ situation from talking to people and observing: 1. Odell wants to be a Giant. The lure of coming to NY, making it a home for his family and winning in this city is enticing. There’s unfinished biz. It’s matter of if Giants want to pay him $$$ he wants. 2. The OBJ deal is more about next year than this year. Even Saquon Barkley has said it repeatedly, people need to be realistic. He’s coming back from serious knee injury. No training camp, no practice yet. It’s already December. Will take time to get in football shape. |

Anyone who thinks Odell Beckham rushing back from a second torn ACL should do a prove-it deal for the final few games of this season isn’t thinking logically. He’s better off waiting until next season to return rather than do that. |
Next year? Why? They can get a guy through free agency, trade or draft pick that doesn't have the baggage of being over 30 with 2 ACL tears.
The good news is, we have significant core pieces at core positions (OT, ED, S, DL); we have our RB if we want him, at least on a franchise tag. We can buy a LB. So going into the draft next year do we want to be boxed into a corner on two positions (WR, CB) or one. QB is the REAL wild card of course.
I think we sign Beckham because he wants to be here and we can use him. It would energize the fan base down the stretch whether we win or lose, and maybe we get him for some snaps in the playoffs if we make it.
He's not looking for that kind of deal. Read the OP.
Not sure why you would say that. It seems likely this is an accurate assessment of the situation.
This upcoming off-season the Giants will have plenty of options at wide receiver. It’s highly unlikely that any objective analysis of those options would suggest that Odell is the best.

Because people like to make absolute statements according to what they want not what’s reality

I think it has more to do with, "I hate (insert name of sportswriter) therefore, any opinion or prediction he makes is total BS and just a way to get clicks."
Years ago when OBJ was hurt in preseason (vs. Cleve.) Ranaan was the first to say that OBJ would miss the season opener. Many BBIers were quick to predict that Ranaan was only saying that "to get clicks".
Until course OBJ missed the season opener.
How do you get clicks when there is nothing to click?
If that's the case, I'm not sure he's a good fit here. Seems like a lot of NYG fans have nostalgia for guys like Beckham and Collins that don't seem to match up with the situation in 2022.
So the next question is, business, brand and endorsement wise, "How much does he need New York?" That to me, is the only factor that could have him end up here.
I get the "unfinished business side!" A lot of great HS players make their college team then quit because they feel like hired guns where as HS was plying with your brothers. I think OBJ has a part of him that wants to play with Shaquan and Shep, his original brothers in arms in the NFL.
Let's see where this unfolds! I have mixed feelings. ERIC HAS HIS RESERVATIONS AND THEY ARE LEGIT! He was a diva...YES. but I think this coaching staff is superior to Pat Shurmur's As far as relating to players and they might make it work. He will compete hard. Let's not forget he was real young 1st time around. Who knows. There is a lot more to X's and O's to this ....and sports is entertainment...lol
How many times are we going to fall into this trap before you guys realize it's not the right move.
I told BBI that the Nate Solder contract was stupid. The response was, "what choice do we have?"
Dumb thinking.
We also traded Toney who is a detriment to the Giants and contributing nothing to KC.
Wasn't the fallback in the draft Garrett Wilson?
I think there is something to this.
Seems like a lot of NYG fans have nostalgia for guys like Beckham and Collins that don't seem to match up with the situation in 2022.
Exactly. Throw JPP into that mix, too.
Too many romantics in this fanbase...
It would seem we overpay at times because of the tax.
There will be plenty of nice WR's in the draft and FA.
If he isn't here to help us this year....and seeing Barkley realistically needing two years to get his burst back after one ACL.....is OBJ the same OBJ after two ACL's and within one year?
Pass
Anybody paying him medium to big bucks with medium to big guarantees is a fool. If he doesn't want a prove it deal that only pays if he contributes, let him head elsewhere.
Initially, I read this as OBJ leaking this to soften the blow (and OBJ bashing from NYC) when he doesn’t sign here. “Oh, he really really wanted to be a Giant. He loves the city and fans. Giants didn’t want him as much as he wanted them”
But then I got to the rest of the “news”. And all of a sudden OBJ doesn’t want to help a team THIS YEAR. Sure he can help in the playoffs (tease…). But it’s more about next year when he will be do I ant again
That screams to me that his medical aren’t exactly pretty he’s lowering expectations of what he can really do to help a team, yet still dangling that carrot about next year.
Reading these tea leaves with what is known he isn’t medically as good as he had hoped to be right now, but still wants to sign a big contract without pissing off Giants fans. Just my opinion.
OBJ, his agent and many BBIers may be surprised to learn that the price for a 30 year old, one-time-star WR coming off 2 ACLs won't be that high.
If the Giants can sign OBJ to a reasonable, fair-market-value contract, I hope they get it done.
And OBJ has distraction written all over him. Let another team deal with him.
Please.

Remember all the OBJ distractions the Rams when through on their way to a Super bowl championship?
Yeah, me neither.
2024 giants cap space like 150 million
90 million of that may be taken up by extensions for jones, dex, saquon, at, x and love. Plus draft picks
If they want Odell, cash isn’t an issue. Part of his cash can be pushed to 2024 if needed. If nothing else. I can see him as a solid wr2 for 23-24. We barely have solid #4 wr at this point
Can also understand wanting to use cap space to build foundation. Little ahead of ourselves but we are still 4-6 starters short and need more depth
Kg gone next yr. Will be released asap
We need 3 wrs
Odell could be one of them. And draft 2 more
Sign SS for vet minimum
Hope Wan’Dale comes back 100% by Oct
A) it will change with teams needing massive cap space- Rams, BUCS, Eagles, Cowboys Seahawks etc all need cap space next year.
B) draft and or trade options will also be wide open..

My concern is that the Giants have a lot of cap space, but they also have some big-time players they will need to pay in the next couple years (Dex, AT, McKinney) and have huge open questions with how they handle Barkley and Jones. As much as I am enticed for a reunion it just doesn't feel like this is the right time to invest in a 30-year old WR coming off two ACL repairs. Everything I read says that OBJ will go where he is paid the most, but unless that is <$11/year I don't see how this would be a wise investment with this roster.

Obj isn’t getting more than 11mil per year, that’d be crazy.
If he’s medically all right, Im sure he’ll contribute in 2022… we have WRs coming off the practice squad and starting every week.
Jerry Jones said a week or two ago that he didn't know if Beckham could even pass a physical.
