Jordan Raanan @JordanRaanan · 32m Two things I think on OBJ situation from talking to people and observing: 1. Odell wants to be a Giant. The lure of coming to NY, making it a home for his family and winning in this city is enticing. There’s unfinished biz. It’s matter of if Giants want to pay him $$$ he wants. 2. The OBJ deal is more about next year than this year. Even Saquon Barkley has said it repeatedly, people need to be realistic. He’s coming back from serious knee injury. No training camp, no practice yet. It’s already December. Will take time to get in football shape. |

Anyone who thinks Odell Beckham rushing back from a second torn ACL should do a prove-it deal for the final few games of this season isn’t thinking logically. He’s better off waiting until next season to return rather than do that. |
The Giants future receivers are somewhere buried in the next 2 draft classes. Go find them.
BOTH WERE great players ...
BOTH ARE BROKEN ....
BOTH ARE expensive ...
Golladay is quiet; OBJ has a mouth ...
The Giants need to move on from BOTH
Looking at NYG realistically, DJ8 might actually walk and we'd have TT as QB or a rookie. Not ideally, situation and I know $$$ play a factor. We should be getting younger not older. As other have noted we have one highly paid WR who is not living up to the stupid contract that was offered him.
Yes. I like a good Hollywood ending to stories, but not in this case. Pass and move onto the draft. It is very unlikely he is adding anything to the team this year. Long to the future and the long term viability of the team.

the last thing this team needs under this new regime is distractions.
And OBJ has distraction written all over him. Let another team deal with him.
Please.
Remember all the OBJ distractions the Rams when through on their way to a Super bowl championship?
Yeah, me neither.
Are you comfortable that that wasn't the exception rather than the rule?
that's it.
anything in 2022 is gravy.
clearly they have some level of interest, which is unlikely to be based on anything he can do in 2022, and clearly they should be aware of what anderson and ranaan have now reported that OBJ is looking for a place he can play for multiple seasons.
so what is their level of multi-year interest? what is a reasonable projected multi-year value for OBJ?
is it similar to the 11.5m AAV Gallup got last offseason while rehabbing his ACL (term adjusted for age)?
It is highly likely that the Giants will draft a WR on either day one or day two and will add more receiving talent on day three.
It would be nice to have a seasoned professional in the room mentoring the rookies and showing them how an NFL wideout prepares for game day.

Nothing he has ever done would suggest that OBJ is a leader or a good mentor. Did you not follow the lead up to the playoff game with the Packers? That was his opportunity to lead. Basically, he led the tank job. Hiring OBJ is only about his on-field performance. There is no other value to him.
in March, OBJ would be able to show whether he's still got any legs. Right now, IF he's not working out, it's a guessing game whether OBJ can still run and cut.
For a minimal contract, it might be worth a risk.
Right away becomes the best receiver the Giants have had since, well since himself.

he's not likely to workout in march either. he's going to under go a physical and medical review like any other FA.
that's the case with almost all free agents. in the nfl a bunch of guys sign in the middle of rehabs. bud dupree a few years ago in TEN. gallup extended last offseason in the middle of a rehab. the teams review the MRIs and medical info they get and rarely get veterans to work out for them.
mike mccarthy was asked the workout question re obj and here was what he said:
obviously none of us have the info and im sure even schoen like mccarthy wants to gather as much info as he can in the process.
my point is that they probably have about the same info they would have in march 2023 and that's how they need to look at the decision to add him. presumably they have, and still have interest or else why bother going through the dog and pony show?
Jerry Jones said a week or two ago that he didn't know if Beckham could even pass a physical.

Have you seen the rest of free agent wide receiver class? It’s awful!
How many times are we going to fall into this trap before you guys realize it's not the right move.
I told BBI that the Nate Solder contract was stupid. The response was, "what choice do we have?"
Dumb thinking.
Unbelievable, isn't it? Incredible how some on here on this thread haven't learned about Solder. Dealing for mediocrity while overpaying isn't smart. Mediocrity does absolutely nothing for this team by the time this guy is ready.
And after we sign him. and then when it doesn't work out, these same posters that wanted him so bad will make the same dumb comments that were made after the Solder failure that they knew it was dumb but the Giants HAD to do it.
Is this a trick question?

Seems like a lot of NYG fans have nostalgia for guys like Beckham and Collins that don't seem to match up with the situation in 2022.
Exactly. Throw JPP into that mix, too.
Too many romantics in this fanbase...

Everyone is assuming his knee will pass a physical. What if it doesn't?
