Ridiculous

he was fouled like five different ways and nothing was called
Because of his often overbearing strength advantage of an opponent he seems to get far too many non-calls when there is obvious contact that would usually result in a foul.
I agree he is playing badly right now but it's like he's forgotten things from Basketball 101. I think he can play much better but his mind isn't right, right now. I think sitting him for a couple of games might be a good idea. My guess is he's mentally trying to justify the new contract but he just has to get that out of his head and let the game come back to him.
Wish we just lost so we could have gotten a jumpstart on a new coach and modern basketball
Why even bother watching if you feel that way?
Did you still watch the giants with judge as a coach. I’m a fan of the Knicks but thibs and this regime are not good and need to be axed. Sooner that happens. The better for this franchise.

As did I. Hence me asking that. I watched the game cause I’m still a fan. But the right move for this team is to Pivot to tanking and getting rid of thibs.
Just because I said I wish we lost doesn’t mean I didn’t watch. I tune into all giants and Knicks games. But I am not gonna say I will root for my team
To win when I don’t think it benefits them
Long term. Especially when it comes to basketball
I never root for any of the teams I follow to lose, Giants and Knicks included.
And full disclosure, I did skip some of the Judge-coached Giants games. But I didn't root for them to lose.
What was interesting about tonight is that it was a real Thibs-style win where the team played very good defense.
Also I would never root for the Knicks to lose at the Garden. I took my kids to many Knicks games at the Garden and you want everyone going home happy.
Impressive to dig in on a back to back to beat a good time given their current slide. You guys kill him but that’s a sign of a really good coach which Thibs is.
Sounds weird to say it because he didn’t shoot well tonight but man would Mitchell been perfect for this Knicks team. Guy can truly ball and swapping him for RJ ( along with whatever else it took) gives this Knicks team a whole different future.
Brunson was clutch down the stretch.
Lastly, the weirdest and most frequent travel calls I’ve ever seen in an nba game.
with Mcbride over Rose, i know Deuce needs to get better shooting but the defense coming off the bench in the backcourt changes the dynamic of this team..
Especially if Dallas is really interested.
I am okay with moving Quickley,Cam, Hartenstein, and Fournier too, I don't see any scenario where they can move Randle. Get as many picks and dead contracts as possible now and at the deadline.
It isn't a tank because they are not even close to essential to this team especially with a 9 man rotation.

I was just flipping through channels and saw the Westchester Knicks are on so I watched a few minutes and realized - Deuce is playing for Westchester tonight. So is Sims. I guess it's nearby and it gets them minutes....
he just has to figure out his role, its hard for a guy to play 1 out 5 games and expect anything offensively..
At WVU he ran the show, he was a good offensive player and obviously a grest defensive player, i think in the NBA he is Marcus Smart..Tough defender and 3 point shooter with the occasional drive to the basket and setting up teammates..
He is not a star by any means but on a good team he can be a really useful player..
I don't care how good his defense supposedly is - he's got to show some minimal level of competence offensively before I think he's an NBA player.
Grimes is a 41% shooter in 60 games and 27% from 3 this year, everyone has him as an future all-star.
Knicks fans always over value our own players.
I am not sold on any of our young players at this point.
Quickley, Grimes, Toppin, Deuce have shown very little overall could be many reasons why usage, playtime etc but there is not much value there at this point
and this organization is the fact that these young players are not the focal point, not because they are stars but because they all have talent and they can either help this team or another team in a trade but we dont get to see that..
Any other organization that has ok vets would be leaning into their youth but here we are and we are getting Randle playing entire quarters again, Rose getting 12 to 14 minutes that could be going to mcbride, Cam out of the rotation..

Since “everyone” has said Grimes is a future All Star, I’m assuming you can provide a ton of links to show us all where everyone has said this? I can’t find any links to threads where this has been the case so maybe you can help?

The Knicks franchise seems to value Grimes, as did Utah and its HOF executive. Not sure why Knicks fans always get blamed.
Fans always get the blame. The media does this all the time too. They will constantly criticize a player when he’s struggling and then as soon as he starts playing better they throw out the ole “and fans wanted to run this guy out of town!”.
but if you take a step back and look at the record, it's pretty much in line with what was expected out of this team. About .500, maybe a little under for the year. They lack talent, but have enough to compete and beat against the dregs of the league.
The alarming thing, and the reason for the roller coaster, is the way we've lost a couple of these games. The Atlanta game, the Mav's game are just tough looks for the coach and the FO that assembled this hodge podge of players.
We have a lot of players that are middle of the rotation guys. I love that they want to put together a winning roster, but in this league, you need stars. The last team that won without one was a Pistons team a bajillion years ago.
This FO has either been unwilling or unable to put together that big swing for a player that can be a championship piece. The clock is ticking though, so I expect them to be active at the trade deadline.
I don't know that anyone predicted Grimes as an All-Star
But IMO they did seem to assume he'd be a good player before he showed much of anything.
Now, I'm fine with the viewpoint that the Knicks aren't going anywhere anyway and they'd be better off giving the young guys the bulk of the playing time to see if any of them are worth anything. I still think McBride probably is an end of the bench guy, at best.

IQ is by far the best of the young player bunch. He actually plays OK on both ends of the court and maybe better than OK, defensively. Grimes is good on D too.

Macri seems to think they're stalling til the trade market unofficially opens on Dec. 15 (when guys signed last summer can be dealt) - give Thibs a talent upgrade by the deadline and see if the team responds.

I mean, they needed to make a consolidation trade this offseason, but they got rid of Burks and Noel and just gave their positions to IHart and Brunson. If they make some trades, they need to shorten the roster. If not, we're still going to be hearing about players complaining about playing time and being benched all throughout the season.

I am not saying they are not good players but it's all projections and hope at this point.
Grimes has been getting starter minutes and actually got 40 minutes vs the Cavs.(led the team)
His offensive game has not been there. 2 for 8 and 0-4 from 3 with 4 turnovers. You can't get that production from your starting 2 guard.
Had zero fun reading Jonathan Givony’s rookie rankings article

Shouldn't say by far that was incorrect. But he's the best of the bunch in my view with RJB a close second. Grimes has a chance to be better than any of the younger guards.
RE: Had zero fun reading Jonathan Givony’s rookie rankings article
and seeing AJ Griffin at #4 and Jalen Duren at #8.
Neither would be playing on this team and the only reason Griffin is playing is because Atlanta has injuries
AJ Griffin wouldn’t be playing on this team because they couldn’t possibly spare time from RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish’s combined 29% shooting from the 3 point line?

that is short sighted thinking. It helps to have a pool of attractive young players on your roster from which you can pull together a trade offer. And Duren is barely 19. Nobody knows what he's going to be.
"Rose and Reddish out.
Tom Thibodeau announced he’s benching Derrick Rose and Cam Reddish as he looks to give Quentin Grimes and Deuce McBride more minutes instead."
Front office needs to do the right thing and move these guys, sad that the guys benched were sign and/or traded for when the kids were sitting on the bench.
36 million benched what a waste
There's just no reason to play rose right now in 2022. Roster is too heavy.
Cam, sure but Deuce should play as well as toppin and quickley. Drafting these guys and not playing them makes you look like a directionless organization.

They are a directionless organization. It’s pretty apparent and has been for some time this front office has no clue what they are doing.
When the guys they were benched for have been here the whole time.
Ridiculous how this front office is so incompetent and now they will try and move them and have to attach picks to get them off the team .
leauge like he's Jordan and Magic rolled into one, but he's shown little offense up here.
I like Grimes, he SHOULD get more minutes. Rose needed to be traded a year ago. Reddish I'am ambivalent about.
It's frustrating to see them squander picks, squander player they exchange for a pick, what's next just forfeit picks? Watch them turn the three 1st round picks into two 2nd round picks in next year's draft.
This year has been an absolute abomination with the uninspiring record and the young players taking a step back. Fuck Thibs.

His offense is sporadic in the NBA because his minutes are sporadic and his role is basically 3 and d defender..Of course his stats are going to be different compared to the g league where he is the best player..
When has this front office ever traded a 1st for a future 2nd? never, you could argue their trades have actually been pretty good..
And who has regressed? quickley's defense and rebounding has been fantastic and his offense is getting better each game..
Toppin is a 40% 3 ppint shooter, his rebounding is improving and he is still jump oit of the gym..
Grimes has become a great finisher and fantastic passer, 2 things scouts said he sucked at in college..
Sims when given minutes is a freak athlete and has contributed, for the 58th pick he is oretty good..
you want to complain the front office hasnt made the big move? thats fine but their drafting and getting draft picks has been rpetty good..
Where they have screwed up is bringing in vets

Grimes has showed that in summer league not in the NBA. He has shown nothing this season his offensive numbers are horrible.
You think the Cam trade was a good one?
The draft day trades were good?
We gave away players and picks for cap space because they handed out bad contracts.
So yes they hit on roll players late in the first round.
Toppin is not what you want from a 9th pick in season 3. He is getting 15 minutes a game.
Can they be better if managed better I think so but that a hypothetical not reality right now.
You are getting nothing back for Rose, Cam, and Fournier it will probably cost us to get them off the roster.

Grimes hasnt shown he can get to the rim and dish? he has been doing it ever since he has come back, he has struggled from 3..
the cam trade was a bad one? they traded a trash player and a 1st that will never convey until it becomes 2 seconds..
What picks did they give away? they trade a 1st for 3 future 1sts and used 2nds to get rid of Burks and Noel, they gave uo nothing to get rid of those 2..
They haven't blown any picks but you can't tell me they've
maximized all of their picks either. They've yet to hit it big in the drafts despite opportunities to do so.
I like Quickley but with Brunson here he's a bit redundant. He's still the way he was 2 years ago, a good spark plug off the bench when he is on, nothing more.
I liked the Toppin pick, one of a few on this site. Thanks to Thibs he's a shadow of his late 2021 finish. How has he not regressed?
Grimes is always hurt. Looking at his prep clips he's a playmaker. Limited by his lack of top shelf athleticism he will need to hit jumpers to be a good offensive player in this league. I wish Thibs would give him the green light like he does RJ and Randle.
Just even handling the ball is an adventure for McBride. Perhaps he'll gain more confidence and comfort with playing time, but I don't see how he'll get it with how Thibs handles the roster.
The bottom line is, they need to use the picks to accumualte good players. It's beyond frustrating how the youngsters, on the roster or potentially, can't get more time on this middling team with limited talent.
Knicks are active in trade talks, Quickley, Rose, Cam and Fournier are the 4 main players being discussed..
Says Knicks are not desperate to trade Fournier and are willing to take on a bad contract if an asset comes back..Willnot attach firsts jist to get rid of him..
Not a lot of suitors for Cam or Rose, maybe closer to the deadline..
Quickley will only be dealt if they get a 1st round pick back or in a bigger deal
‘They also have communicated that they are willing to attach Quickley or Reddish to Fournier to make a trade work, league sources said.’
@TheAthletic
If they attach quickley move Fournier this entire front office needs to go immediately.
It would be once again using valuable pieces to dump horrendous contracts. This regime should not be defended. The moves they have made are awful and this would be just another one
I'm guessing they think they can get his production for less, or draft someone to get another piece on a rookie scale deal. It's a bad look. He's been probably their most successful draft pick, if he's flipped for a late 1st, it feels like it was all for nothing.
Outside of Brunson, this FO has really really really botched free agency. They've blocked playing time of their young players by signing vets who are now getting benched, who also didn't help this team win.
Basically no one wants our trash.
-Rose is washed.
-Cam will bring back nothing.
-Fournier has interest but we won't add assets
-Quickley has interest but looks more like a top 20 restricted pick or lumped in to take the above.

There's really no rationalizing any of it. So brutal being a fan of this team.
Thibs will be here unless they completely tank.
I don't think Rose is going anywhere for at least this year so hopefully he can pull of some miracle trades after December 15th.
Problem is every smart GM knows he needs to move off Rose and Fournier, they are going to hold his feet to the fire.
Hasn’t the whole agent to GM thing been disproved?

I've seen real messes. This isn't one of those situations by any means.
The front office inherited a bad roster and they have turned it into a mediocre roster. They haven't mortgaged the future at all and they really don't have any deadly contracts despite some of you thinking otherwise, not to mention it's not like there is a player to be signed right now that we can't sign due to the cap
They have held serve. They haven't been great by any means and they haven't made the HR move but Brunson was a good one.
Boring to be sure. But not a mess. The mid to late 2000s were a mess.
and so Knicks that as this franchise finally places itself into rare air where they have financial room and picks and even some young chip/talents to trade, there is such little super star player movement and availability. We had ONE guy basically, Mitchell, and that fell through and he wasn't exactly the perfect (legendary) player to go all in on.
I hate to be negative but sometimes I just wonder if this franchise is just doomed to lose forever and ever. You can't even go back and use hindsight to get this team to perennial 58 win status without really digging and searching. Where was that move? Mitchell? We aint getting to elite status on that move, even paired with Brunson.
We never pick high enough. We never sign that perfect FA. We always just miss. Every other franchise I root for carries that good karma even during the worst of times. The Knicks don't.

Also I would never root for the Knicks to lose at the Garden. I took my kids to many Knicks games at the Garden and you want everyone going home happy.
Why is Cam out? He's not on the injury list. He seemed to be playing well for a while there, including defense. Just curious if anyone knows.
Their opponent's EFG% also drops from 55.4% to 47.3% with Randle on the bench
I am okay with moving Quickley,Cam, Hartenstein, and Fournier too, I don't see any scenario where they can move Randle. Get as many picks and dead contracts as possible now and at the deadline.
It isn't a tank because they are not even close to essential to this team especially with a 9 man rotation.
I was just flipping through channels and saw the Westchester Knicks are on so I watched a few minutes and realized - Deuce is playing for Westchester tonight. So is Sims. I guess it's nearby and it gets them minutes....
I could see Grimes and Deuce on Trae.
I could see Grimes and Deuce on Trae.
Isn't Tre injured?
Finally caught a half last night, man has RJ regressed. He’s ball stopper and ball hog like Randle now.

actually a pretty big game for this early in the season. Would be nice to pick up a game on them. Looks like Collins and Hunter may be out.

He's not on their current injury report, so I don't think so.
Knicks fans always over value our own players.
The Knicks franchise seems to value Grimes, as did Utah and its HOF executive. Not sure why Knicks fans always get blamed.
Any other organization that has ok vets would be leaning into their youth but here we are and we are getting Randle playing entire quarters again, Rose getting 12 to 14 minutes that could be going to mcbride, Cam out of the rotation..
Quote:
I don't care how good his defense supposedly is - he's got to show some minimal level of competence offensively before I think he's an NBA player.

Since “everyone” has said Grimes is a future All Star, I’m assuming you can provide a ton of links to show us all where everyone has said this? I can’t find any links to threads where this has been the case so maybe you can help?

Fans always get the blame. The media does this all the time too. They will constantly criticize a player when he’s struggling and then as soon as he starts playing better they throw out the ole “and fans wanted to run this guy out of town!”.

Makes sense, seems like thats what the rest of the league does as well

I am not saying they are not good players but it's all projections and hope at this point.
Grimes has been getting starter minutes and actually got 40 minutes vs the Cavs.(led the team)
His offensive game has not been there. 2 for 8 and 0-4 from 3 with 4 turnovers. You can't get that production from your starting 2 guard.

Shouldn't say by far that was incorrect. But he's the best of the bunch in my view with RJB a close second. Grimes has a chance to be better than any of the younger guards.
Neither would be playing on this team and the only reason Griffin is playing is because Atlanta has injuries

and seeing AJ Griffin at #4 and Jalen Duren at #8.

Where did you hear this?

Bondy reported, Rose himself confirmed.
Cam, sure but Deuce should play as well as toppin and quickley. Drafting these guys and not playing them makes you look like a directionless organization.

They are a directionless organization. It’s pretty apparent and has been for some time this front office has no clue what they are doing.
Ridiculous how this front office is so incompetent and now they will try and move them and have to attach picks to get them off the team .

It was very good their first offseason but then doubled down on their 4th seed year and kvercompensated on the offensive end with Kemba and Fournier..
I am happy they are moving away from Rose and Fournier in the rotation..

@TheAthletic
If they attach quickley move Fournier this entire front office needs to go immediately.
It would be once again using valuable pieces to dump horrendous contracts. This regime should not be defended. The moves they have made are awful and this would be just another one
Outside of Brunson, this FO has really really really botched free agency. They've blocked playing time of their young players by signing vets who are now getting benched, who also didn't help this team win.
-Rose is washed.
-Cam will bring back nothing.
-Fournier has interest but we won't add assets
-Quickley has interest but looks more like a top 20 restricted pick or lumped in to take the above.
What a mess this FO has created.

There's really no rationalizing any of it. So brutal being a fan of this team.
Not someone who decides one day that Evan Fournier has gone from Starter to Shit, nothing in between.
I am still giving him until the deadline
I don't think Rose is going anywhere for at least this year so hopefully he can pull of some miracle trades after December 15th.
Problem is every smart GM knows he needs to move off Rose and Fournier, they are going to hold his feet to the fire.
